Things to do in Gwithian

Surfing

With great surf all year round, it's no wonder it's a popular surf spot with both locals and visitors. Perfect for beginners and advanced surfers, Gwithian is an ideal place to learn and progress. With a local Surf school operating from here, first timers will be up and riding in no time.

Beaches

Gwithian Towans, Hayle Towans and Godrevy offer three miles of golden sands and the most dramatic coastline stretching across to St Ives Bay. At low tide, with such a vast amount of sand, there is plenty of room for everyone – even horses getting their daily exercise. There are large areas of rock pools and intriguing caves which are great for kids to explore. Visit in the evening and you may be treated to a stunning sunset. Read more about Gwithian Towans and other beaches in the area on our blog. It's also worth visiting the rugged cliffs at Hell's Mouth, which is just a 5 minute drive away, where you can park your car for free and enjoy a delicious cream tea in the cafe.

Foraging

Foraging is popular in Cornwall, and Gwithian Towans offers an ideal place to give it a go. Foraging lessons are available, during which you'll discover everything from how to make seaweed crisps, to picking edible flowers. It's certain to be a fun day out for the whole family. Check out our blog post on Wild Food Walks in Cornwall to find out more.

St Gothian Nature Reserve

What was once a commercial sand quarry, this site has since been declared as a nature reserve. The habitat has been improved with the addition of a large pool and other smaller pools which have been fenced off, creating a safe place for wildfowl and waders. Perfect for bird watching. Dog walkers are asked to keep dogs on a lead so as to not disturb the wildlife.

Walking

From Gwithian, you can walk the South West Coast Path all the way to St Ives, and experience some beautiful scenery along the way. Pass through Hayle and Lelant before finally arriving at St Ives Harbour. The walk takes approximately 6 hours so be sure to bring supplies!

Thanks for a lovely holiday. Sarah was amazing for the booking process accommodating a last minute booking which met all of our requests! She was super efficient and friendly - I would definitely trust her to organise our holiday again! The house was spotless spacious and very comfortable

Amazing house, all brand new, perfect family or friends get away so much space to spread out and walking distance to the beach!

Firstly, thank you all so much for sorting our accommodation so quickly, it was literally last minute and saved us from a potential holiday disaster, after our original accommodation turned out to be unsuitable.

We were so excited when we arrived at Bon Fortuna. The house is stunning - modern and spacious and everything you need from a holiday home. The kitchen is amazingly well equipped- so much more than in my own kitchen at home ?? - and a great place for preparing family meals where you can all be together. The only thing that seemed to be missing, was a brush and dustpan and brush - this would be useful.

The hot tub is fab and gives a real sense of luxury. Some loungers or comfy garden chairs would be handy, as the outside space is really good and it would be nice to relax there for an afternoon.

Bedrooms are all very spacious, with comfy beds and good bathrooms and plenty of room for clothes and belongings. The stairs are a real feature of the house, but just be aware if you have little ones as they are quite open and all wood/glass.

Location wise, the house is fantastic. A 10 minute walk in one direction leads to Sandy Acres beach (be warned, access to the beach is VERY steep via the dunes - much easier on the way there than the way back!) and 10/15 minutes in the other direction takes you in to Hayle, with lots of eating/drinking options.

We would definitely recommend Bon Fortuna for a family or large group holiday and we will (hopefully) be back soon!
