Lending a claw: Aspects Holidays become Corporate Sponsors for The National Lobster Hatchery!

We are excited to announce our partnership with The National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow, a marine conservation, research, and education charity specifically supporting The European Lobster. The species is the most valuable fish caught in the UK, therefore providing a vital source of jobs and income to local coastal communities.

As part of becoming Corporate Sponsors, we donated £1200 and the team here at Aspects was able to name 100 baby lobsters and track their future movements when released. We had a variety of different names including Itchy, Scratchy, Clawdia and even some popstars including Kendrick Lamar and Britney Spears!

Releasing baby lobsters at Porthpean beach

On a sunny April day, the team released their 3-month-old lobsters at Porthpean beach, setting over 200 little crustaceans free to roam in the Cornish Ocean! We released the lobsters into rockpools at low tide using test tubes, as they are still just 1cm in length at this point, they will end up in the sea as the tide comes back in. The lobsters must be 5 – 15 years old before the local fishermen are allowed to catch them, and if they catch any females with eggs, they must put them back in the sea. We hope all the lobsters go on to live happy and fulfilling lives!

Members of the public are free to join on the release days, and it is a great activity for the little ones! You can see all the upcoming events here.
