Aspects Holidays helps transform a deserted island into a forest school with the Children's Sailing Trust!

In our efforts to give back to the community, as a company we take part in various volunteering days, whether that be beach cleans or helping out local charities, we find these days extremely rewarding for our staff and those we are supporting.

When the opportunity to help out local charity Children’s Sailing Trust arose, an overwhelming number of staff wanted to get involved. The Children’s Sailing Trust supports children through their schools or home education groups through sailing and water activities, which have a positive impact on both physical and mental health.

One of the main Children’s Sailing Trust centres is Trevassack Lake, located on the Lizard Peninsula, which is dedicated to bringing Watersports and sailing activities to anyone and everyone, regardless of age, ability, disability or experience.

On arrival at Trevassack Lake, our volunteers were met with an overgrown island in need of a transformation into a forestry school. They boarded a boat to clear pathways through the gorse. Other tasks included weeding along the entry to the incredible man-made beach and spreading topsoil.

Here is what some of the volunteers had to say about the experience:

“Superb day working within the community and for such an awesome cause.  It was brilliant to see the result of the fruits of our labour and work in the sunshine in a beautiful location. I am super proud of what we achieved and would love to do it all again!”

"It was such an amazing day volunteering at Trevassack Lake. Meeting and chatting with the regular volunteers and members of staff there was hugely eye-opening as to the importance of days such as this. The biggest reward from the day was seeing some students using and enjoying the lake, all made possible because of the efforts of Trevassack and volunteers. Plus, what a great way to enjoy some fresh air and time away from the desk!"

We were also treated to a lovely lunch at the lakeside café, a tasty treat after all the hard work! Some of our brave volunteers even took a refreshing dip in the lake afterwards!

The team at the Trust were thrilled, saying “Wow, what a fabulous achievement by everyone – the Children’s Sailing Trust team are truly delighted with the outcome of today and we are so grateful for your support and incredibly hard graft!”
