We were supposed to stay here 12-19 August, however, on our return to the cottage on the evening of 13th august we realised the whole cottage was infested with fleas. As aspects were closed for the weekend we did a thorough clean, which clearly had not been done prior to our arrival, and hung all rugs and soft furnishings outside. We still got bitten to death as they were absolutely everywhere, including the beds. We reported this as soon as Aspects office opened on the Monday and they managed to find us other accommodation that afternoon. Their customer service and assistance was great, but I would not recommend using this cottage.

We were so sorry that this issue occurred. Unfortunately, your report of there being fleas at the property was received a day before a previous guest reported this issue in their review. Sadly, this meant that we were not aware that there may be an issue there that would impact your stay. Had we been aware that there was an ongoing issue, we would have had pest control in sooner. This was immediately addressed with a move to an alternative property, and pest control attending several times through the rest of the week to apply treatments and confirm that there was no further activity. The owners are now no longer accepting pets on bookings, except for honouring the handful of bookings that are already in place that have pets included, as they would not wish for their guests to have a similar experience to this in future. We are sorry that this would put you off returning to this property as the owners have not had this issue there before and would hope that it is not something that would happen again following the changes made. Well designed, clean, quirky and reasonably convenient holiday property. Easy to maintain and mostly well equipped given how compact the property is. Parking was tricky but not impossible. Great base for going to the beaches in St Ives without the hassle of driving. Squeezing a young family of four in was a bit challenging but the price was very reasonable indeed. Would definitely recommend, especially if you plan to be out and about for the most part and want a convenient base.

We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time at 1 Sandows Lane, and that you managed to find parking, which is unfortunately at a premium in St Ives. For properties without parking, it is worth looking into parking options before your stay on the local council website and looking into private parking availability, particularly for peak weeks. Although some may find it compact, compared to what they may be used to; with a double and king bed, a dining table with 4 seats and a 3 seater sofa with separate accent chair, there are suitable seating and sleeping arrangements for full occupancy and we hope that you agreed that it provides a great hub for families to relax after a long day exploring St Ives and everything it has to offer. Great location with a short walk to Porthmeor via back roads or Harbour/Porthminster via main road. Lack of parking didn’t really bother us and we paid to park at rugby club for the week. However, property not fulfilling the potential it has to make most of character. It felt tired and in need of sympathetic modernisation, particularly in the kitchen and dining area. Cleanliness was poor and we had a pest problem.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the great location of this property. It is great for those who want to be close to it all, but not right in the heart of all the hustle and bustle. We try to offer a wide range of properties that will suit the extremely varied tastes, requirements, and budgets of individuals. Being quite a characterful cottage within the old fishing town of St Ives, the owners have tried to maintain a type of décor that is sympathetic to its roots rather than go for something too modern, so we try to show as best as we can within the photos. It had all been maintained to the expected standards when we last inspected it, but after a busy start to the season, properties will experience wear, so we have passed on your comments to the owner and we will check everything on the next inspection and discuss any areas that would benefit addressing, with the property owners. We were so sorry to hear of your report of cleaning concerns and fleas. Had we been made aware at the time of your stay, we would have had the housekeeper sent straight back, and pest control attend immediately, so that you did not have to continue with the issue for the duration of your stay. With this being a pet friendly property at the time of your stay, the property owners had preventative measures in place to minimise the risk of something like this, but it can never be 100% guaranteed to prevent it if a previous guest's pet has brought along some unwelcome guests! Fortunately, with preventative measures in place, it is not often that we get reports of such issues and as soon as we do, we organise with the owners, getting treatment of the property immediately. Treatment was applied straight after your report, and we have since had pest control over to carry out additional treatments and confirm that there is no further activity. In addition to this, the owners of 1 Sandows Lane will no longer be accepting pets on bookings, except for honouring the handful of bookings that are already in place that have pets included, as they would not wish for their guests to have a similar experience to this in future. We are so sorry that you experienced this while you were here. Tanya, Customer Services

We really enjoyed our stay at 1 Sandows Lane, although we were very unlucky with the weather. The location was perfect and beds were super comfy. Aspect holidays were very accommodating when we asked for a later check out. One negative was the neighbour next door, she kept knocking at our door drunk and woke our baby up and frightened my mum who was in the cottage at the time on her own. Also wouldn’t say it was very child friendly but is certainly small and perfectly formed. We would probably book to stay at a complex next time due to the unpredictable weather.

We are glad that you enjoyed this property and found it nice and comfortvble. It certainly has a lot of character and charm! We were sorry to hear about this incident with a neighbour though. That is certainly not the norm, and we are sorry if that was a bit off-putting for you. Tanya, Customer Services

Cosy, comfortable little cottage with a tiny but sunny courtyard. Ideal for a couple. A bit of a walk up from the town, but not as long or as steep as I had expected.

We had a lovely stay at 1 Sandows Lane; the welcome bag and card was a lovely touch. The cottage had everything we needed and was perfect for the two of us plus 1 dog. We would definitely stay there again.

Lovely homely cottage, enjoyed our stay very much Excellent use of space, comfortable beds Would have liked more days at the cottage. Many Thanks

This is a clean, comfortable, well equipped cottage in a quiet area. (Beds very comfy). We would certainly stay there again. Just be aware there is a short climb from the harbour back up to the cottage and there is no parking outside the cottage you have to park in a car park.

Had a lovely time at 1 Sandows Ln. The cottage is a lovely down hill walk in to town but the walk back can be quite strenuous (I was 7 months pregnant at the time haha!). Considering the price of the cottage and location I would say it was good value for money. We stayed as 4 adults, a 2yr old and a dog and we had enough space. The beds were comfortable and the amenities were exactly has described.

Lovely little cottage with comfy beds in a great location. Good value for money for St Ives!!

Maritime and coastal feel to a small fisherman's type cottage with excellent use of space. Spacious walk in shower and no expense spared with the cooker! Generous amount of glassware and plates etc. Nice touch with the DVD's. Warm feel and cosy , especially with the open stove fire. Perfect for couples! Andy Mercer

Lovely cosy cottage! We had a great time...
Only down side is bathroom/toilet down stairs so a few visits in the night.

Thanks for your feedback and we are glad to hear that you had such a great time. The layout may not work for everyone, with the bathroom downstairs and bedrooms upstairs, so we try to make this as clear as we can within the property description so that guests know what to expect. We hope that it was what you had imagined and that it suited all members of your party. Thanks again for the helpful comments and we hope to see you back soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Aspects were brilliant and would use them again.

Quiet location, cottage well equipped and a good base for St Ives and surrounding area.

Great little cottage within a 15 minutes walk of porthminster beach (our favourite) and yet again so easy to book with aspects holidays, would highly recommend booking with this company as we certainly will be doing again!

Excellent property, very clean, comfortable beds and all the equipment in good condition. Only downside for my visit was not being able to park outside the property and quite a climb up a hill from town which meant we did not go out into town in the evening.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at 1 Sandows Lane. Unfortunately parking is in high demand within St Ives, with many properties (like 1 Sandows Lane) not having this facility, so it can mean a bit of a walk to a car park and a 10-15 minute walk into town or to the beaches, which is on a gradual incline on the way back to the property at the end of the day. We are glad that you agreed though, that this was well worth it for what 1 Sandows Lane offers. Tanya, Customer Services

A lovely stay at 1 Sandows Lane with my mum and 2 dogs. Very cosy and well equipped. Comfortable beds and a great location not to long walk from the beaches and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again!

Very cosy, but wood not supplied!

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your comments, and we are delighted to hear that you liked 1 Sandows Lane, and found it warm and cosy. We are very sorry to hear that you did not have a supply of wood to start off your holiday there. The owner usually supplies some bits to get you started, which were obviously overlooked on this occasion. Had we been aware, we would have happily organised some straight away for you; we are very sorry that we did not have this opportunity. We hope that you managed to find some quickly enough so that you could enjoy the wood burner, and hope that you had a fantastic time here in St Ives. Tanya, Customer Services

Very cosy feel to the cottage, lovely quiet location, would certainly book again.

Lovely cottage for a couple of two dogs. Location fantastic to St Ives Town.

Lovely accommodation, super location. Would consider booking this property again. Thank you Aspect Holidays

Arrived for a week's stay with my mum, and we were delighted to find the cottage even better than expected from the photos. It's small, but beautifully formed, with an ingenious use of space, making it perfect for us, or a couple/small family.

The decor is lovely, with art work scattered throughout, giving it that personal touch. The kitchen is really well equipped, even though we attempted nothing more ambitious than breakfast! It's a bit of a hike up a pretty steep hill, but nothing unmanageable (and a good chance to walk off those pasties).

All in all, it suited our needs perfectly, and we'd be delighted to go back.

Delightful cosy cottage very well equipped good location for beaches & town centre looking forward to returning

A lovely cottage set up well for our holiday.

Sandows Lane.... an absolute gem. It suits us perfectly!! As soon as you walk in it feels like you belong there! Our second stay and there will be many more!

Perfect bolt hole for a family of 4 with a dog/s to stay and explore St Ives. The cottage has a contemporary interior design with a lovely homely feel.

Should be explained on the website and in the brochure that the bathroom is located downstairs in the property. The courtyard was a lot smaller than it appeared in the picture.

We are sorry if the layout of this property did not quite work for your party. Many of the traditional fisherman's cottages in St Ives, have more unusual/quirky layouts than more modern properties, but we have now made the bathroom location clearer on the website description. Thank you for your helpful suggestion and we hope that you had a great time. Tanya, Customer Services

Such a beautiful, quaint cottage in an ideal location for St Ives. Would definitely stay here again :-)

The property was fantastic and having visited St Ives for almost 30 years it is up there with the best. Use of space is outstanding and it didnt feel lile a small cottage. Very clean and well kept. The cottage is stocked with everything you could possibly need.

Great cottage with all the facilities. Quiet spot off the main road and very handy for walking into town or travelling around the region.
