Holidays in Sennen

Sennen is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt areas of Cornwall, famous for its unique location and beauty. Sennen is one of Cornwall's most popular surf spots, and its rugged scenery and many coves provide the perfect place to explore on a self catering holiday.

Sennen is the most westerly parish in the UK, nestled between Cape Cornwall and Land's End. Part of the village; the mediaeval church of St. Sennen with its low granite tower, the school, and the First & Last Inn are at the top of the cliff; with some older cottages 300 feet below by the quay, along with the Old Success, a seventeenth-century inn.

Sennen Cove is still a fishing village and home of Sennen Lifeboat. Established in 1853, The Royal National Lifeboat Institution`s Sennen Cove Station is situated just one mile northeast of Land’s End.

If you want to spot a bit of wildlife during your holiday in Sennen, basking sharks and dolphins are a common sight off the coast of Sennen. Join our friends in the water and head to Sennen Cove which is renowned for its great surf and friendly atmosphere. Or take a drive to Gwenver Beach, less than a mile from Sennen Cove and watch the sunset - a truly spectacular sight. Read more about Sennen holidays and Gwenver beach on our blog post about Sandy beaches in West Cornwall.

Top tip

Spend the festive season in Sennen and take part in the annual Christmas day swim!

Surfing in Sennen

Sennen is a prime location for surfing in Cornwall. With swell coming in from the Atlantic, the surf is good all year round and can be better than the more crowded surfing destinations such as Newquay. With two surf schools based at Sennen you'll be in good hands when it comes to learning the ropes.

Beach & coastal walks

Take a walk along the coast from Land's End to the beautiful and hidden Nanjizel beach; one of Cornwall's most spectacular beaches. Porthcurno is also only a short drive away with its beautiful beaches and the breathtaking Minack Theatre, showing regular outdoor performances throughout the summer months.

South from Sennen Cove you can walk the coastal path to Land’s End. Just over a mile as the chough flies, but all along the south-west coastal path you must allow for the uphill stretches and twisty bits of headland which make the walks longer.

Whitesand Bay, white as the name suggests, stretches northwards from Sennen Cove to Gwynver beach. Gwynver is accessible from Whitesand at low tide; and down steep steps from Trevedra Cliff at high tide. On New Year’s Day it’s become a bit of a tradition for hardy folk to jump into the Whitesand waves for a swim. The south-west coastal footpath runs along Whitesand behind the dunes. No dogs are allowed on the beach between 15th May and the 30th September, between 10am and 6pm.

Although it feels tucked away in the far west, Sennen self catering holidays are perfect for exploring West Penwith.

Things to do near Sennen

Roundhouse & Capstan Gallery
A unique circular gallery and converted netloft. It was originally used for housing a winch to haul boats up from the beach. Visit www.round-house.co.uk for more info.

Longships Lighthouse
The iconic Longships Lighthouse sits on Carn Bras, the biggest in a ribbon of jagged rocks just offshore. It appears curiously tall when seen from the road approaching Land's End. Just for a moment Longships seems to have landed at the holiday complex but it's all an illusion of topography. The galleon and helicopter might be set in cement in Land’s End square but the lighthouse is exactly where it should be, a mile off shore.

Land’s End:
Sennen Church is about a mile from the Land’s End Visitor Centre, where you can find Land’s End Hotel & restaurant, First & Last House, shops, cafe, exhibitions. It is famed for the signpost, at which you can have your photograph taken as one arm says Land’ End and the other your home town. There are weekly firework displays, special events and family entertainment. The best approach to the complex is via the coastal path, the sea views are magnificent. On an overcast day the visitor centre has much to occupy children.

Apple Tree Café, Trevescan
When self catering in Sennen, a place not to be missed is The Apple Tree Café at Trevescan, a left turn just before Land’s End. Home of Nick’s delicious home-made bread. It’s family friendly, amazing cakes, tea garden. A perfect place to meet before walking or after walking or probably before and after.

From the Apple Tree Cafe, you can walk into Land’s End; you can walk across the fields to the coastal path. All you need is the O/S Pathfinder or O/S Explorer 7 (Land’s End, Penzance and St Ives). If you can find one, get a copy of a book called ‘West of HayleRiver’ by Gerald and Sylvia Priestland. It is brim-full of walks, pictures and information about places and legends across the whole of West Penwith.

Farmers' Market
Every Tuesday, Sennen holds its very own farmers' market, perfect for stocking up on local produce when staying in a self catering cottage. Find out more on our blog: The Best Farmers’ Markets in West Cornwall

What our guests say...

We know how important honest reviews are when it comes to booking your holiday. To help you choose the right property for you, we publish all reviews left by guests who have stayed here in the past, with the few exceptions stated in our Review Guidelines. Please bear in mind that some facilities referred to by past guests in reviews can be removed or changed at any time.

Lovely place, would certainly recommend.

Don't be fooled by the pictures, this place is mouldy and dirty.

We are sorry to hear this. We would always expect that guests arrive to their chosen property to find that it has been cleaned to a high standard, but if that was not the case, we would always do everything possible to put that right for you. We can only apologise if any areas had been missed and please rest assured that this was followed up with the housekeeper. Thank you for your comments. Lucy, Customer Services

Overall we had a nice week at the Studio, the gardens are very nice, maybe the steps leading to the property could do with having the greenery cut back a bit though. The property is well equipped for all our needs. Parking on site, we had to park near the entrance as the ford was impassable in our car, you’d probably need a Range Rover type car to cross it, parking wasn’t a problem though. Surrounding area, St Buryan is a 2 min drive away with a shop and pub, the pub opens at 4pm serving decent food, but you’ll need to book in advance. The roads leading into St Buryan, and to the accommodation are very narrow and not easy to negotiate. The location however is very nice to look at, and pretty central for heading out and about. Accommodation itself is very well laid out, well equipped kitchen, bath towels are provided, a good tv with Netflix access, hair dryer, and an iron (although we couldn’t find the board?). If you’re looking for peace and tranquility then this is good for you, however if you like to be close to nightlife, or beaches etc then you’ll need to venture out.

We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Alsia Mill and found The Studio to be so well equipped. The property is set in a private estate with extensive grounds, so it is quite typical in these sorts of locations to find lanes narrower than some are used to. We do our very best to ensure that we are always being open and honest when marketing properties, so try to highlight the rural area and nearby roads as best we can. As you quite rightly said, the ford is not suitable for all vehicles, especially those with low clearance, so we do recommend that you park in the parking bays before you reach the ford if you have any concerns, and then access the property on foot. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back to Cornwall soon. Lucy, Customer Services

The Studio at Alsia Mill is a very lovely place to stay.We enjoyed our time there very much....

Romantic Estate and wonderful garden in a comfort distance to a few interesting places in South West Cornwall. Some items of the equipment need care.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

It's great to hear that you had a lovely stay at The Studio at Alsia Mill. As you have said, there are some beautiful places to go explore, and some fantastic beach and coastal walks nearby. If you don't feel like venturing far, you can also explore the stunning garden set in the property's four-acre estate.

We are very sorry to hear that you felt that there were some areas needing a bit of attention. A lot can happen to a property in a short space of time, so thank you for bringing this to our attention, so that we can investigate your comments and pass the feedback on to the property owners. Katy, Customer Services.

We (two adults and a dog) had a lovely stay at the Alsia Mill studio. The area just outside the studio is great for sitting and relaxing and the grounds/garden were lovely. Thoroughly recommended.

Great setting on the quieter side of Penzance. Plenty to do locally. Great place to relax.

This is the second time we have stayed at Alsia Mill and it is a dream. The grounds are beautifully kept and so tranquil in the country side. A small local shop is very near by just a 7minute drive to outstanding beaches. One of our favourite places to stay, we will book again.

Great place to stay, in lovely surroundings.

we loved it at alsia mill we will be back

We were finally able to stay here after having to rebook due to Covid and boy was it worth the wait! What a stunning and charming location, we felt at peace and very relaxed in our own little hidden away studio. It’s beautifully decorated throughout and you feel right at home! Being part of a touring company visiting the Minack we were only a short drive away from the theatre (which was ideal for us) and were also easily able to visit many other tourist spots during our stay. Would highly recommend for those wanting a quiet and relaxing stay in Cornwall.

Perfect for peace and quiet. A great place for getting away from it all in lovely grounds.

Lovely property with beautiful gardens and a great base for access to many local visitors attractions.

Loved the location, peaceful and tranquil. Tidy studio. Enjoyed the rustic views of the landscape. Liked the clotted cream, jam and scones. Nice touch.

A lovely quiet location and pretty Studio perfect for a long weekend. Although it may appear quite rural it is very well situated to travel around the lands end peninsula.

Unsuitable for elderly guests , certainly not for those who suffer with a disability

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your review. The Studio is a rural retreat, set within quite extensive grounds and there are a number of steps up from the parking area, so it is certainly not somewhere that we would recommend for anyone with limited mobility. We do our very best to ensure that we are always being open and honest with the marketing for properties, so try to highlight the rural area and steps from the parking as best as possible, but we will always act on guests' feedback to ensure that important information is highlighted and have now specifically stated on the website that it may not suit those with limited mobility. Tanya, Customer Services

A comfortable single room property in a superb setting. The property benefits from a private garden terrace and access to extensive and well maintained grounds. Highly recommended for short breaks.

Beautiful gardens with peaceful surroundings. Would definitely book again!

Poor service from Aspect holidays, I had no hot water for much of my stay, the fridge didn’t work properly, I had to throw out all my food, final straw the shower was not cleaned between guests it overflowed. I was constantly having to call or go and find the owner, to rectify matters. This was not a restful or relaxing holiday. The place itself was amazing, my experience was not positive to the point I left a day early.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We were so sorry that this happened on your stay. Things can go wrong in properties from time to time and we will always work hard with local trades and owners to try and get issues resolved as quickly as possible, but we appreciate that it can be disappointing. I can see that the water heater was replaced, and another fridge brought over 3 days into your 7-day booking but we appreciate that this would have been very inconvenient. Although the shower was cleaned, the housekeeper should have checked the shower trap and cleared that of anything, and we are sorry that this then led to it draining too slowly later in your stay. This was followed up and addressed as soon as we were aware from your feedback but again, we are very sorry for any inconvenience. Tanya, Customer Services

Apart from a few little issues, we enjoyed our stay at the Studio, the setting is fabulous and the pub in St Buryan was a great place to eat, very friendly and good food, value for money. Would revisit if a few things were put in place. Good luck for the future. Wendy and John.

The grounds of Alsia Mill are beautifully maintained and in a peaceful setting. It's an excellent choice for winding down and taking time out to relax.

The Studio is decorated in light pastels and is very comfortable, with excellent kitchen and bathroom facilities. The view of the grounds from the terrace is lovely.

There are some thoughtful touches, a cream tea awaits your arrival; flowers from the garden, and washing up and hand wash provisions too.

I've already recommended all the holiday lets at Alsia Mill to family and friends, and I will be booking again next year.

Absolutely loved our stay here. It's a perfect getaway for two people. The Studio setting is peaceful and the gardens are luscious. So clean and hygienic. I immediately booked for next year!

This is a comfortable base in a beautiful location, very peaceful and welcoming. The ford is a bit daunting but ample parking just a little walk from the property avoids it. We will definitely see if the Studio is available for our next visit to the area.

Our stay at Alsia Mill (Studio) was great. Though a little distance from Sennen down country lanes, it's totally worth a few day's stay. It's secluded and peaceful with plenty of space to cater for yourself if needed, sit outside with a coffee in the morning listening to the chirping birds, or just using it as a base for mini-road trips around the coastline. All things considered with Covid, the standard of cleanliness was fantastic and made it the supplied guidelines made it very simple to check-out efficiently making it safe for everyone involved. So thank you very much for our stay, we will no doubt visit again sometime.

Set in a beautiful, peaceful location. Idyllic, pretty studio accommodation with modern amenities. Excellent location for exploring nearby Sennen Cove, Porthcurno and The Minack Theatre.

I spent 4 nights in the Studio at Alsia Mill on the recommendation of a friend after I unexpectedly needed to find dog friendly accommodation at the last minute. As my dogs are small the owners agreed for me to bring them both, much appreciated! The location is beautiful and the buildings have been renovated and finished to a high standard. I was able to explore the grounds without any concern for the dogs getting out onto the road and appreciated being able to hose them down after their muddy walk. The Studio is comfortable and was cosy in February with easily controlled heating. A huge bonus was gazing at the star filled sky from bed on my first night!

The owners of the Studio at Alsia Mills have created a lovely bolthole with their attention to detail and the high spec finish. The owners have also provided some really useful information of places to eat etc. in the handbook at the studio and also an insight into the history of the buildings which was a really interesting read. We took some of their advice from the hand book and had some very good quality food on this holiday.
The location is rural being about two miles outside of Sennen and about a mile and a half from St Buryan down narrow country lanes, which means that if you are the kind of couple that needs entertainment on the doorstep this property will not be for you unless one of you is prepared to be the designated driver.

BUT if you want to throw open the beautiful full width folding doors and sit on your own private terrace to drink your coffee and eat while enjoying the birdsong you will love this secluded retreat. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a relaxed meal and there are two comfy deckchairs on the terrace as well as a bistro table and chairs.

The Studio is the perfect base for exploring the south west area of Cornwall with Sennen on your doorstep and Lands End. Cape Cornwall, Botallack and St Ives are a short drive up the coast road and heading the other way towards Penzance you have The Minnack, Porthcurno, Mousehole and Falmouth. We enjoyed our week here very much and loved listening to the owls in the evening, watching the bats and stargazing. I came away with some very good images of the Milky Way right from the communal garden, take your binoculars to enjoy the clear skies.

Our stand in Studio at Alsia Mill well enduringly keep in our mind. A lovely accommodation in a much more beautyful garden. Highest standard and really pleasant furnished. Recommendable!

Just returned from our 5th holiday at the studio. The location is such a little gem in beautiful peaceful surroundings.

Highly recommend. Lovely get away for peace and quiet but a great location to get to other places (by car) small but just right for a couple with everything you need. Clean and beautifully furnished. Would stay again.

Perfect property for nice and peaceful holiday. Very quiet location, away from crowds but close enough to best beaches in Cornwall. Beautifully refurbished. After minor inconvenience the owner as well as Aspects Holiday staff did everything to keep us happy, unfortunately the caretaker couldn't satisfy us. Bottom line: One of my best holidays and will come back next year. Thank you!

When all you're after is a great location/base from which to explore the surrounding area, The Studio at Alsia Mill fits the bill.

Be it a day trip to St. Ives or St. Michael's Mount, taking in an afternoon performance at the Minark Theatre, strolling on the beach in Sennen Cove, watching a film at the lovely little independent Newlyn Filmhouse or having a lovely meal at 2 Fore Street in Mousehole, this was a ideal place to stay.

If you wanted a little more space then The Barn would be the better option at the site, if available.

We have just spent a week at the studio. The setting is idyllic and the studio beautiful. We had fantastic weather so we're out and about a lot. Be sure to arrive with enough food etc to get you started, the mill is, a little out of the way for just bobbing out for something you've forgotten. Be aware that the ford can be a bit daunting, I wouldn't like to cross it in a low slung vehicle. Take binoculars the stars are amazing. Have a great time in a little bit of heaven

Although the roof windows were great for letting in light along with the ease of shutting the blinds . Unfortunately if it happens to rain at night the water dripping from the trees makes sleep all but impossible .A remedy for the problem would be the removal of the over hanging branches .I cant believe that we had to ask for a change of linen and towels each week even though we had requested this at the time of booking .Anyone letting out holiday properties should be obliged to spend a week living in them to iron out any problems

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are so sorry that the note on your booking regarding a weekly linen change was missed. Many guests prefer to be left undisturbed during their holiday, and so prefer to wash their own linen, so we cannot offer this as an automatic facility to everyone on bookings longer than a week; however, I can see from the notes on your booking, that you had requested for a linen change, so there is no excuse for that not happening, and we cannot apologise enough for that. Regarding the dripping rain noise, this has only been mentioned once before, so we will continue to monitor for any further feedback on this and pass on the information, to see if the trees are usually cut back further than they were for your stay. Thank you for letting us know, and we are sorry if it led to disturbed sleep. We hope that you enjoyed everything else about this property and its lovely peaceful location. Tanya, Customer Services

Stunning location very welcoming which is very important on arrival that starts your holiday ??

The Studio was perfect for our one week stay, very well equipped and comfortable. The property is beautiful and it is ideally located. We would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

I contacted your office concerning noise by rain on the velux windows which kept us from having a good nights sleep even a peaceful day. As stated someone from your office should visit this property when it rains heavily. It does spoil a holiday when you want a peaceful week. Like Location. Not so happy about noise unless it's a dry week. Rain you can not stop but it should not spoil a break

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are really sorry to hear about how noisy you had found the rain on the velux windows. Quite honestly, this is the first time that this has ever been reported, so at this stage, we are not sure if it is louder due to the type of window and its angle, or if the trees had grown over further than normal, making the dripping noise louder. When you stay in a property, you get to experience it in a different way than we do when we inspect the properties, so thank you for bringing this to our attention; we will closely monitor for any further feedback. We hope that you still enjoyed your time here despite this, and thanks again. Tanya, Customer Services

We loved the secluded and tranquil location of The Studio. The outside terrace was perfect for enjoying an evening drink, and a real sun trap. The property is stylishly decorated and comfortable, and a perfect base to explore West Cornwall. We would definitely stay again.

Wonderful idyllic, quiet and perfect location for coastal walks around the tip end of Cornwall. Lovely pubs close by especially the Logan in Treen. Perfect for trips to Sennen and the Minack Theatre. Also perfect for dogs.

Outstanding location and a real gem of a find, especially as this was a last minute break. Ideal for those who like privacy with access to 4 acres of stunning grounds and the studio was excellent like a 4 star hotel and the patio and garden area perfect if you have a pet. You are a few miles from Sennen Cove and excellent other beaches and places to see. Can recommend the Sennen to Lands End costal walk. Thank you Aspect Holidays truly a memorable stay.

A beautiful studio in peaceful landscaped gardens. Perfect location to enjoy all the sites of Cornwall hence just home from our second visit and already booked for next year!

It really was a lovely place and these issues didn't spoil whole experience

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are really sorry that the shower tray blocked during your stay and the ventilation in the bathroom not felt to be sufficient; the shower tray was seen to as soon as we were made aware, so draining away as normal now and we are monitoring any further feedback on the bathroom ventilation and will check on this on our next inspection. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Great to hear that you had a lovely stay here. Tanya, Customer Services

GReat location for visiting all the small coves in Cornwall. top notch property with a beautiful garden.

A beautiful and peaceful place if you want a relaxing weekend/week away.

Ideal for a couple looking for total peace and quite

The Studio and Alsia Mill exceeded expectations and was just what we wanted. Just the right size for a couple wanting to escape for the weekend. Lovely finish and decor, and the bi-fold doors allow you to open the whole place up and appreciate the beautiful and peaceful setting. It is also ideally situated for Sennen, Porthcurno and St Ives isn't too far either. We had a delightful stay, will come again and highly recommend the Studio.

A truly great location with splendid gardens. Close enough to Village shops and pubs. With some of the best coastal views and beaches within a couple of miles. Accommodation is of a high standard and well equipped. Anybody would find it hard not to relax here.

Overall lovely stay and delightful location

The studio is situated in a dip .. serenity , amazing surrounding
