Captain's Haven
Sennen

£688 - £1911 per week
Book

This beautiful granite cottage, perched on the hillside, overlooks the whole of Whitesands Bay. With easy access to a footpath, it takes just five minutes to walk down to the beach and promenade. Once a local seafarer's home, Captain's Haven retains much of its character with exposed granite walls and a natural wood interior. There is a patio on either side of the property, providing breathtaking views and allowing you to enjoy both the morning and evening sun.

Built into the hillside, there is a small path leading all the way down to the Cove where you will find the crescent shaped Whitesands beach with a mile of golden sand and some of the best Surf in the country. Sennen Cove has been voted one of the top 10 places to learn to surf in the UK but If you're looking for a more relaxed day then there is the Old Success Inn and Ben Tunnicliffe's restaurant, both perfect spots to enjoy a leisurely meal and a drink. Just up from the property runs the South West Coast path which offers some of the most spectacular walks in The County and with the benefit of a private parking space, if venturing further afield, St Ives, Mousehole and Penzance, along with the famous St Michael's Mount in Marazion, are all accessible in under half an hour.

September 2023

Captain's haven is the perfect holiday home. It is perfect inside and even better outside with an astonishing view on the sea and the beach. It was exactly as we expected it from the pictures. We couldn't stop looking at the sea from our bed (and it was also possible from all windows except the two bathrooms). The house is very well equipped, very good isolated and magnificently renovated. The beds are very confortable. There is a café, a pub and a fish and chips by the beach and a little supermarket a couple of minutes walk in Sennen. We will never forget our stay in Sennen Cove and hope to come back.

Holidays in Sennen

Sennen is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt areas of Cornwall, famous for its unique location and beauty. Sennen is one of Cornwall's most popular surf spots, and its rugged scenery and many coves provide the perfect place to explore on a self catering holiday.

Sennen is the most westerly parish in the UK, nestled between Cape Cornwall and Land's End. Part of the village; the mediaeval church of St. Sennen with its low granite tower, the school, and the First & Last Inn are at the top of the cliff; with some older cottages 300 feet below by the quay, along with the Old Success, a seventeenth-century inn.

Sennen Cove is still a fishing village and home of Sennen Lifeboat. Established in 1853, The Royal National Lifeboat Institution`s Sennen Cove Station is situated just one mile northeast of Land’s End.

If you want to spot a bit of wildlife during your holiday in Sennen, basking sharks and dolphins are a common sight off the coast of Sennen. Join our friends in the water and head to Sennen Cove which is renowned for its great surf and friendly atmosphere. Or take a drive to Gwenver Beach, less than a mile from Sennen Cove and watch the sunset - a truly spectacular sight. Read more about Sennen holidays and Gwenver beach on our blog post about Sandy beaches in West Cornwall.

Top tip

Spend the festive season in Sennen and take part in the annual Christmas day swim!

Surfing in Sennen

Sennen is a prime location for surfing in Cornwall. With swell coming in from the Atlantic, the surf is good all year round and can be better than the more crowded surfing destinations such as Newquay. With two surf schools based at Sennen you'll be in good hands when it comes to learning the ropes.

Beach & coastal walks

Take a walk along the coast from Land's End to the beautiful and hidden Nanjizel beach; one of Cornwall's most spectacular beaches. Porthcurno is also only a short drive away with its beautiful beaches and the breathtaking Minack Theatre, showing regular outdoor performances throughout the summer months.

South from Sennen Cove you can walk the coastal path to Land’s End. Just over a mile as the chough flies, but all along the south-west coastal path you must allow for the uphill stretches and twisty bits of headland which make the walks longer.

Whitesand Bay, white as the name suggests, stretches northwards from Sennen Cove to Gwynver beach. Gwynver is accessible from Whitesand at low tide; and down steep steps from Trevedra Cliff at high tide. On New Year’s Day it’s become a bit of a tradition for hardy folk to jump into the Whitesand waves for a swim. The south-west coastal footpath runs along Whitesand behind the dunes. No dogs are allowed on the beach between 15th May and the 30th September, between 10am and 6pm.

Although it feels tucked away in the far west, Sennen self catering holidays are perfect for exploring West Penwith.

Things to do near Sennen

Roundhouse & Capstan Gallery
A unique circular gallery and converted netloft. It was originally used for housing a winch to haul boats up from the beach. Visit www.round-house.co.uk for more info.

Longships Lighthouse
The iconic Longships Lighthouse sits on Carn Bras, the biggest in a ribbon of jagged rocks just offshore. It appears curiously tall when seen from the road approaching Land's End. Just for a moment Longships seems to have landed at the holiday complex but it's all an illusion of topography. The galleon and helicopter might be set in cement in Land’s End square but the lighthouse is exactly where it should be, a mile off shore.

Land’s End:
Sennen Church is about a mile from the Land’s End Visitor Centre, where you can find Land’s End Hotel & restaurant, First & Last House, shops, cafe, exhibitions. It is famed for the signpost, at which you can have your photograph taken as one arm says Land’ End and the other your home town. There are weekly firework displays, special events and family entertainment. The best approach to the complex is via the coastal path, the sea views are magnificent. On an overcast day the visitor centre has much to occupy children.

Apple Tree Café, Trevescan
When self catering in Sennen, a place not to be missed is The Apple Tree Café at Trevescan, a left turn just before Land’s End. Home of Nick’s delicious home-made bread. It’s family friendly, amazing cakes, tea garden. A perfect place to meet before walking or after walking or probably before and after.

From the Apple Tree Cafe, you can walk into Land’s End; you can walk across the fields to the coastal path. All you need is the O/S Pathfinder or O/S Explorer 7 (Land’s End, Penzance and St Ives). If you can find one, get a copy of a book called ‘West of HayleRiver’ by Gerald and Sylvia Priestland. It is brim-full of walks, pictures and information about places and legends across the whole of West Penwith.

Farmers' Market
Every Tuesday, Sennen holds its very own farmers' market, perfect for stocking up on local produce when staying in a self catering cottage. Find out more on our blog: The Best Farmers’ Markets in West Cornwall

Lovely square stone house, with amazing views. Clean. Let down by outdoor space, just a two metre wide strip of stone paving and tarmac with uncomfortable picnic benches. But if there had been a lovely patio and comfortable loungers probably wouldn’t have left the cottage, just sat and gazed at the view! As it was we had fabulous walks and swimming- if you’re a surfer it’s ideal! Path down to village needs strimming and fencing.

Those views are pretty special aren't they? We will certainly pass on your suggestion to the property owner about a couple of loungers, so that their guests can enjoy that space outside space even move. We try to show that space as best as we can on the photos, so we are sorry if this was not what you were expecting. We are glad that you enjoyed everything else about the property though and hopefully you enjoyed the beautiful Sennen just as much. Tanya, Customer Services

Stunning views from a very comfortable and well equipped cottage. Position on hillside above Sennen Cove is fantastic for accessing the sea and beach and the S W Coastal path from the door. Short trips out by car to beautiful Porthcurno , Minnack Theatre and Mouse Hole on South coast and St Ives on the North. We were lucky to have a glorious week of sunny days. We hope to be back next year!

Cozy cottage with old world charm in a stunning location! The little path downhill to Sennen Cove was accompanied by wild flowers and bird song. Highly recommend The Old Boathouse Store at the bottom of the hill which stocks everything from groceries to medicine, Moomaid ice cream, wet suits and more. The bus stop for the Lands End Coaster is right there. Easy walk along the coast to Lands End where the pasties are delicious. The staff at Aspects Holidays are wonderful and dealt with our heating issues promptly and professionally.

Lovely clean cosy well equipped cottage. Nice decor throughout inkeeping but modern. Views are stunning from 90% of the windows! Spent alot of time watching the view! Fantastic beach 5 minute walk from cottage. Local pubs great too.

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely cosy cottage with an amazing view on the bay. Everything you might need and more! (Plus a short walk to the village pub!)

Perfect sea views from the property. Very cosy and well equipped. A quick walk to the beach. Lovely cliff walk to Lands End.

We had a wonderful holiday in Captains Haven a beautiful old stone cottage. Fantastic sea views from every window . Very clean , comfortable and homely . We enjoyed the scones , jam and cream that were waiting for us on arrival a real treat . Thank you.

This was our third visit to this property and we are still very happy with it - looking forward to our next visit in the autumn.

Rainbow waves, stunning views, waking up to soft sunrise sights and sounds, views of the sea from the comfortable bed with divine pillows, spotlessly clean throughout, well equipped kitchen, stunning views, warm and cosy for a March stay, a great base for exploration, Lands End only a mile or two walk away, or starting point for longer treks, stunning views, friendly folk in the businesses that were open this time of year, the little cafe was a delight, quirky gallery in the Roundhouse worth a look, dolphins, seals, choughs, so many birds to spot, stunning sunsets to sit and enjoy after a walk down to cove or up to coastal path, turquoise seas and did I mention stunning views?? I hope to return next year.

Captain's Haven was a little gem tucked away up the hill in Sennen Cove. Lots of reviews mention the tight parking but the access road was also tight and we arrived in the pitch dark, fog and rain so if you're a nervous driver (I'm not) try to arrive in daylight. The cottage is really well equipped, they honestly thought of everything. We made full use of the local pub, The Old Success Inn, but if you wanted to cook, the kitchen had everything you needed. Point to note, there is no shop in Sennen Cove. There was a small Spar a short distance away but it wasn't well stocked this could be as it is January. The views are stunning, there is nothing like sitting in bed with your morning cuppa looking at the ocean and if you like walking there are plenty of places to stretch your legs. All in all, we had a fantastic time and the cottage was a big part of that. A real home from home - but with better views.

This cottage is in an ideal position with far-reaching views. We found it clean, warm and well-equipped. It is highly recommended.

Great well equipped cottage, Excellent views overlooking the cove from every window. Would definitely use again.

Captains Haven is everything you could want or need from a holiday cottage. Wonderful sea views. Great location for beach walks, the coastal path and bird watching. A cosy, well equipped and immaculately clean cottage. We had a superb holiday.

Just back from a wonderful week in Captain's Haven. As everyone has said in previous reviews it really is all about the views from this wonderful cottage.

We came for a walking holiday and we did some great walks from the cottage as well as on the beautiful beach below. I can only imagine how fantastic it must be to be here in the summer and be able to wander down to the beach from the property.

Only downside is the parking is a bit tight.

Like the last years, we enjoyed our stay and the great view at Captain`s Haven very much and are looking forward to next year (: Thanks to the short way to the beach we were able to spend a lot of time down by the sea.

What a perfect cottage in a perfect location! Beautiful uninterrupted panoramic sea views. The cottage was very well equipped, very clean and comfortable. We spent most of our long drive home planning another visit. Thank you.

The place to stay if you like accommodation with a view.

We had a Fabulous holiday at Captains Haven (the Cottage would sleep four adults and two children,) it was perfect for us as a couple. The sea views were amazing. Walking to Lands End on the nearby coast path was the highlight of the holiday. The cottage would not suit anyone who had mobility issues, as the steps down from the parking area are very steep, as is the footpath down to the harbour, shops, and restaurants.

We know Sennen well, and have camped and rented cottages around the place. Captain's Haven was booked very hurriedly to get something after lockdown. When we got there our expectations were far exceeded. The location is spectacular and the cottage is warm, cosy, well set out. The views are amazing right across the cove and Gwenver beach and out to sea. Only 5 mins walk down the track to the village. We had a wonderful week there and are already telling others about it.

Lovely house with beautiful views. Quality equipment and furniture. Parking space is tight but everyone parked carefully, so it wasn't a problem. The steps down to the property are steep and could do with a proper handrail to hold onto, not just the wide top of the wooden balustrade.

To get the benefit of being perched over the beautiful Sennen Cove, there are a few steep steps to the property. We would always want to ensure that guests have an accurate expectation of the property that they book, so we try to make the access as clear as possible within our description, as this may not suit everyone. We will pass on your suggestion to the property owner, for their consideration, but if you are ever looking to return to the area, and something like this is an important consideration, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us so that we can help advise you on the best properties to suit your needs. Tanya, Customer Services

A very comfortable, cosy cottage in a great location with fantastic sea views that match the website advertisement. Very convenient free car parking space (a huge blessing in Sennen Cove!). A perfect location for coast path walkers and beach lovers. We loved the under-floor heating in the kitchen and the log burner, as well as clear sea views from two of the bedrooms. A great get-away space for couples and I'm sure for families too.

Comfortable cottage with marvellous view with easy access to the beach.

We loved our stay at Captain's Haven. The cottage is in a fantastic location with stunning views and is clean, comfortable and well-equipped. Did I mention the views - binoculars were provided, and we spent hours watching the gannets diving and the waves breaking over the rocks!

Comfortable, good sized property with amazing views over Sennen, along the coast to Cape Cornwall. Perfect for family holidays.

A fabulous location and a very comfortable home. Very well equipped!

A lovely place with great views.

We have just spent a week at Captains Haven cottage in Sennen Cove. The property was perfect and very comfortable. Loved the kitchen. The views from the cottage are spectacular. If you want peace and quiet I would highly recommend. Great location.

Warm, comfortable and a lovely location. We had a very enjoyable holiday. We are keen walkers and the bus services were very useful in allowing us to do coastal walks.

A lovely house in a great location. Quick access to the beach, the pub, and the coastal footpath. Great service from Aspects.

Great location, brilliant views warm house, well equipped

Beautiful warm and comfortable cottage to stay in with amazing views over Sennen Cove, with a lovely walk to Land’s End just around the corner.

We loved the location and the excellent views across Sennen Cove. The cottage was very private and the internal decor was pristine. It was very comfortable and luxurious. We loved lighting the wood burner in the evening after a day’s surfing and getting really cosy.

A gem of a cottage with fantastic views over the bay.

Amazing views, but poor outside area and parking.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the outside area at the property. We try to show and describe this as best as possible within the photos, so we are very sorry if this was not what you had expected. We would also like to apologise for the parking space being cordoned off for maintenance; we had not been aware at the time and had we known, we would have been in contact beforehand to discuss this, so we really are sorry for that. We hope that you still had a nice time here and enjoyed this beautiful area and the stunning views from this property. Tanya, Customer Services

Fantastic location

We had a fantastic stay in this cottage, which must have one of the best views on the Cove.

Property very clean and comfortable, and sea views spectacular.

Will definitely be back!

Captains Haven is a lovely cottage, holds many traditional features yet offers total comfort and relaxation for the perfect holiday. Set high above Sennen Cove means the views are breathtaking and perfect for outdoor eating. As a family of five we had a lovely stay and cannot fault it for a great holiday!

V enjoyable week - thank you

A truly comfortable home from home with amazing views over the bay

Lovely house with beautiful views of Sennen.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Captain's Haven. We took full advantage of the good weather to explore the SW coast path in both directions. The scenery and coves are just beautiful. We were so delighted to see 'choughs' at Cape Cornwall and a visit to Boat Cove is essential for bird enthusiasts.

We have already booked for next year, it will be our 3rd visit to this lovely cottage with stunning views of the Cove, it's a joy to sit outside in the garden and listen to the sound of the sea as the waves hit the shore.

Lovely, well equipped cottage in an outstanding position, where we felt relaxed and on holiday throughout our stay.

Lovely to sit outside the property in the sunshine and look out over the whole bay which has a stunning view all around

A beautiful place to stay with stunning views. Comfortable and welcoming. So happy to be there.

We loved Captains Haven, great location and a really well furnished property, lots of room and comfortable. We would definitely like to return.
