Holidays in West Cornwall

There is almost an embarrassment of riches for the visitor to choose from when looking at holiday cottages in West Cornwall. With its extraordinary variety of landscapes and coastline, as well as its proud history and cultural heritage, you won't be disappointed.

With many superb beaches to enjoy, including five with the coveted Blue Flag status, it is easy to see why so many people associate this part of the world with sun, sea, sand and, of course, surf. There is, however, so much more on offer when contemplating self catering holidays in West Cornwall.

West Cornwall is home to popular destinations such as MarazionPenzanceCarbis Bay and St Ives, which are all worth a visit. From the iconic St Michael's Mount to the breath taking Minack Theatre as featured in our blog, you wont be short of things to do while self catering in West Cornwall.

Things to do in West Cornwall

Days out

With such an abundance of stunning sights in West Cornwall, you'll be spoilt for choice when choosing where to visit while holidaying here. St Michael's Mount, The Minack Theatre, and St Ives harbour are just a few of the enthralling places on offer. The many golden sandy beaches that West Cornwall boasts are perfect for topping up the tan. For something a little more energetic, boat trips, fishing excursions and water sports are available. Museums and art galleries provide an equally enjoyable day out, with world famous exhibitions at the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth museum within easy reach.

With the bustling coastal towns of St Ives, Mousehole and Marazion within close proximity of one another, you can be sure to find somewhere to provide everything you need to the perfect family day out.

Walking

Cornwall's spectacular scenery provides the perfect backdrop for exploring. The coastal paths which hug the rugged cliffs offer breath taking sea views, while walking inland you can enjoy the many nature reserves, ancient stone circles and woodland, for which Cornwall is renowned.

Art & heritage

Famous for its quality of light, the area has long been a haven for artists and there are many galleries to be found wherever you go. There are also many gardens to enjoy; the mild climate will often let plants flourish here which you won’t find anywhere else in the country. For those wanting to dig a little deeper, there is also an amazing mining and maritime heritage which has done much to shape the county and its people as well as, it could be argued, the rest of the world.

This was a fifth stay for us at Botrea Hayloft. We can't recommend it highly enough if you're looking for a comfortable and luxurious place from which to explore the wonderful SW corner of Cornwall. A beautiful, well equipped place in lovely surroundings - within easy reach of everything penwith has to offer - beaches, coastal and country walks, art galleries, fantastic local food...perfect!

The Hayloft was extremely comfortable, well thought out and beautifully furnished with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The property was surrounded by wonderful countryside and offered great opportunities to explore the local area on foot. It was also in a great place for visiting the coast.

This was a beautiful place to stay. It had more than enough for living day to day if you wanted to cook. Instructions were very clear and helpful. Would highly recommend this holiday home to anyone wishing for a peaceful quiet place to stay. Brilliant

Beautifully located and furnished in peaceful unspoiled valley. Close to all Penwith attractions & a lovely place to spend your holidays. Flat was equipped with everything you need. Definitely a place to come back. Thanks to the owners & to the Aspects team.

This Property is ideal for a quiet and relaxing vacation. Tucked away, within a short drive of Beaches and other areas along the coastline. Lovely accommodation and warm welcome.

Our 2nd stay...lovely property! Generous welcome pack and spotlessly clean. Near to one of our favourite spots Sennen Cove...

Botrea Hayloft ist beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated. The bed is comfortable, the wardrobe is big enough for two people. The shower is spacious and the water pressure really good. The kitchen is fully equipped, dishwasher and washingmachine/dryer included. Nice furniture and decorations in the living room with a Smart TV and DVD player. Parking right outside the Hause. The owners Paget and Andrew are really friendly and made us feel welcome also with some tasty goodies, thank you! We can recommend Botrea Hayloft and would book it again.

Botrea hayloft provides excellent accommodation in lovely peaceful surroundings. We were provided with some supplies and some extra lovely touches(flowers and local lager) for our arrival. Friendly and helpful hosts that make you feel that your holiday experience is very important to them. Would definitely highly recommend this destination!.

Botrea Hayloft is truly a home from home, it exceeded my expectations & we had a perfect week's stay. The owners have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make a stay at Botrea Hayloft exceptional. It is light & airy & beautifully decorated & has all you need for a perfect holiday!

Lovely homely accommodation best we have stayed in. High quality fixtures and fittings. Great host popped into see us then left us to it. Got visits from their lovely cat Jacks. Purchased a weekly bus pass to get around great value for money.

Such a wonderful location and a great base for exploring West Cornwall. The Hayloft has been thoughtfully renovated and decorated. It’s clean and light and had everything needed for our getaway. The weather was a little cool and wet during our June stay, so the wood burner was a real highlight for us, logs are sold in many of the local shops. We found the crows and jackdaws near the bedroom rather noisy, so had to keep the windows closed, but I am sure this was just due to nesting season. Overall, a really special little place away from the crowds and a quiet retreat, birds permitting!

Had a brilliant 5 days at Botrea Hayloft, the property was spotless and of a very high standard. Thank you to the owners, what a lovely holiday home in a beautiful setting. The welcome pack was a very nice touch. Will definitely be returning.

Botrea Hayloft is a wonderful place to stay. Cleanliness was excellent and owners provided us with some essentials to start our holiday which was very much appreciated. The location is quiet and perfect for a relaxing break. Surrounding beaches were a short car journey and we really enjoyed exploring the different places. We can’t wait to return in the future and can’t recommend it enough.

Our third visit to the luxurious Botrea Hayloft - and we still find it supremely comfortable and a great location for a super relaxing stay in Cornwall. Surrounded by beautiful beaches, fantastic costal and country walks and all that Penzance, Newlyn, St Just and St Ives have to offer in easy reach it's difficult to beat (which I guess is why we keep coming back)!

If you want a quiet location in order to relax, this property ticks the box.

It is well decorated and maintained, with modern, functioning equipment.

Third visit to this outstandingly good property. Smart and spacious, secluded but within easy reach of all the settlements, beaches and good walks. Wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in West Penwith;

The Botrea Hayloft was such a perfect haven. Set away from the hustle and bustle. Surrounding countryside was so peaceful, only sounds were the birds and cattle. Our hosts were friendly and made us feel very welcome. Though set in the countryside, St Just and Penzance were only a shirt distance away. We would highly recommend the hayloft it is lovely.

This was our second visit to Bortrea and we hope it won’t be our last. This is a beautiful place and ideal for couples. The property is beautifully maintained and in a great spot if you want to get away from it all.lovely comfortable bed abs great power shower. Very generous welcome pack Excellent standard of cleanliness and COVID guidelines adhered to. Very well equipped kitchen. Loved the selection of books in the hayloft left by the owners Owners popped in to say hello, they are lovely people and then remained discreet but on hand should there have been a problem. Bluebells in nearby woods were just stunning, walks were tranquil We had a blissful stay and felt very rested when we returned home.

Had a lovely relaxing time. Beautiful property with lovely furnishings and great views. Extremely clean and lovely welcome pack. So near the local beaches, Sennon Cove and Porthcurno were our favourites. Owners were so helpful. We loved it so much we have booked for next year.

We enjoyed a fabulous 2 weeks here in October and were blessed with terrific weather which was a bonus. The hayloft itself is beautiful, comfortable, and had everything we needed. It is also very well positioned for exploring every corner of the south west peninsula. The hosts were delightful, called by to check we had everything we needed, and offered helpful info about the area. If you want peaceful seclusion in beautiful countryside with breathtaking beaches, coves, villages and coastal walks a short drive away look no further. We also enjoyed the best welcome pack we have ever received! Thor & Joyce

We have stayed here twice and have booked for next year. It's perfect for us as it's off the beaten track but within easy travelling distance of good walking and facilities. Weather permitting, the night skies are great and sitting by the pond in the sunshine is so calming.

Very clean and comfortable accommodation in good location. Well placed for exploring a beautiful area.

My wife and I enjoyed a glorious 10 days at Botrea Hayloft which we found to be very well equipped and spacious. It was comfortable and peaceful in the rural farm location, yet close to the places we wanted to visit. Would highly recommend. We always felt safe during the Covid 19 times. We had to move our booking from May until September and Aspect Holidays handled it all perfectly.

One of the happiest most restful holidays we have ever had. Botrea is surrounded by countryside but only 15 mins from main supermarkets etc. High spec property lovingly restored by the current owners. Wonderfully comfortable bed, power shower and a lovely welcome pack on arrival. The kitchen is well equipped with all you need and the local fishmonger visits every Monday with an array of freshly caught fish to cook up for supper. Please visit, you won’t regret it. We hope to be back one day...a pure gem of a property.

This was a return stay for us at Botrea Hayloft and it was even better than we remembered. This characterful property is luxurious and comfortable. Hosts couldn't be more welcoming and we wanted for nothing. You wake up up to gorgeous views across Cornish countryside and, after breakfast by your own tranquil pond, all that Penwith has to offer - secret coves, cliff top walks, fantastic art - is all right on your doorstep. We really didn't want to leave...

My partner and I stayed at Botrea Hayloft for a week in July 2020. The accommodation itself and the hosts were so welcoming, even taking time out of their day to come and check up on us during our stay.

We felt at ease at the accommodation due to the explanation of additional procedures having been implemented to help reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission, such as: thorough cleaning of all surfaces, high touch points, cutlery and appliances. The hayloft came with everything that was needed to cook and clean and even extras that we didn’t expect, which were greatly appreciated. The location was ideal for our stay, with only being 15 minutes to neighbouring villages such as Mousehole, st.just and Sennen which are all defiantly worth a visit. Additionally, st ives only being a 30 minute drive away. We would definitely return and will recommend Botrea Hayloft to anyone looking to stay in cornwall! thanks for such a lovely stay :)

We arrived at Botrea Hayloft to a warm welcome Lights on/tea and coffee/biscuits/saffron buns/milk and butter - everything we needed Paget left us a message should we need anything and visited us the next day to see that all was well The Hayloft was very well equipped/warm and cosy We had a great time

We loved our stay at Botrea Hayloft, leaving the obvious 'destinations' to one side this part of West Cornwall is perhaps the most untouched and beautiful, never more so than the coast road from Botrea to St Ives which is simply stunning. The hayloft itself was perfect for our stay, super clean and very comfortable, the owners had been particularly thoughtful in making the hayloft an extremely welcoming place to stay. For eating out we would recommend No.2 Fore Street in Mousehole and The Gurnards Head on the aforementioned coastal road where we enjoyed particularly good food and wine.

Quietly located property, but highly accessible to all of Far West Cornwall. The owners have done a great job with the recent conversion of the hayloft and decorated it with local artwork. All in all, the perfect retreat for a couple.

Botrea Hayloft provided us with a luxurious 'escape'. Tucked away in a hidden valley, it managed to be completely off the beaten track and at the same time allow easy access to all that Penwith has to offer. The sea is only 10 minutes away in two directions (St Just - and fantastic coastal walking or Newlyn - amazing seafood) and there are wonderful walks from your door. Hosts have really put thought into making this a really comfortable, high quality retreat. Would love to return!

This is an excellent location for touring the far west of Cornwall. The hayloft is very comfortable and well fitted and the owners are welcoming and will ensure your stay is comfortable. An excellent place to relax.
