April 2024

Just spent a lovely week in 'The Blue Place'. A quirky and contemporary space which was very comfortable and clean. The views are stunning and watching the boats coming in and out of the harbour is wonderful! A short walk into Newlyn itself which has a variety of cafes, restaurants and independent shops. The walks along the front to Penzance and to Mousehole are very enjoyable too. A very relaxing stay! Thank you!

Holidays in Newlyn

Newlyn is a traditional Cornish fishing town which is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK. Stroll along the pretty harbourside and you’ll be able to spot beam trawlers, long liners, crabbers and small open boats used for hand-lining.

Experience the buzz of a thriving, hardworking harbour and taste the freshest fish on offer in Cornwall. The harbour is overlooked by white washed and granite Cornish fisherman’s cottages interwoven by narrow lanes and cobbled alleys often too steep or narrow for a car so all you will find is the odd cat basking in the sunshine. Enjoy the buzz of Newlyn’s working harbour, visit Newlyn Art Gallery or the wonderful established gardens with breath-taking views across to the iconic Penzance Jubilee Pool.

Locally caught seafood can be purchased from the bustling fish market, fishmongers or at one of the fantastic harbourside eateries. Escape to Newlyn for a self catering holiday in a peaceful setting, within easy reach of Mousehole, Penzance and St Michael’s Mount.

Top tip

Be sure to treat yourself to a Jelberts ice cream when staying in Newlyn!

Newlyn art community

The Newlyn School is a group of artists who came to live and work in Newlyn or the surrounding area between the 1880s and the early twentieth century. They painted en plein air (in the open air). Perhaps best known are: Stanhope Forbes, Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Harold Knight, Laura Knight, Harold Harvey. There is much documentation about the school at Penlee House.

The collection is kept at Penlee House rather than the Newlyn Gallery because Newlyn Gallery maintains a tradition of showing modern art.

Newlyn Gallery & Exchange Gallery in Penzance Town Centre host the best of conceptual and modern art. Together with St. Ives Tate and Penlee House the four galleries host major national and international exhibitions, as well as showing the work of the Newlyn School of Art, who offer a wide range of high quality art courses run by some of the most exciting artists in the region. Read more about art classes at Newlyn school of art on our blog. Thus the area which has inspired so many artists celebrates its artistic heritage while maintaining strong links with the art world of today.

Great base to stay and a nice property with a great view and parking.

Thank you!

This is our second stay at The Blue Place. Didn’t disappoint, it’s a fabulous location and only a short walk to Penzance and a 45 minute walk to Mousehole. Discovered another great local Pub which service only drink but had a fantastic atmosphere (The Bath Inn) and good selection of local beers and ciders. The traffic this time round didn’t seem as heavy or loud whether that because we expected? Overall a great property with lovely views and everything you need for your vacation.

The only challenge was getting the car on and off the drive but we've stayed before and it's not a deal breaker. Welcome pack was a pleasant surprise and ideal contents. Would recommend a larger bin in the kitchen and a bigger TV but didn't switch it on much. Fridge also a little compact when trying to get food and chill drinks so shopping involves multiple trips. Views are amazing and I'd recommend a visit to the restaurant Argoe in Newlyn and Lovett's wine bar. Ideal base for loads of really great coastal walks

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. With the property being located on a busy hill and the parking space only suiting small to medium sized cars, it can involve a little patience, so we try to highlight this as best as possible on the web description. We are pleased to hear it wasn't a deal breaker for you. Those views certainly make it all worthwhile! Thank you for your suggestions about the waste bin and fridge, your comments are automatically sent on to the property owner so that they can consider any suggestions for future improvements. Thanks also for the helpful recommendations for other guests. We hope to welcome you back to Newlyn soon. Lucy, Customer Services

This is our second stay here, we never go to the same place twice but we loved it here so much that we came back and it didn’t disappoint. Lovely comfy place to stay fabulous views, so many places to walk to. A tasty welcome basket starts your holiday off. Would highly recommend

Had a great stay in The Blue Place. Loved everything about it. Lovely space to be in with fantastic views. Very comfortable and well equipped. The welcome hamper was exceptional. A true unique boutique place for a couple.Having a car park space is a real bonus. We made use of excellent local places to eat drink and shop.

A lovely comfortable bright flat with fantastic views across Mounts Bay with its everchanging light and colours. Within walking distance of excellent restaurants and pubs, great fishmongers, a good fish and chip shop and the arthouse cinema and restaurant in Newlyn. Also close to the wonderful Newlyn school of art. Join the locals for a great bracing walk along the seafront to Penzance. You have a parking space (not easy to find in Newlyn), but you have to brave reversing on a very busy extremely steep hill and turn sharply through a narrow gate - not for the fainthearted during the rush hour!. The traffic can be noisy during the day and quietens down during the night, but it might be a bit noisy for light sleepers or those who want a lie in. However, we'd definitely come back (but would try and park elsewhere!)

It sounds like you made the most of all that Newlyn has to offer! Thanks so much for leaving a review and we hope you had a lovely stay. The parking is a huge bonus, with it being in such high demand here, but it may be a challenge for less confident drivers, and will not suit all vehicles, so we hope this was what you expected from the online description. Thanks again for your comments and we hope to welcome you back to The Blue Place in the future. Lucy, Customer Services

The Blue Place is excellent, well thought out and the views are brilliant, so much so we stayed in some evenings just to en joy them more. Definitely recommend it as the place to stay in Penzance.

Be careful parking if you have a large car, we found it easier to approach downhill and reverse over the road.

Nice location above the harbor, with views to match of the harbor and bay. All in all a good place to stay, plenty of eateries at the bottom of the road

Absolutely stunning views from lounge and balcony decking over looking the bay and Michaels Mount. If you have a large vehicle parking will be a problem and there is a lot of traffic noise from the busy road to the rear of the property. Otherwise an excellent bolt hole to explore this end of Cornwall.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for taking the time to send in your comments. The Blue Place is situation on a busy road, so we highlight this as best as possible on the web description, though it tends to be quite quiet at night. And you are quite right in saying that the parking space will be a problem for large vehicles, so it is only advertised as being suitable for small vehicles, or medium vehicles with the gates left open. The team are happy to provide further information on this, for anyone that is interested in booking and would like to check if it will be suitable beforehand. We hope that you had a great time, and that the fantastic standard of accommodation and those lovely views well and truly make up for some traffic noise at times. Customer Services

A good spot if you don't want to be in the middle of Penzance. The road outside is quite busy but goes quiet late on at night so doesn't disturb sleep. Good local shops and easy to get to the promenade into Penzance.

This was our third visit to The Blue Place and hopefully it will not be our last. Everything was as lovely as ever and a big plus was that the resurfacing of the road outside seems to have diminished the noise of the passing traffic. There is so much to do in the area and so much to see from the window...what more could you want!

The Blue Place was Great Comfortable & cosy..Great welcome basket with lots of Cornish goodies, Lovely views from lounge window...Everything there if you wanted to cook we did a few times ...Lovely comfortable bed .Great big shower ,all lovely & clean. Great to have a parking space, was a bit tight as we have a big car ,we reversed in ,that was best and left gates open all was good ...Road a bit narrow ,and Road noise at times...We will definitely come back in the future...

The location of the Blue place is ideal for short walks into Mousehole or Penzance. It has fantastic views of Newlyn harbour, the apartment has everything you need, comfortable bed nice bathroom with a second toilet. The drive way is very nice to have but very tight due to people parking opposite, the road it self is very busy at peek times and the speed the cars go up and down in the night makes the house vibrate. But that hasn’t put us off and we have booked to come back next year.

A fantastic holiday cottage in a great position in Newlyn. The view was absolutely stunning, we struggled to drag ourselves away from it! Comfortable and cosy, even in bad weather. Really comfy, fab decor, everything you need for a great holiday. Great to have a parking space, a good size for our Golf.
Some road noise as expected.

We loved this place, very spacious, fabulous views. Very comfortable. Road is busy but didn’t spoil it. It’s says parking for small vehicles but if you leave the gates open it’s no problem. We were in my husbands Peugeot Partner long wheel base van and we parked it with no trouble. Ideally situated for shops, lovely walks and the beach. Would definitely go back here.

The blue place is fantastic, the best place for our honeymoon. Private, picturesque, roomy, so clean, and a lovely welcome basket with everything we needed to get our holiday started. The view is exceptional especially if your a big fan of boats as the harbour is beautiful. A deluxe bathroom with huge shower. The kitchen has everything you need an more. The staff are amazing they helped sort a suprise hamper for my now husband. Nothing was to much trouble and they constantly kept me up to date.

We had a great time at the blue place, If you like a room with a view, this is it. If you enjoy seafood restaurants, you'll be spoilt for choice (but book), If you enjoy an outdoor heated pool, there's one within walking distance. If you fancy an open top bus ride to st Ives,it passes your door and its cheap as chips. I could go on but half the fun is finding what's available yourself.

Our stay at The Blue Place was excellent. The views are breathtaking and it has everything needed for a comfortable holiday for two. It is spotlessly clean and has a parking space which is a bonus in that area.

A lovely hamper was left for us upon our arrival and it is a space where you can truly unwind and relax, especially with the beautiful view to take in.

This is our second time staying there and we would definately book again and recommend to others.

We stayed at the Blue Place in Newlyn and can recommend future guests to stay there. Perfect for exploring west Cornwall. However there are two downsides 1) the parking space. You have to reverse your car onto a very busy road so caution should be taken. 2) Busy road so can be very noisy during the day and night and at times the building shook with the vibration.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your feedback. This property is on a busy road, so we try to make this as clear as possible on the website description. Some will find reversing into the space a little easier to negotiate than reversing out of it into traffic, so if you are ever to return, this may be worth bearing in mind. Whilst it is in a busy location, we hope that you agreed that it is a small compromise for such an amazing location, stunning views, and high quality of property. Tanya, Customer Services

Bring ear plugs to sleep

The blue place is a really lovely holiday home from home! Wonderful views and a very welcome basket of goodies. Our second stay and just as enjoyable as the first!

We had a great time at The Blue Place brilliantly positioned to get around and explore, the views are amazing I am missing them already! The welcome pack was such a lovely touch. Spotlessly clean and so well equipped what more could you ask for. Oh and the weather was kind to us too.

This was our second visit and we have already booked our next visit. This probably says it all!

Lovely property with great views across the bay, it was really clean, very well equipped, comfortable and the welcome basket of cornish goodies was lovely. Bit of traffic noise at certain times but that's to be expected as it is so close to the sea front and the parking for a small to medium car was a great bonus. Would definatley stay again.

Marvellous location and extremely nice house that's quite unique. Great views from the living area and the deck, and it's just a short walk to the harbour and all the pubs and restaurants. Everything works perfectly and it's well equipped for home cooking. Entertainment wise the TV will connect to Netflix etc if you have your personal account details. For two people it's perfect.

Beautiful accommodation with stunning views, within walking distance of Newlyn promenade perfect for early morning walks. Quality accommodation with everything you need for your stay. Outstanding welcome hamper full of local produce.

Lovely few days stay here for my husband’s birthday. Some traffic noise as expected as on a busy road , however, the veiws from the lounge windows made up for it . Spent hours just watching the boats come and go when the weather was a bit inclement, It was our second visit here! Amazing welcome hamper too !

Lovely, cosy, comfortable property. The views are amazing, whatever the weather. The driveway entrance is narrow, but after a few attempts it becomes easier! Short stroll into the village for great pubs, shops and restaurants. The walk into Penzance is scenic, however buses go into town and to Mousehole if required. Can’t wait to return.

This is a perfect holiday venue for anyone as interested in fishing trawlers as we are (we recommend the Marine Traffic app to add to your enjoyment!). The Blue Place is very comfortable and the view over the harbour and across Mount's Bay is spectacular in all weathers. The welcome pack is also spectacular and as guests arriving by public transport it really was welcome! Newlyn has three fish shops and a dedicated crab shop so is the perfect place for fish lovers. This is definitely the best venue we've found in Newlyn and we have already re-booked.

Great holiday at the Blue Place. Excellent presentation, very well equipped and furnished. Great views. Welcome hamper-the best we've had ! Very clean. Very comfortable. Some road noise, as described. Nice walk along the prom to Penzance, and the other direction to Mousehole. Lin&Pete.

A great location, walking distance into Penzance and Mousehole and bus stop nearby. We purchased a coastal bus hop on hop off pass for £28 each (runs every hour) and used this to discover the delights of the cornish coast! The Blue Place was amazing from watching the sun come up in the morning to looking at the fishing boats sailing in and out of the harbour was lovely.

The view was exceptional and never failed to please even on cloudier days. The walk up the hill could be a bit challenging for those less fit. We are active over 70s and found it OK. One of the reasons for our choice was the parking space but it can be a bit tricky at certain times because of traffic. My Mazda 3 fitted the space with the gates left open. The pleasant walk along the prom to Penzance was a part of our routine to access rail and bus sevices, another important factor in our choice. Two buses (we noticed) came through Newlyn. In short, met all our requirements.

We had a fantastic week staying at The Blue Place. The welcome hamper was a real treat, thank you. The views from the living room where stunning, never tired of the changing skies and boats coming in and out of the harbour. Enjoyed a couple of breakfasts on the decking and afternoon tea. Great spot to soak up the sun and views. Very comfortable bed and furnished to a high standard. Newlyn has some nice shops, especially the three fish mongers, cafe, cheese shop and ice cream parlour. Easy access to walk along the seafront to St.Michael’s Mount and Mousehole. We will be back.

We loved The Blue Place with the views over the harbour and terrific location! Such fun to watch the boats coming and going and we liked the narrow little lanes and alleys of Newlyn. The Cornish treats in the Welcome Basket were such a nice touch and we appreciated the great customer service at Aspects. A comfortable space, and well kitted out too. We'll definitely look forward to our next visit. Thanks again.

We have had a fabulous holiday at The Blue Place. Really well equipped with everything you could possibly need.. The views are amazing, ever changing views of harbour . Comfy beds, fab shower. The welcome hamper was really appreciated. The road was noisy. Parking a bit tight, but at least it did have off road parking. We would love to return, very chilled holiday.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, accommodation was very welcoming, well equipped and cosy and the views were amazing. Downside was the road noise. But that said we would book again, we look forward to returning to Newlyn.

We are super pleased to read that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay at The Blue Place and found the property very welcoming. The view certainly is amazing here! The compromise is that it is on a busy road, and as a result of previous feedback, we have included this within the property description so that guests should have a good expectation of this. We are glad that you agreed that it was a small price to pay for such a lovely property and it's great to hear that you would book again. We look forward to seeing you back. Lucy, Customer Services

The Blue Place & aspects holiday were excellent, the views are lovely, clear views of st micheals mount, close to most places popular to visit. We will be using Aspects Holidays again

Well equipped holiday home with amazing views over Newlyn Harbour and Mounts Bay.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Blue Place. The views are outstanding and the house is very well kitted out. Having parking in Newlyn is a must, but be aware that a vw golf will just fit, and no way are you closing the gates. We would definitely recommend this house to friends.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are glad that you enjoyed this great property. The parking space will fit a small to medium sized car but slightly larger if you leave the gates open, however, it is a little tight to turn into, so we have since made this a little clearer on the website description. We are glad that this still worked well for you and hopefully we will see you and your friends back soon. Lucy, Customer Services

We had a lovely week at Blue Place to celebrate a big birthday Newlyn is a lovely traditional fishing port far more real with less tourists than St Ives Thank you Aspects

It's a really great little apartment, with fabulous views, and is well equipped and very comfortable. It's a really good location for visiting anywhere in west Cornwall, and Newlyn feels much more like a real place than, for example, St Ives or Carbis Bay. Having visited the area many times in recent years and stayed in various apartments and B & B establishments, we have just returned from our 3rd visit to the Blue Place - and are highly likely to come again.

Amazing views from lounge window. very clean and well equipped. The welcome basket is really good with local produce. will feel using Aspect holidays again.

A beautiful property in an excellent location with stunning views. These more than offset the road noise and very slow Wifi. There is welcome on-site parking, but would be very tricky for large cars.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for taking the time to send in your comments; we are glad to hear that you liked The Blue Place and the stunning views. We are sorry to hear that the wifi was running slow during that week; that isn't something that we have ever had reported there before, so we will pass that information on to the property owner and keep a close eye on any further feedback; thanks for letting us know. We have amended the parking details slightly now as well, just to highlight that the space is more suitable for a small to medium size car, though it can fit larger if the gates are left open. Tanya, Customer Services

If you have chosen the Blue Place great decision. First class accommodation, very well equipped with comfortable bed and lovely linens and towels along with the fantastic view of Mount's Bay makes it a real winner. Walking distance from a great cafe, great restaurants and pubs and if you like fish very close to some fantastic fish mongers. What more could you want!

Everything! This is a beautifully decorated and well-equipped property with everything you could need for the most relaxing holiday. The views really are stunning and the location is perfect - Newlyn is a beautiful village with lovely people and a perfect jumping off point to explore this part of Cornwall. Do include a visit to the nearby Minack Theatre, you’ll be pleased you did. The Cornish welcome basket is a wonderful touch too! The off-street parking is a fantastic bonus. We really enjoyed our holiday at The Blue Place, it was a perfect place to unwind.

Accommodation was excellent, very clean. Outside seating area was good, with a good view towards the harbour and sea, very relaxing. Parking area was small but good that there was parking with the property. Our welcome hamper was a nice touch. Overall a good self catering property. Would stay there again.

What an awesome place to stay! The view across Mounts Bay is mesmerising. We loved every minute of our holiday and packed a lot in to our seven days, St. Michael’s Mount, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lizard Point, Land’s End and Holywell Bay were all easily accessible or just a short drive away, we’ve enjoyed coastal path walks too. Everything from the welcome basket on arrival to the end of our stay will be a memory of a lifetime. Thank you Aspects Holidays and The Blue Place.

Can not rate this place highly enough,me and the wife had an great time, place was clean, airy and very comfortable with views to die for, looking over to st michaels mount,we spent a lot of the time just looking out the windows of an evening.

Welcome basket was a lovely surprise and much appreciated after a long drive, bottle of prosecco, jam, biscuits, tea, coffe, bread and eggs.

Everything really easy to use, shower, oven, heating and the information folder was very helpful.

What else can i say,we loved it.

Aodan & Rae

Loved it. Great position and view over Newlyn. Easy base to explore the West of Cornwall on foot, by bus or car. Very well kitted out and a fantastic place to retreat from everyday life for a week.

Blue Place is a fantastic place to stay in terms of comfort, kit & location; walking up & down so many steep hills is apparently good for you ... But with easy access to so many good quality restaurants, this minor concern fades into obscurity!! Have visited twice already over Christmas & would definitely consider a third stay !!!
