Holidays in Newlyn

Newlyn is a traditional Cornish fishing town which is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK. Stroll along the pretty harbourside and you’ll be able to spot beam trawlers, long liners, crabbers and small open boats used for hand-lining.

Experience the buzz of a thriving, hardworking harbour and taste the freshest fish on offer in Cornwall. The harbour is overlooked by white washed and granite Cornish fisherman’s cottages interwoven by narrow lanes and cobbled alleys often too steep or narrow for a car so all you will find is the odd cat basking in the sunshine. Enjoy the buzz of Newlyn’s working harbour, visit Newlyn Art Gallery or the wonderful established gardens with breath-taking views across to the iconic Penzance Jubilee Pool.

Locally caught seafood can be purchased from the bustling fish market, fishmongers or at one of the fantastic harbourside eateries. Escape to Newlyn for a self catering holiday in a peaceful setting, within easy reach of Mousehole, Penzance and St Michael’s Mount.

Top tip

Be sure to treat yourself to a Jelberts ice cream when staying in Newlyn!

Newlyn art community

The Newlyn School is a group of artists who came to live and work in Newlyn or the surrounding area between the 1880s and the early twentieth century. They painted en plein air (in the open air). Perhaps best known are: Stanhope Forbes, Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Harold Knight, Laura Knight, Harold Harvey. There is much documentation about the school at Penlee House.

The collection is kept at Penlee House rather than the Newlyn Gallery because Newlyn Gallery maintains a tradition of showing modern art.

Newlyn Gallery & Exchange Gallery in Penzance Town Centre host the best of conceptual and modern art. Together with St. Ives Tate and Penlee House the four galleries host major national and international exhibitions, as well as showing the work of the Newlyn School of Art, who offer a wide range of high quality art courses run by some of the most exciting artists in the region. Read more about art classes at Newlyn school of art on our blog. Thus the area which has inspired so many artists celebrates its artistic heritage while maintaining strong links with the art world of today.

Excellent location for exploring Newlyn. We found it very easy to stay in and the use of the garden was excellent for our young dog. Parking was a bonus.

Comfortable, well equipped cabin in a large, well tended garden which is like a little oasis in amongst the narrow streets of Newlyn. Lovely, open view through the bi-fold doors. Parking was a real bonus

Two week stay at Meadow View: Newlyn is very quiet compared to other villages/towns nearby. It has some lovely pubs and restaurants - especially enjoyed Mackerel Skies and the Fisherman's Arms. The fishmongers down the road are great and Stevenson's also sells lovely bread. Newlyn and Penzance beach are safe for swimming and there are a lot of early local swimmers. Nice walk up to Polgoon vineyard with excellent wine. Using the buses was a really nice way to get around and do linear coastal walks.

Very pleasant stay in comfortable house -we would think about returning

Meadow View is in excellent location and has spacious parking space, although it might be very difficult for big cars to approach. You can sleep four, but bedrooms are too small for big beds. Nice comfortable lounge.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate you letting us know your thoughts following your stay at Meadow View. The route to the property may be unsuitable for larger vehicles so we try to make this as clear as possible on the website. We also try to include descriptions and photos of the compact bedrooms, so we do hope this was what you were expecting. We hope to welcome you back to Cornwall again soon. Katy, Customer Services.

In all the years we've been going to Cornwall. "Meadows View", Newlyn, is probably the nicest accommodation we've ever stayed at.

The accommodation is very well appointed, and with the most beautiful large secluded garden, giving nice views to the harbour and Mount's Bay.

Like other reviewers have mentioned. Accessing the property is very daunting. Steep climb up the road, with an acute turn onto the property. You need to hope there isn't another vehicle coming the other way. Not much better if you drive down the road either. That said. Once you're on the property. The parking is ample.

Not sure why. But there aren't any curtains or blinds up at the patio doors. Not a problem during the day. But would have been nice at night.

Also. Be careful with the hob extractor. Otherwise. You'll be bound to bang your head.

All in all though. "Meadow View" is a fabulous place to stay at. Apart from one or two relatively minor things. We cannot recommend the accommodation highly enough. With a fair wind and a bit of luck we'll be back. Kernow Bys Vyken!

Thank you for feedback, we are so pleased you had a lovely stay at Meadow View, and we appreciate all of your comments and suggestions.

The steep hill to the property may not be suitable for larger vehicles, so we try to make this as clear as possible on the property description as we know it is an important factor to take into consideration when booking a property. If you have any questions regarding access, please do get in touch before your stay and we'll be more than happy to assist.

We will certainly keep an eye on comments regarding the hob extractor moving forward, and your feedback regarding this and the blinds/curtains has automatically been passed along to the property owner to take into consideration for future improvements. We look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon! Katy, Customer Services.

Lovely cottage enjoyed our holiday there very much definitely would like to go again garden keep neat and tidy view great we really had a chilled out holiday. Just be careful of the kitchen extra fan hood rather low easy to bump your head on

Had a lovely week in this property. Adequately equipped and with views to die for ! Lovely large garden for us and our pooch to enjoy ?? .Care needed when entering and exiting the lane but not a problem, we have a Kia Niro for comparison if that helps . Two pubs close by . The Red Lion is an earthy locals pub with good food and the Fisherman’s Arms a little further up the hill is a new more upmarket pub with a good varied menu and great views. There is also a well stocked coop down the road. Nice flat walk into Penzance , and a taxi back is about £8 .Will definitely return .

Loved Meadow View. Will defo book again.
Comfort was good, very clean, good bike storage, loved all of it.

Very useful to have a parking space. Some terrific restaurants in Newlyn - a good base.

A lovely quiet location with lovely views overlooking the bay. The large garden is well maintained. The property is not suitable for to people who are infirm due to the steep lane and steps down to the property. Not suitable for large cars. Fine for a small car driven with caution.

A beautiful cottage in a fabulous setting! A short walk to to the harbour to buy fresh fish is a must! Penzance is not to far to walk either with shops and restaurants. The entrance and exit along the drive and road is a bit tricky but is manageable as long as you don’t have anything bigger than a Mokka or you might find it difficult. Would definitely book again!

A lovely, airy property with beautiful gardens, overlooking Newlyn harbour. Probably best for one couple, owing to limited clothes storage in the bedrooms, although the living-room is big enough for 4. Good dining options in Newlyn - Mackerel Sky Bar, The Tolcarne Inn, and some lovely cafes and food shops. Penzance is a short walk away along the prom, and there is a good bus service into Mousehole (although it's only a half-hour walk), and on the open-top double decker Coaster which goes all around the Penwith peninsula.

We had a lovely week in Newlyn, the accommodation being exactly as described, quiet, beautiful views of the bay, gorgeous garden, well appointed and thought through accommodation. I’d recommend it. The approach is tight, don’t go with a huge gas guzzler tractor type car!

Meadow View is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy in a good location. Huge bonus is the Private parking. Good size property with great views over St Michaels Mount. It has a wood burner which is fantastic for cosy evenings. Beds very comfortable. Fantastic shower. Very much like Meadow View it really is a wonderful place to stay. I look forward in returning. Aspects Holidays were professional, good and very easy to deal with - you done good with this one :)

Lovely hidden away property in the hilly back lanes of Newlyn. Views over the Harbour and towards St Michaels Mount … Downhill 10 minute stroll to the town
Comfortable and lovely stylish living space , well equipped kitchen. Bathroom had a lovely shower The property was quite hard to access with luggage as we had to carry everything down several gravelled steps from the parking space then across the lawn with further steps up to the front door . Also not convinced it would accommodate 2 couples for sleeping arrangement as the bedrooms were very comfortable but small in size with limited space for luggage ,clothes storage and dressing space but would happily stay just as a couple at Meadow View again

We are glad that you enjoyed this lovely property. Given its tucked away location and making the most of those lovely views, the access may not suit everyone, so the path and steps are worth considering and being prepared for. We note these to highlight that it may not suit those with limited mobility, but is certainly worth bearing in mind that you will need to carry luggage up them on arrival and departure. With its 2 double bedrooms, it can comfortably sleep 4, and has enough seating in the living and dining area for full occupancy, but the amount of space in the property may not work for all parties of 4 if you prefer more space and storage. For others though, the amazing location, views and beautiful outside area, far outweigh any compromise of space. We have tried to show the space and seating/sleeping arrangements and access/steps as clearly as we can within the website photos and description, so we do hope that this was all as you had expected. Thank you for taking the time to send in your comments and we hope that you enjoyed your time here. Tanya, Customer Services

Lovely property. One level in a gorgeous position up above the harbour. Not for the infirm at all. Steep Rd to property if walking and very tight turns for car access . Bonus is there's a parking plot for 2 cars. One bedroom has no wardrobe so you need to share the other small space in other room. I have mentioned this in my feedback though so hopefully owner will make a change. Great for 2 people but for 4 its limited but doable . Fabulous main window bifolding door in living space that opens fully to the fab sea views over St Michaels mount. Quiet and relaxing. Few quirks that need fixing which I've mentioned but all in all its a beautiful place to stay. Laundry room underneath property , patio and table x6 chairs etc and outside showers for washing down after the beach . Good for furry froend too. Our little dog loved the huge garden. Parking on private Rd and steps down to the property which light up at night. Recommended for anyone not on stick or infirm. Lovely stay . Thank you
