Holidays in Newlyn

Newlyn is a traditional Cornish fishing town which is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK. Stroll along the pretty harbourside and you’ll be able to spot beam trawlers, long liners, crabbers and small open boats used for hand-lining.

Experience the buzz of a thriving, hardworking harbour and taste the freshest fish on offer in Cornwall. The harbour is overlooked by white washed and granite Cornish fisherman’s cottages interwoven by narrow lanes and cobbled alleys often too steep or narrow for a car so all you will find is the odd cat basking in the sunshine. Enjoy the buzz of Newlyn’s working harbour, visit Newlyn Art Gallery or the wonderful established gardens with breath-taking views across to the iconic Penzance Jubilee Pool.

Locally caught seafood can be purchased from the bustling fish market, fishmongers or at one of the fantastic harbourside eateries. Escape to Newlyn for a self catering holiday in a peaceful setting, within easy reach of Mousehole, Penzance and St Michael’s Mount.

Top tip

Be sure to treat yourself to a Jelberts ice cream when staying in Newlyn!

Newlyn art community

The Newlyn School is a group of artists who came to live and work in Newlyn or the surrounding area between the 1880s and the early twentieth century. They painted en plein air (in the open air). Perhaps best known are: Stanhope Forbes, Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Harold Knight, Laura Knight, Harold Harvey. There is much documentation about the school at Penlee House.

The collection is kept at Penlee House rather than the Newlyn Gallery because Newlyn Gallery maintains a tradition of showing modern art.

Newlyn Gallery & Exchange Gallery in Penzance Town Centre host the best of conceptual and modern art. Together with St. Ives Tate and Penlee House the four galleries host major national and international exhibitions, as well as showing the work of the Newlyn School of Art, who offer a wide range of high quality art courses run by some of the most exciting artists in the region. Read more about art classes at Newlyn school of art on our blog. Thus the area which has inspired so many artists celebrates its artistic heritage while maintaining strong links with the art world of today.

Copperfish is a beautifully renovated, well appointed, very comfortable house. There is parking outside which is rare in Newlyn! The Copper fish is absolutely beautiful loved everything about it we would definitely return. 100%credit to the owners

Beautiful house in lovely location - homely and comfortable with everything we needed. Although no private parking this was never a problem as plenty of roadside parking. Weather was a bit hit and miss so we spent many happy evenings in the house and is was perfect. Walking distance to the local bars , restaurants etc although steep climb back up hill Would love to go back to Copperfish

What a lovely cottage, it was just as shown on Aspect Holidays website. The milk in the fridge and the chocolate brownies were a lovely surprise. Everything was of the highest standards. It was beautifully decorated throughout. We absolutely loved the fairy lights in the lounge. It was a wonderful property and was ideal for 4 adults and a 14yr old. Would definitely return and will recommend to family and friends.

Well appointed comfortable house which I would stay in again. Beds, duvets, towels and bathroom all to a very high standard, especially for the price. Easy to park outside and you can venture out on foot to cafes, pubs the coast etc. Downside is its a the top of a steep hill and the in a non tourist area.

We all enjoyed our stay at Copper fish in newlyn. It had everything we needed to a comfortable stay as a family of four there was a lovely chip shop in the village and you must try the ice cream shop but only does vanilla it is something else. It really is a remarkable coastline where from East Anglia we also have a lovely coast line but Cornwall is something else. We also had a day out to the isle of scilly which I would highly recommend.

Great place to stay. Convenient for places to eat in Newlyn. Parking usually available 0utside.

A great property, extremely comfortable, fantastic beds, well stocked kitchen and an enclosed back yard for dogs. Excellent view from one room across Mount's Bay to St Michael's Mount. A few finishing touches needed in certain areas such as latch on gate to property and toilet roll holder on ground floor. Wet room drain in shower was blocked when we arrived, which resulted in water coming through into kitchen below. Probably needs regular inspections. Aspects was quick to resolve it. Location not ideal of half way up a steep hill.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are glad that you enjoyed your time there and thank you for those suggestions of the latch and toilet roll holder. We have passed those on to the property owner. We were sorry to hear that the shower drain blocked while you were there, but so glad that it got resolved quickly for you. To really get the benefit of those lovely views over the rooftops, there is a bit of a hill, but we hope that you agree, is completely worth it once inside this lovely property. Tanya, Customer Services

What a fantastic property! All you need for a family stay is provided and we loved it, beds so comfortable, fantastic quality linen and towels. Superb location and will come again.

Copperfish is an excellent property and a lovely cottage for a family holiday. The cottage has been renovated to an excellent standard and is immaculately clean. Lovely views of the harbour from the back bedroom and great outside space to enjoy your evenings. I would whole-heartedly recommend.
