As the warm glow of the morning sun rises across Mounts Bay, and the gentle waves ripple across to the pebbled shore, the promise of a sun-drenched day ahead can be enjoyed from the comfort of your pillow. With panoramic views across to St Michael's Mount and The Lizard, Carrington House is set within a perfect location. For the art lovers, Newlyn Art Gallery is just a few steps away and for families, a gentle stroll along the promenade takes you to the play park by the sea and Jubilee Pool; the Art Deco lido and geothermally heated pool. As the evening draws in and the daylight is lost, after an exhausting day exploring, and the little ones are cosily tucked up within the crisp white linens, grab a glass of your favourite tipple, relax and unwind on the mood lit, decked terrace.

Newlyn's busy fishing port has an eclectic mix of art galleries and the finest eateries. You will be spoilt for choice for places to dine within a short walking distance from Carrington House. The finest, freshly caught fish cuisine is served at The Tolcarne Inn just around the corner and the very popular Mackerel Sky providing delicious tapas fish dishes, is also close by. With Newlyn Filmhouse, an independent cinema with a cafe/bar, the medieval themed Newlyn Meadery family restaurant, The Bridge; a Mediterranean restaurant serving mouth-watering tapas and pizzas, a fabulous fish and chip shop and the infamous Jelbert's ice cream shop, there will be so much for all the family to enjoy. A coastal walk and visit to the neighbouring picturesque Mousehole is a must and you don't have to travel too far by car to enjoy The Minack Theatre with the most amazing sunsets, Porthcurno Beach with its white sand and turquoise sea and surfing lessons at Sennen Cove. Carrington House is ideally situated for a wonderful holiday and to make the happiest of memories, for a long time to come.

Holidays in Newlyn

Newlyn is a traditional Cornish fishing town which is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK. Stroll along the pretty harbourside and you’ll be able to spot beam trawlers, long liners, crabbers and small open boats used for hand-lining.

Experience the buzz of a thriving, hardworking harbour and taste the freshest fish on offer in Cornwall. The harbour is overlooked by white washed and granite Cornish fisherman’s cottages interwoven by narrow lanes and cobbled alleys often too steep or narrow for a car so all you will find is the odd cat basking in the sunshine. Enjoy the buzz of Newlyn’s working harbour, visit Newlyn Art Gallery or the wonderful established gardens with breath-taking views across to the iconic Penzance Jubilee Pool.

Locally caught seafood can be purchased from the bustling fish market, fishmongers or at one of the fantastic harbourside eateries. Escape to Newlyn for a self catering holiday in a peaceful setting, within easy reach of Mousehole, Penzance and St Michael’s Mount.

Top tip

Be sure to treat yourself to a Jelberts ice cream when staying in Newlyn!

Newlyn art community

The Newlyn School is a group of artists who came to live and work in Newlyn or the surrounding area between the 1880s and the early twentieth century. They painted en plein air (in the open air). Perhaps best known are: Stanhope Forbes, Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Harold Knight, Laura Knight, Harold Harvey. There is much documentation about the school at Penlee House.

The collection is kept at Penlee House rather than the Newlyn Gallery because Newlyn Gallery maintains a tradition of showing modern art.

Newlyn Gallery & Exchange Gallery in Penzance Town Centre host the best of conceptual and modern art. Together with St. Ives Tate and Penlee House the four galleries host major national and international exhibitions, as well as showing the work of the Newlyn School of Art, who offer a wide range of high quality art courses run by some of the most exciting artists in the region. Read more about art classes at Newlyn school of art on our blog. Thus the area which has inspired so many artists celebrates its artistic heritage while maintaining strong links with the art world of today.

Very comfortable property with a stunning location. Easy access to local shops, restaurants, cinema and local buses. Would definitely book this property again.

Carrington house is in a superb position, the views are fantastic. This house has everything you need for a great holiday. The area has lovely cafes especially Duke street and in the Cinema, up the hill right from the junction. Plenty of Pubs five minutes walk away and shops for all your needs. We visited the fresh fish shops around the corner many times. The walk in to Mousehole is lovely as is the Sunday roast at the Ship inn. Walking the other way you are soon in Penzance with plenty of variety, shops, cafes and pubs. Would really recommend this property.

This is a beautiful house in an amazing location. Newlyn has much to offer; pubs, restaurants, shops, cafes, supermarket, galleries and cinema. Being able to walk into Penzance and Mousehole was also a great bonus. We will be back!

Great location, spacious cottage and bus stops only minutes away and frequent buses. Good local restaurants nearby, and enough shops to get everything one would need. Great panoramic view of Mounts Bay from bedroom window.

Comfortable & clean property with a great view. Prepare for finding a parking place, fortunately we found off road parking.

I'll keep this short, we visit Cornwall regularly and this is the best house we've stayed at!

Had a really enjoyable stay. The outstanding thing for us was the location, literally a stones throw from the sea. The walk (or jog) along the promenade into Penzance was delightful at any time of day. Everything you could want is close at hand, restaurants, shops etc without venturing far but this property is ideally placed for discovering this lovely corner of Cornwall further afield. No complaints at all about the property or the booking arrangements. We will re-book for another holiday.

Carrington house is a little gem, spotless clean, quality furnishing very comfy, couldn't fault this house and highly recommend its a no brainer get your holiday booked at Carrington House, it's a superb place, a big thank you to aspect holidays we will be back soon Paul and mary.

Carrington House is tastefully decorated, comfortable and well equipped. The position by Newlyn green and overlooking Mounts Bay and St. Michaels Mount is beautiful. Sitting in bed of a morning with a cup of tea and looking out at such a wonderful view is outstanding. Hope to make a return visit before too long.

Just returned from a week staying at Carrington House. Three adults and one child. Wow, such an amazing property and the views well exceeded our expectations. The photos do not show what a superb view you get, especially from the bedroom. Much larger than expected and beautifully furnished. Spotlessly clean throughout the property with super beds and quality bedding. There is outside space with decking, and we spent many an evening sitting outside late in to the evening drinking wine and relaxing. A very special place to stay and we felt very lucky to find it. Although no parking at the property, we were able to easily park very close to the property throughout the week. Would love to stay again, although I think it will book up really quickly.
