Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Enjoy harbour views and artisan foods at Mousehole Deli & kitchen, afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room or sit down for an evening meal at 2 Fore Street, a French bistro-style restaurant on Mousehole harbour front. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Visit at Christmas and experience the magical Mousehole Lights display!

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

Our third stay at The Barn. Beautiful, comfortable, spotlessly clean cottage, highly recommended.

The Barn is a beautiful quirky cottage in a great location between Mousehole and Paul. It is spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. It is equipped with everything you could need for a fantastic holiday. The lovely outdoor seating areas and the parking space are an added bonus and there is a lovely summer house too. The only downside is the steep hill down into Mousehole and the number of steps inside the property. However if you are fairly fit these shouldn’t be a problem. Highly recommend this property, we had a fantastic holiday there .

We are glad that you enjoyed your time here at this lovely property. Most of the traditional Cornish fishing villages are known for the steep hills that come with such locations, so it is something that is not specific to The Barn, but something to bear in mind when booking any property in such a location. We appreciate that this, and the number of steps in the property may not suit everyone, so we try to make this as clear as possible on the website photos and descriptions, but the bookings team are always happy to answer any questions and discuss the suitability of any property before booking, so please do not hesitate to contact us. Loved our stay, fabulous property and location

Beautiful location and The Barn is perfect! Stunning decor and kitchen and the views are incredible!

My wife and I have just returned from a perfect two weeks at the Barn. The property was excellent everything we needed for our two weeks was available in the Barn. The parking space was a real bonus. Already booked for 2024

Well equipped, comfortable holiday home for our fortnight's stay in Mousehole. Good space and storage facilities for the two of us. Great location only a 5-minute walk downhill to the harbour, with easy access to the coastal paths in both directions. Regular bus service from the harbour to Newlyn and Penzance, currently only £5 / adult for a 1-day all Cornwall ticket! Unfortunately, due to some house building work close by, although the contractors were not noisy, a two-storey container did restrict our sea view from the house. Amazing to be able to have our breakfast outside (on most days) on the front balcony, and an evening drink in the garden at the back in the sunshine. Perfect outdoor space. Fortunate to have its own off-street parking space as these are few and far between in Mousehole! The few issues which we did have were swiftly resolved following phone calls to Aspects Holidays, and they informed us when they had been actioned. Efficient communication. Overall we experienced an enjoyable and action-packed holiday. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on your stay at The Barn. We are so pleased that you had a lovely stay, and that you made the most of the great weather we were having by exploring the local area! We are ever so sorry that that there was some building work being carried out further on down the road during your stay, with a slightly impacted view from some containers, but it is good news that the noise was kept to a minimum throughout so you could enjoy the front balcony. We also do appreciate you getting in touch during your stay to make us aware of an error with the bed configuration, so that this could be rectified swiftly. We very much hope we can welcome you back to Cornwall again soon. Katy, Customer Service.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Barn which was very clean and well furnished with comfortable sofa and chairs, very comfortable bed, piping hot shower and sea views. The parking space was a big bonus. Hope to return soon.

This is a lovely house in a brilliant location and very nicely decorated. The parking space is a rare find and made life so much easier. A couple of words of advice if you are cooking for yourselves the kitchen is well equipped but it lacks a couple of large saucepans for pasta etc. Plus both toilets are on the ground level and there are quite a few stairs. Minor things but handy to know about. We will certainly book again as we loved the house.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at The Barn, it really is a wonderful place to unwind and relax, isn't it?! And the allocated parking space is a definite bonus. We haven't had this feedback regarding the kitchen equipment before, but we will be sure to pass this along to the property owner. We do try to provide as much detail as possible in the property description, so that guests have an idea of the layout before they arrive, including the amount of steps leading to each room, but we are sorry if this wasn't clear. We hope to welcome you back soon! Katy, Customer Services.

Lovely cottage in a lovely village. The Christmas lights were amazing. Great to have a parking space.

The Barn exceeded expectations, very well appointed, well furnished and very comfortable bed. The thoughtful welcome pack on arrival was much appreciated. Excellent location a short stroll from the harbour. We've already booked for a return visit ! Also Aspect holidays were very helpful when we had a couple of small queries.

Lovely location, a real bonus having parking particularly in Mousehole.

Beautiful property with close proximity to village. Nicely furnished and plenty of equipment. Nice to receive welcome pack of scones, jam and cream. Would definitely stay again but would bring dog gate to keep dog escaping .

We were lucky enough to stay at the barn for 2 weeks at the beginning of the summer holidays, not only did it surpass all our expectations but it really was a home from home.

The property is beautifully furnished throughout with all the mod cons, fantastic wifi connection and a lovely garden and patio area to watch the world go by.

As we stayed for 2 weeks we were lucky enough to fully explore the surrounding areas, beaches, pubs and restaurants - all based off Amy’s great local knowledge.

Our personal favourite beach was Sennen Cove but we would always come back for an evening swim in the harbour too! I would definitely recommend Rock pool cafe and the old coastguard, both of which are a short walk into Mousehole.

We can’t wait to go back :)

Fabulous holiday and wonderful accommodation. Steps leading down to the property are slate and in the dark it can be difficult to see the definition of each step.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thanks for your helpful feedback. The access in the dark is definitely something worth being prepared for when you arrive. There are several properties that we manage, that due to factors like location, we would recommend bringing a torch if you are arriving in the dark. The Barn is one of those properties where we include this suggestion in the arrival details, to help with negotiating the access. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed this lovely property, and we hope to see you back here soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Wonderful property and village.

Really great property, just a short walk down the hill to harbour, great for a swim. House well equipped and comfortable. Gorgeous garden. Big parking space, garden outhouse for really useful for storing our bikes. Nice quiet location for a relaxing holiday.

A wonderful, well equipped and cosy base to explore the magnificent Cornish coastline.

The Barn was the perfect spot for our family getaway. With views of the sea but slightly out of the village and with private parking, it was the perfect spot. It’s a short 5 minute stroll down the hill into the hubbub of beautiful Mousehole where it’s every bit as pretty and welcoming as other people’s pictures and reviews led me to believe!

The Barn is stylish and comfortable with plenty of room to feel like you can unpack and relax for the week in a place that feels home from home - but with sea views! We cooked lots at the kitchen was great but also enjoyed several of the restaurants and cafes in town. There are lovely gift shops and galleries which were all unfailingly welcoming. It’s also the perfect spot from which to head out and enjoy places like Lands End, Sennen Cove, Penzance, St Michael’s Mount, St Ives and much more.

We had a really fabulous week in Mousehole staying at The Barn, it is a lovely property, very well thought through. A real bonus having a parking space & outside seating, we managed a couple of sundowner G&T's even though it was early April! Only a short stroll into Mousehole, we also made use of the Lands End cruiser bus route through Sheffield only a 15 minute walk up the hill. Sky TV was useful and well equipped kitchen. Very happy with the service from Aspects Holidays also. Highly recommend.

Well equipped, comfortable property. Easy walk down to Mousehole harbour, good location for visiting the South West of Cornwall.

The property was very well situated and it was great to have a parking space, which is rare in Mousehole. It was great to be able to see the sea while eating breakfast outside. All very clean and well equipped

I have just returned from my second visit to The Barn and I enjoyed it very much. The property is modern light and well equipped. Very suitable for a couple and/or with children aged 6+. Nice location in a classic Cornish fishing village close to lovely walks and good food. Good useable outside spaces. Off-street parking a real bonus. Highly recommended - I will be making a third visit as soon as I can!

Great location. Beautifully decorated, very clean and homely. House is on 4 levels, 2-5 steps between levels. Half way between Paul and Mousehole.

The Barn is a great property in Mousehole. Great location, parking space, sea views and really comfy. Facilities are great and from the moment we arrived we relaxed. Half way up the hill going out to Paul which is great to walk out exploring the area in either direction ??

Very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a great location, and comes with the bonus of a parking space in this lovely seaside village.

The Barn is a tastefully decorated and well furnished property in an excellent location. It benefits from 2 outside seating areas and a parking space making it a very special property in Mousehole.

A lovely house refurbed to an excellent standard. It had great views out to sea and was only a 5 minute walk to the harbour. The house had a lovely quirky layout, although the downstairs bedroom was quite small

A lovely little stay in Mousehole. The Barn was decorated beautifully and we could tell the thought that had gone into decorating the house. We would 100% stay here again, location was great for Mousehole and catching the bus the bus to further away towns.

We loved The Barn from the moment we arrived. It's clean, well equipped and it's so obvious that a lot of love and care has gone into the decor/things placed around to make it homely. The beds were the most comfortable i have ever slept in in a holiday cottage. The garden at the side of the property was lovely with a little summer house. Even that had been made cosy inside with candles etc. Having a parking space in Mousehole is a huge bonus. A couple of minutes walk through the pretty streets leads you to the harbour and beach. Highly recommend this property. We certainly will be back.

The barn was slightly smaller than properties we have rented in the past but it was comfortable, bright and spacious. It was clean and well finished with a good selection of fixtures and fittings. We found it a bit strange having the kitchen on a lower level to the sitting room but that's probably because we live in a house with a traditional layout. It didn't affect our experience though. The back garden was lovely for sitting out when the sun shone and we were serenaded with bird song most of the time.

A lovely comfortable cottage, spotless and having a sea view plus our own parking outside the door was a bonus. We slept so well as it was so quiet at all times, and beds are the best we have had even in top hotels.

D & D

The Barn, didn't disappoint in anyway. It was modern, but still felt cosy, with great views of the sea, and I saw every shade of blue to grey there was. Everything was there I needed for a short break, the kitchen was well equipped and clean, although i did bring a lot from home, just in case due to Covid. The lounge had great views towards the sea in the horizon, so managed to great some great views of the Supermoon (pink). Nice walk to the harbour, and local shops, and not far either to a local pub The Kings Arms...never manged to get there, as it was really popular and the outdoor tables were always taken. Great little garden with garden furniture and a cute Summer house, it was a bonus to sit out and enjoy the great weather that I had. Good bedding and comfortable bed, loved the shower room ensuite , and also the main shower room too.

Thank you for the lovely treats, that was really a nice touch, as I wasn't expecting that. As a single female traveller, I felt safe which is really important to me ! Tried to book the cottage again for later in the year...but all booked, so will try for 2022 ...Cheers Amy & Charles for making this place a home from home !

The Barn was a wonderful location for our family holiday. Everything had been really well thought out. The house was clean and comfortable and a short walk from lovely Mousehole. I would certainly recommend it!

Very easy to book, and good onward process behind the booking. Always very welcoming and accessible if any issues.
