A lovely quiet spot to relax and unwind. We had a lovely autumnal holiday in October and with rain and a chill in the air we enjoyed our days out and then came back to this cosy cottage and put the fire on. This is the second time we have been to Penrose Cottage and we will definitely book again. Absolutely delightful!!

October 2023

Comfortable, nicely-decorated cottage in a peaceful location. Lovely garden; just a shame the weather wasn’t up to sitting outside very often! Friendly neighbours as well (not always the case with a rental cottage!)

Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Enjoy harbour views and artisan foods at Mousehole Deli & kitchen, afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room or sit down for an evening meal at 2 Fore Street, a French bistro-style restaurant on Mousehole harbour front. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Visit at Christmas and experience the magical Mousehole Lights display!

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

We had a wonderful stay at Penrose Cottage in the first half of September 2023 with a surprisingly fine weather. It was a very good base for our several outdoor activities in a wonderful landscape, i.e. stunning walks on the South West Coast Path.

My family and I have stayed at Penrose Cottage a few times now and it never fails to disappoint. The cottage is warm and welcoming, fully stocked with everything needed to make a self catering holiday an easy one! The house is nicely decorated and the garden, looked after by the loveliest neighbour, is beautiful! The view over Mounts Bay and St Michael’s Mount from the bottom of the garden is a very pleasant sight. The house is in a perfect location to leave the car behind and walk into Mousehole. We very much enjoyed our family holiday at Penrose Cottage this year and WILL be back again!

Lovely, well equipped cottage with beautiful garden. Parking never an issue for us, only confusion we had was where the correct bins were located for the cottage (not numbered) but overcame ?? would recommend this cottage, provided you can drive.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you very much for your review, it was great to see how much you enjoyed your stay at Penrose Cottage. We were sorry to see that there was some confusion regarding the bins, though it sounds like you did the right thing for collection. We'll be sure to see if there is anything further we can add to the property information sheet to make this a little clearer. We are glad that you were able to park with ease during your stay at the cottage and hope that it won't be long before you're back in the future. Ben, Customer Services.

Had a lovely two weeks in Penrose cottage. Garden was quiet and very peaceful. The kitchen is very small but fantastically well equipped. The whole house is actually, couldn't fault it. The waterfall shower was something else.

The Internet speed was nearly 30mb which was good for streaming. Nobody ever mentions this in reviews but its an important detail when you're staying in the countryside and want to plan your days out!

The walk down to Mousehole is via Rd, do not take the footpath, it was a wild experience. Wander to the local pub in Paul in the evening for a drink and listen to the birds and breeze.

With years of experience of holidaying in Cornwall we felt it had just lost something. No problems with our cottage, it was a great base for getting out and about, with a great pub, the Kings Arms a 10 minute walk and Mousehole 25 minutes walk. Coming back up the hill was though.

We had a lovely week at Penrose Cottage, really enjoyed the garden, so nice to have outside space

Wonderful week spent at Penrose Cottage, even if it did rain non-stop (I would happily pay extra for guaranteed sunshine :)).

The cottage is wonderful and we enjoyed our stay very much. Very clean, homely, well equipped and in an amazing location with lovely sea views and of St. Michael’s Mount.

Great value for money (compared to others) in a quiet little Hamlet with scenic walks in either direction or a short drive to Sandy beaches with crashing waves.

Would recommend to anyone taking the time to read this review!

Absolutely the most perfect stay at Penrose cottage. All aspects, whether location or the property itself with all the amenities you would ever need. Spacious & very comfortable. September great time for numerous blackberry pickings & yummy homemade pie & puddings!! We have had one of the best holidays ever & we come to Cornwall every year but our first BUT not last to Penrose. Thank you all x

Penrose Cottage exceeded our expectations. A delightful, character property, full of original features and charm yet with a high-end finish and high quality facilities and amenities. Perfectly located for accessing Mousehole and Newlyn, a short drive from outstanding beaches and countryside, and a delightfully quiet retreat to come back to after a busy day out (yet with an excellent pub just a short walk away)! We will return.

Lovely cottage, weather, surroundings, garden etc. This was our 5th visitand we're back again next year

Lovely, compact cottage, ideal for two. Great to have two "conservatories", East and West - best of both worlds with sun in the morning at breakfast and in the evening after a good day out! Very pretty, private garden with meandering pathways, several seating areas and a little suntrap at the far end with a sea view to boot! Appeared to have been professionally planned. Amazing array of plants but missed the raspberries as they had been raided by the birds :) Nice circular walk into Mousehole (steep return via Ragginis) and easy access to main road route to visit the SW and nip into Penzance. Loved the shower, the large, fluffy white bath sheets and all the extras provided. Bed very comfortable and bed linen of good quality. Plenty of kit in the kitchen. Within walking distance of the Kings Arms. We had a lovely summer stay at Penrose and feel that this cottage would also provide a welcome winter break too, especially with the woodburner.

Lovely cottage and garden in a quiet and pretty location.

Penrose is a beautiful home , relaxing in and outside . Amazing views over to the Lizard and Cudden point . Lovely walks abound from there.

Best of Best love Cornwall love Aspects hate going home after great holiday . xx

A beautiful, well equipped cottage, in a peaceful location, but not too far to travel to explore the wonderful Cornish coast. Sadly due to the mixed weather during our stay we were unable to enjoy the lovely garden. The welcoming Cava, scones, jam, cream and milk were a surprise and much appreciated.

Would recommend Aspects, have now booked several holidays with them without problem and pleased as usual with the accommodation

Penrose cottage is wonderful. Wonderful walks and bike rides on the door step. Bus stop round the corner, catch the bus to Landsend and walk the amazing coastpath back to Mousehole and then up the road to Penrose. Such a super home to relax in.

Penrose Cottage is a lovely, homely and comfortable, well appointed property just outside the small village of Paul, uphill from Mousehole. It has a lovely garden with a sea view at the bottom of it. We loved the time spent there and it’s an excellent base for discovering what west Cornwall has to offer.

Top service The houses are very clean and everything you need. Roll on next time.

Good location for getting around the area. Well presented updated traditional terraced cottage, nice garden, Stairs a bit steep. Overall Excellent choice.

We loved staying at this cottage- I can’t fault it. So charming, well equipped clean and comfortable. The background heating added to the comfort of our stay. A big plus is the way the garden has different ‘ rooms’ so one can choose the best place for the weather conditions; also having two conservatories: one for morning, another to catch the evening sun. We would gladly visit again.

Excellent cottage, well presented with plenty of nice internal features, garden and quiet areas to relax, eat and enjoy a drink.

Very pleasant cottage, with a beautiful garden.

Had a fabulous stay at Penrose Cottage. Extremely well equipped with a beautiful garden. Stroll down to Mousehole through Paul took around 30 minutes. Perfect location for exploring the South West coastal path. We would not hesitate to return. Thank you for the welcome goodies

Exceeded expectations. The garden was fabulous and immaculately kept. Inside it struck a good balance between homely and stylish - the woodburner was particularly welcome. It was nice that we arrived to some goodies - biscuits and bubbly especially so.

Lovely cottage - very clean and welcoming. Well equipped and good location. Really enjoyed our stay. Couldn’t take advantage of beautiful garden due to poor weather but would definitely recommend and we would certainly come back again

This cottage is very cosy and even in autumn the garden is still nice to wander down through to see the fantastic sea views at the bottom.

A very comfortable and well equipped cottage with lots of room for two people. A very quiet location with a lovely garden with seating areas and a distant view of the sea. We never had any problem parking in the lane quite close to the cottage (it's not possible to park next to it except temporarily for loading and unloading). Situated on the hill up above Mousehole (which can be reached quickly by road or a 40 min walk across fields). We would stay here again.

Fantastic stay at penrose nice and relaxing everything you need is there, great place to relax and unwind....

A lovely time at Penrose cottage, been back multiple times. Lovely neighbours

We adored our stay in this beautiful cottage. The house is extremely comfortable and well equipped and unlike many holiday properties, the furnishings and appliances and saucepans etc are all of a very high quality. The garden is a stunning haven of tranquility with lovely flowers, wonderful views and sweet scents. All the little details have been thought of throughout the property. It was spotlessly clean, the beds were comfortable and everything worked. The location is excellent with many beautiful beaches nearby and all the amenities you need in Penzance. We absolutely loved it and can’t recommend it enough.

A beautiful holiday cottage with a wonderful charming garden with lovely sea views at the end of the garden. The cottage was spotlessly kept. The kitchen was thought fully equipped with every cooking aid you could wish for. The shower room was super. We slept well. The cottage far exceeded our expectations. A wonderful weeks holiday. Peaceful & a total rest.

A beautiful cottage which has a gorgeous garden with views out to sea from the little seat at the far end.

We really enjoyed our stay here, the cottage was very comfortable and felt homely too. Some nesting seagulls next door took a bit of dislike to our presence shortly after lockdown, but this could not be helped.

Lovely walks across fields into Mousehole and a great pub in the village of Paul, a short stroll away. Thank you for a lovely stay.

I recommend Penrose Cottage as very good value with exceptional views from the garden.

We thoroughly enjoyed our New Year break at Penrose Cottage. What a lovely location - far enough into the countryside for peace and tranquillity but only a short walk into Mousehole to enjoy all it has to offer. Thank you for the bubbly and Cornish ginger biscuits and for making the cottage so Christmassy!

This was our 2nd Christmas at Penrose Cottage.. it is a lovely, welcoming, warm cottage that has a very homely feeling to it. Beautifully decorated, fantastic location and a lovely sea view from the garden.

Excellent cottage and holiday

We had really relaxing holidays in Cornwall. The place is very nice with a wonderful garden and a nice view to Penzance and St. Michaels Mount. Parking was possible and we could also walk or go by bus to other places. Inside the cottage, we had everything we needed.

We absolutely loved our stay at Penrose Cottage! The large woodburner makes it lovely and cozy in winter and in the summer the gardens must be lovely to hang out in, too. It's an absolute gem. Will come again!

Aspects Holidays made our Christmas holiday in Cornwall very easy! Their website is very easy to use, the little pack that you receive with all the cottage details including directions is well thought out and the welcoming gift of biscuits is very thoughtful! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in one of their cottages and will definitely be booking again.

Our second visit to penrose cottage.love the location away from the hustle and bustle, so peaceful. Beautiful views from bottom of garden. Property so well equipped and very clean, loving the new shower room since we last stayed.cosy in the evenings with wood burner.we will be back soon !

Penrose cottage is the perfect place for utter peace and quiet, beautiful views and very comfortable. All you could want for a relaxing and restorative holiday .. Watch for the Mousehole Male Voice Choir when they practice in the local church, go in and listen__ fabulous and free.

Lovely cottage, terrific garden, have already booked again for 2019

Cosy little cottage with a beautiful garden and see view. We had lovely holidays in Cornwell.

We arrived at Penrose Cottage after an 8 hour journey in the pouring rain. We were very pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of wine and Cornish biscuits there to welcome us. Penrose cottage was so clean and welcoming with lots of lovely, homely added touches.

Penrose cottage is a real gem of a property, to sit in the garden and hear only the birds singing and the cattle lowing was a tonic to the mind, the view from the bottom of the garden was likewise a tonic to the soul, seeing "creation" in all its glory.

Cosy, clean ,well equipped cottage. Look forward to returning

A lovely cottage, well decorated with an excellent garden. Hard to beat!

Lovely cottage close to beautiful scenery. We enjoyed the quiet and peaceful location, the wonderful garden and the great view.

Penrose cottage was an absolute delight. We were made very welcome with a bottle of cava and ginger biscuits to greet us! The accommodation was excellent and very comfortable, for 2 people it was very spacious. There was everything you could need in the kitchen, living room and bedroom. I think the garden topped it all though; lush greenery and abundant with flowers and a view over Mount's Bay which was lovely and unexpected.

Handy location, quiet with lovely garden & views to the sea.

We have had a wonderful stay! The location was very quiet and it was nice to be close to, but not in, a more busy area. The garden is beatyful and the view from it breathtaking. We felt at home right away.

We loved the property, location and views of the sea. It is the nicest property we have stayed in in Cornwall. The bed was very comfortable, and there were lots of nice touches which gave it a homely feel. The garden was particularly pretty and secluded. A parasol for the garden table would be nice, but otherwise I wouldn't change anything.

Penrose cottage is an excellent cottage with a beautiful garden in a wonderful location. Probably the best holiday cottage we have stayed in!

Excellent in every detail Equipment was perfect, and plenty of it too. Lovely conservatory to eat in. We though it was allsuperb.
