This is a beautiful cottage benefitting from a secluded front garden and sunny sunroom at the front of the cottage. Beds were very comfortable and the cottage was well equipped with everything needed for a relaxing stay. Highly recommended! A note of caution - the stairs are quite steep for the less mobile!

Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Enjoy afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room or sit down for an evening meal at 2 Fore Street, a French bistro-style restaurant on Mousehole harbour front. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Mousehole Sea Salts & Sail Festival

Taking place every two years, this maritime festival celebrates Mousehole's fishing heritage with traditional sailing boat races and many other activities and entertainment for the whole family. 2014 was the festival's tenth biennial festival, taking place on the 11th, 12th & 13th July.  Read our blog post from the event here: Sea Salts and Sail Festival.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Read more about the History of Mousehole on our blog.

Places to visit near Mousehole

Venture near or far, with NewlynPorthcurno and Marazion all within a short drive or the cobbled streets of St Ives and the surfing beach of Sennen a little further away. Visit Penzance town to do some light shopping or head to Jubilee Pool to cool down after a long day of exploring. Wherever you want to go, our Mousehole self catering cottages make an ideal base from which to explore the towns and villages of West Cornwall.

Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

Lovely week spent in Grey Cottage, fabulous location in beautiful Mousehole, a perfect base for exploring south Cornwall. The cottage is equipped with everything you need and very cosy, we would definitely come back again.

Lovely cottage exactly as described, cleanliness was outstanding, nice to see the owners personal touches were all through the cottage which made it extra special.

Lovely and much needed week in Mousehole, Grey Cottage was such a lovely find. It is beautifully appointed and so welcoming, the welcome pack was such a lovely touch. Aspect Holidays are extremely switched on and helpful. So much to see and do in the area, 2 Fore Street an absolute must as was Portmeor Beach Cafe,Portminster Cafe and the theatre and beach in Portcurno, absolutely breath taking. Fabulous week all round, we even had the sunshine, thank you,

A lovely cottage overall in a convenient location and a very pretty village. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and found it a welcoming place to return to at the end of each day.

Grey Cottage is really fabulous, beautifully decorated with a wonderful little garden, and only a short walk from Mousehole harbour. We loved it so much that we didn't want to leave.

The bed was super comfortable! The decor is so on trend we even want to model our own home on it! The location was great! This cottage is beautiful! Infact the pictures online do not do it justice. Even left us loads of logs which we replenished with our own! It’s lovely to be in Mousehole without people walking past your window! The only thing we thought it could do with in the lounge is a larger rug because the floor does get extremely cold. It’s just a beautiful house and we didn’t want to leave!
