April 2024

Fisherman’s square is the perfect place to escape to. I went out of season when Mousehole is in hibernation, the only noise that disrupted the peace was the seagulls bickering in the harbour. The location is extraordinary, so close to the incoming tide that I felt at times the cottage was floating on the water. I spent a large part of my stay just looking out at the changing weather and at night, watching the fishing boats heading for the safety of Newlyn. Most evenings, after supper in one of the many places to eat in Mousehole,, I lit the open fire and cozied up with a book. It was utterly perfect. I’m sure in season the cottage and location has a completely different vibe, but for me, looking for peace, a cold, blustery week in Feb was exactly what I needed.

Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Enjoy harbour views and artisan foods at Mousehole Deli & kitchen, afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room or sit down for an evening meal at 2 Fore Street, a French bistro-style restaurant on Mousehole harbour front. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Top tip

Visit at Christmas and experience the magical Mousehole Lights display!

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

Aspect Holidays ( we are always returning to your properties) are in a league of their own. Extraordinary level of professionalism and attention to detail… We applaud you!

This was out third visit to Fisherman’s Square. The property is absolutely gorgeous! The art work inside is amazing and the location is just idyllic! What more can I say. Can’t wait to return.

Aspects Holidays have been our go to booking agent for the past five years prior to Covid - this year was our first back and their service and professionalism is still of the same high standard - we look forward to another visit to Mousehole next year and will definitely try to book through them again Veryan Hutchings

The cottage exceeded our expectations. Perfect location, cosy, stylish interior, along with comfortable raised bed to see the amazing view. Kitchen was warm and had everything we needed to enjoy cooking. It appeared to be one of the very best cottages in Mousehole.

Dream accommodation, in a dream location! Just perfect!

Beautifully presented, warm, clean and peaceful.

Absolutely magical as always in Mousehole but enhanced by Fisherman's Square, stunning decor and very comfortable with the sound of the gentle waves at night. Perfection, thank you

What a fantastic cottage in a wonderful location. We were blown away with the views and the cottage is perfect for total relaxation. Each room is decorated beautifully and just as comfortable. The view from the bedroom is glorious and so cosy . The bathroom is spectacular and the area is perfect for a total break. We will definitely return and so grateful to have been lucky enough to stay in this truly special property. Thank you.

Fisherman’s Square has probably the best location in Mousehole. Sitting outside having breakfast in the sunshine is what holidays are all about. We come to Mousehole twice a year and this is by far the best cottage we have stayed in. The views are amazing and seeing a seal in the harbour made our stay perfect. Highly recommend.

A wonderful week in this unique and perfectly located cottage. Views over the harbour are amazing….sitting and watching the comings and goings was the perfect tonic for a restful holiday.

We have stayed in many cottages in Mousehole over last 40 years. A lot thro Aspects . This one certainly has the view and space.

This house is like a treasure box and every room is a work of art in itself (I would have loved to take half of the paintings with me). Lying on the HUGE bed in bedroom 1 one can watch the harbour, the sea, the weather. The second bedroom doesn´t have this fantastic view, but is equally comfortable and cosy. Sitting directly at the harbour we loved watching the tides while having cream tea. Britain at its best. We would love the come back one day!

Fishermans Square is an absolute gem of a find with ‘front row’ seats to the idyllic harbour. Such a great spot to dine outside and watch all the wonderful activities of the harbour and a lovely safe place to swim or take out a paddle board. The home is finished to a high standard and oh so stylish with beautiful artwork everywhere. Such a precious place!

We loved our recent week-long stay at Fishermans Cottage. It's very well thought out and well equipped and has lovely touches like a raised bed in the main bedroom so you get the best of the harbour view, and soft white towelling robes. The location is the best in the village and is perfect if you like watching the world go by. Highly recommend staying here!

The cottage is in the best location in Mousehole. We have already booked for 2023. Cannot recommend Fishermans Square enough. Thanks again for a fantastic stay

Beautifully and very tastefully decorated cottage. Loved the artwork. Very quiet, peaceful and private location but very central to the village and all its amenities. My sister and I had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay. Mousehole is a true romantic gem of Cornwall too and very friendly too especially the helpful car park man at the public Harbour car park. Highly recommended.

This was our second visit to Fisherman’s Square and it definitely won’t be our last. It’s an absolutely amazing holiday cottage in a perfect location!

Fisherman Square is idyllic and beautiful. We couldn’t have chosen a better cottage and location. It is a stones throw from the harbour front and is just relaxing watching the tides coming and going Mousehole is a very friendly place to stay with lovely places to eat and good walks with fresh fish available in newlyn harbour. Hoping to be back next year

The most beautiful place we have ever stayed at in Mousehole village and we have stayed lots of times.

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location!

Wow, Wow, Wow! Absolutely fabulous location! The artwork, fixtures and fittings were astonishing! To see such beautiful original artwork in a holiday let is astounding! The mix of antique pieces alongside modern pieces of furniture was fantastic and worked really well. We will definitely be returning to Fisherman’s Square, we had a wonderful holiday, thank you.

An outstanding Cornish cottage in an unbeatable location. Really enjoyed leaving the car behind, stepping on to the sand and wandering to the many great places to eat in the gorgeous village of Mousehole. The cottage was beautifully presented throughout and the view made for another memorable and relaxing Cornish holiday. Would love to stay here again.

Fabulous, spacious and wonderfully decorate home on the harbour front at Mousehole. Master bedroom looks straight out of the harbour. You could not get a better location. Well equipped kitchen for those that don’t want to go out every night and washing machine and dryer for dealing with all that active gear. Note, second bedroom is a mezzanine so open to the kitchen so really this is a very spacious couples, young family retreat. Oh and dogs are allowed so big bonus. Highly recommended.

Stunning property, very well equipped. Beautifully presented and immaculate on arrival. The views are stunning. Aspects Holidays communication was first class, would I book with them again .... absolutely. Amanda Aubrey

Fantastic location, superbly well equipped cottage. Just watching the daily activity of the harbour was brilliant.

We have stopped in many cottages in Mousehole over the years but this is the best spot in the whole village. The sunrise is spectacular to watch from the bed and the sun beams on the terrace in the morning. The cottage inside is better than the photos show and the view took our breath away! We loved it so much we have another two weeks booked!

Fabulous cottage. Quirky, arty interior with all the comforts of home. Peaceful location, just the lapping of the waves to lull you to sleep. We really enjoyed our week at Fisherman’s Square, a cottage we shall definitely return to and thoroughly recommend.

We have just returned from the most fabulous week at Fisherman's Square, Mousehole. The cottage was incredible, beautifully decorated and furnished. The location was fabulous and we spent many hours watching the harbour. We really hope to return very soon.

We had a wonderful week staying at Fishermans Square, what a fantastic location. The cottage was immaculate and was equipped with everything we needed. Even though it was October we sat outside in the mornings to see a beautiful sunrise. We would love to return!

Fabulous location right on the water's edge. Simply the best spot we have ever stayed in at Mousehole. Spent many enjoyable hours just watching the harbour change both with the tides and weather. Very comfy property with a slighy quirky but totally fascinating decor.

Had an amazing week at fisherman's Square. Cottage was beautifully furnished throughout. Ver clean and comfortable. The location is excellent and the view is to die for! I definitely recommend.
