Cregyn Cottage
Mousehole

£527 - £1388 per week
Book

A charming 300 year old traditional fisherman's cottage, Cregyn Cottage is simply styled throughout with a seaside feel and a cream and white colour scheme giving a relaxed holiday feel. The ground floor space is open plan with a kitchen/sitting/dining area giving lots of family space, and a small patio area leading onto a cobbled path straight onto the beach. This is a lovely family holiday home which will not disappoint, particularly if the children love tales of smuggling, as the cottage used to have its own smuggler's tunnel! The owner of the cottage has written a book based on the tunnel, 'The Smugglers of Mousehole', which has been made into a film.

Read more about Cregyn Cottage and the smugglers' tunnel. Cregyn Cottage has quirky reverse level accommodation with an entrance and three bedrooms at street level and the living space and a further entrance at harbour level below! The restaurants, shops and curio shops of Mousehole are all within easy reach, but the area is full of ideas for days out; the sandy beaches of Porthcurno and Sennen, Land's End, or St Ives all within your grasp.

Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Enjoy harbour views and artisan foods at Mousehole Deli & kitchen, afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room or sit down for an evening meal at 2 Fore Street, a French bistro-style restaurant on Mousehole harbour front. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Visit at Christmas and experience the magical Mousehole Lights display!

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

Lovely cottage, excellent base to stay at.

Another lovely stay in Cregyn. Such a lovely location and eve if you never leave the village it's a perfect getaway. The cottage was warm and cosy, well equipped for self-catering and we have booked again for next year!

Beautiful cottage, gorgeous inside, comfortable, gorgeous position, village etc Just perfect!

I have sent several reviews before so a I’ll leave it to someone else! It was a fabulous stay anyway enhanced by great weather and we’re back again for 2 weeks next April! ??

A fantastic stay at Cregyn Cottage in Mousehole. We had such a wonderful time in this beautiful harbour cottage. The main door is on the Gurnick which takes you straight into the bedrooms and bathroom but we mainly used the back door - accessed on a path at the side of Mousehole Rowing Club on the South Quay. There's no view of the harbour from the cottage but it is no more than a 10 second walk out the back door onto the South Quay beach so it was perfect. It's very quiet and secluded which is precisely what we were looking for. The cottage has absolutely everything you could need for a stay; the kitchen was fully equipped and the downstairs living area had a dining table and 2 living rooms, one with a TV. There's also a toilet and shower next to the kitchen, ideally from coming straight in from a swim or paddle board in the harbour. The living areas are very comfortable and spacious and there's also a side door in the dining room area that leads to the outside courtyard. This is a farmhouse style door that's split which adds to the quaintness of the surroundings. Upstairs there are 3 large bedrooms, 2 with double beds, and one with twins. The main bedroom has an ensuite but the family bathroom is situated directly outside the bedrooms. The booking process was so easy and I have to thank the Aspect Holidays staff for their help with the booking process (I had to change my dates a couple of times and staff were also excellent in helping with a slightly earlier check-in time) as there was no request that was any trouble for them. I've been visiting Mousehole for 17 years and it never disappoints. This was however my first stay at Cregyn but will definitely not be my last.

This cottage is perfectly located for family breaks in Mousehole with a cosy, well designed downstairs. A ground-floor shower proved useful. The clean, light decor of the cottage was welcoming and thought has gone into providing a comfortable holiday space.

Like the cottage very much, very comfortable clean and tidy ease of access good discreption of the way to get to the the entrance and of the inside of the cottage.

Lovely cottage and location - would love to stay again. Aspects were very helpful in the booking etc.

Fabulous place to stay, well equipped, very comfortable, gorgeous cottage, close to harbour, my ideal place, will be back again soon

We have visited Cregyn 10 times now over the last 8 years or so and it really is our 'happy place' as it is for many others. The cottage has such a history yet is warm and welcoming and has modern comforts. We like to eat in as much as eat out and it's very well equipped for this. It's great to have a dishwasher and washing machine to hand and a large fridge and freezer. The cottage is perfectly located for stepping outside and sitting by the quay and watching the world go by or spotting a seal basking; we never tire of the views from the harbour.

If you read the exciting children's book series 'The Smugglers of Mousehole' it is great to stay in the very cottage that inspired the author and owner of Cregyn, Alan Sanders-Clarke. The tales move from the modern day back and forth in time; from smugglers tunnels to hidden treasures...including features in the cottage itself which appear in the books...

The cottage is fantastic and in a great location in Mousehole literally just near the Quay. We've been twice before and loved the smugglers porthole in the living room. Would highly recommend.

My 9th stay in the lovely Cregyn Cottage. It is so comfortable and warm and I slept better than at home! Covid-19 precautions were well adhered to so we felt safe too. So many things to recommend about the cottage (and its mysteries as penned in the 'Smugglers of Mousehole' series of books written by the owner) and about Mousehole itself. Such friendly people in the Methodist Church and in the shops and cafes. We also experience a lovely 'Heritage Walk' with the very knowledgeable Elaine who is a Mousehole girl and press officer for the RNLI at Newlyn. Coupled with April sunshine it was another perfect break, especially in these unusual times. We'll be back in September!

Charming property in a fantastic location. Our kids loved it. Top tip: Read the book 'Smugglers of Mousehole' to make your stay even more unique and enjoyable.

Another stay in this historic and delightful cottage. It's always warm and welcoming, comfortable, well equipped and cosy. It's great to be able to walk from the front or back doors and be by the sea or the harbour. The cottage is beautifully decorated and combines modern comforts with historic features and if you read 'The Smugglers of Mousehole' books, written by the owner, it will add a whole new dimension, especially if you have children!

Cregyn Cottage stay 5.9.20 - 12.9.20. The cottage is in a lovely position and so close to the centre of Mousehole harbour, beach and the car park .Although some days you may need to wait for a space to become available.
The décor throughout has a coastal theme. The beds are so comfortable and the bedding was lovely - a good nights sleep was had by all! The kitchen has everything you require to self-cater should you wish to during these Covid 19 times. There are some lovely places to eat in Mousehole but he best ones were booked up before we left for our holiday for evening meals. The Whole Food Deli restaurant does a lovely paella and the Old Coast Guard Hotel has a lovely modern menu and service that is second to none. The Rock Pool Café was always very busy and our elderly guests didn't have the patients to wait in the queue. You can buy take away meals and Cornish teas at various places in Mousehole. Hope you have a good clutch as the entry and exist to Mousehole are very steep. We started entering and existing via Raginnis Hill past the bird hospital - less traffic and fewer corners just walkers mostly.

Nice place to stay, not much to do in the evenings as bookings needed everywhere due to covid. Early booking very much a priority. Parking very restricted and once parked achieved, makes you very reluctant to venture out again in the evenings as you will have parking problems on return.

Thank you for your comments. It is a shame that you did not get the usual experience, due to the COVID-19 rules in place during the time of your visit, but we hope that you still enjoyed your time away even so. A lot has changed over these past months, and the local businesses are all trying to do what they can to make it as simple for everyone as possible, but it is certainly a little different from usual! Unfortunately, in a lot of areas like this, properties and villages were just not built with the kind of traffic that we have these days, which is a big part of their appeal, but it does mean that many do not have parking facilities and car parks can become busy during peak times of the year. The team here are always happy to help with advice on where parking may be found, if you are planning on returning and regularly venturing out. We hope that you still had a lovely holiday and that we will see you again. Lucy, Customer Services

Lovely cottage in and excellent location with easy parking. Lovely and qiet on this side of harbour in the evening and the beach is just a few steps from the cottage. Great

Loved this gem of a cottage. Amazing location. Look forward to coming again .

EVERYTHING ! A charming and very spacious Cottage. Beautifully decorated with the Seaside Theme.
We very much appreciated the Flowers on the Table. The Cottage and the Location is the best we could find. Charming Little Port. We very much loved our stay in Cornwall and this Cottage was the Cherry on the Cake. Thank you - we‘d love to come back one Day.

We have stayed here twice now and had a really super stay. So lovely, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Love the closeness to the beach and harbour - brilliant for the children. Would recommend Cregyn cottage to anyone.

I was born and brought up in the village so know the area well as well as the cottage. It's home to me.

The cottage was beautiful. It was in a near perfect location, close to the car park. The utilities were very good and there was plenty of everything.

Cregyn cottage is a beautiful place to stay. Great location, so close to the beach and with great character, the owners really have put a lot of thought into it. We have stayed in mousehole many times before, but never have we found a cottage so spacious!! Cregyn is a 'gem' & we have had a wonderful time !!

An ideal situation close to all the local amenities
