Bluebell Down Farm is tucked away on a working farm in a National Landscape (formerly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) within the north Penwith Peninsula. The area is famed for its scenic beauty with a mosaic of stone walled fields between the sea and the back drop of higher moorland. Surrounded by ancient settlements and a nature reserve, this 400 year old farmhouse offers a true taste of rural life with all the comforts of home. Sleeping four, with two blissful bedrooms either end of the cottage, each having their own bathroom, you can slide out of bed, sneak upstairs to brew a pot of coffee to watch the dawn sun come up over the delightful countryside and down to the sea beyond.

Bluebell Down Farm was originally a cow barn and dates back to the early 1600’s. Its three and a half acre fields now form part of a working farm, backing on to the bluebell and heather strewn Chûn Downs and overlooking the open sea. A short walk up the hill will take you to a Neolithic burial site, Chûn Quoit, thought to have been built in about 2,400 BC. One of the best preserved Quoits in Western Cornwall, it comprises a closed chamber with a mushroom shaped capstone, supported by four huge slabs of granite. At the top of the hill is Chûn Castle, a circular iron age hill fort. A perfect spot for a picnic, you can see the sea on three sides from here. Bluebell Down Farm is positioned close to The Shepherd Hut at Bluebell Down Farm, so a great way to bring more of the family is by booking both properties.

We have just spent a relaxing Christmas holiday at Bluebell Down Farm. The cottage is set in a beautiful rural location with sea views , yet is only 10 to 15 mins in the car from Penzance. The cottage is spacious well equipped and was very warm and inviting. We enjoyed walks on local dog friendly beaches including Portheras Cove which really is a hidden gem. This is the third time we have used Aspects holidays and it will not be the last. Thank you for excellent communication and customer service.

December 2022

We liked the ambience of the cottage, enjoyed the stove (and the presence of logs of course), the library and the cosiness of every single room. Scones, towels, cleaning supplies: everything at hand. that made our arrival after 2000km (we live at Lake Garda) very easy & comfortable. Nice area to be discovered by car or even within walking distance. “Thank you” to the whole team of aspect holidays, you did a perfect job!

Morvah is ideal walking country, with open fields stretching down to mighty granite cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. So if you’re seeking some much-needed time in the great outdoors, with footpaths beneath your feet and sea air rushing past you, Morvah could be the perfect destination for you.

Top tip

Cycle the coast road into St Ives.

Things to do

Located in the far west of Cornwall, there’s plenty to see and do nearby.

Levant Mine and Beam Engine

Visit this National Trust attraction to see the historic steam-powered beam engine in action. Explore the underground tunnel and discover more on the family trail at one of Cornwall's most famous mines.

Geevor Tin Mine

Another popular attraction near Morvah is Geevor Tin Mine, an old mine which has been preserved and now serves as an attraction to display Cornwall's rich industrial past. With breathtaking views along the coast, and with plenty to explore, it provides a great day out for everyone.

Land’s End

When staying in west Cornwall, visiting the landmark Land’s End is must! Spend the day at the most westerly point in mainland Britain; enjoy the attractions, say hello to the farm animals, get a photo with the signpost, and take in those spectacular views!

Walks in and around Morvah

This area of Cornwall is perfect for walking; with wooded valleys, quaint villages, rolling fields, Cornish coves and coastal paths all waiting to be explored.

Nearby walks

Head through fields, farms and lanes towards the coast and you’ll discover Pendeen Lighthouse. Enjoy the advantageous views before heading back to the quintessential village of Morvah.

The South West Coast Path

Beaches

West Cornwall is home to lots of hidden coves, which once upon a time would have been used for smuggling. However, some of the bigger beaches are far more easily accessible and family-friendly.

Portherras Cove Beach

Only accessible by foot, this sandy cove, located at the end of a small valley, is off the beaten track; be prepared for a walk down and a bit of a climb back up.

Porthcurno Beach

This stunning beach boasts soft golden sand and turquoise waters, and with lifeguard cover from mid-May through to the end of September, it’s a popular choice for families. Sheltered by cliffs on either side, and with stunning views, it’s truly a little piece of paradise.

Sennen Cove Beach

A large expanse of golden sand, this is the perfect place to visit for a day at the beach. Whether you plan to spend your time surfing, swimming, rock-pooling or simply relaxing on the sand, there’s plenty of space for everyone.

St Ives’ Beaches

Of course, you could head into St Ives for the day and visit one of the beautiful beaches there. From the expansive Porthmeor, great for surfing, to the smaller and more sheltered Porthgwidden beach. Whichever beach you choose here, there’s always plenty of facilities nearby.

What our guests say...

We know how important honest reviews are when it comes to booking your holiday. To help you choose the right property for you, we publish all reviews left by guests who have stayed here in the past, with the few exceptions stated in our Review Guidelines. Please bear in mind that some facilities referred to by past guests in reviews can be removed or changed at any time.

We stayed 4/7/2023 Obviously read all reviews and went with an open mind . Can honestly say we loved our stay at the property . Expect rugged and window seats with views down to sea . We took our dog Delilah for her first holiday and she loved all the walks around . Saw so much wildlife in our 10 days stay foxes , rabbits in abundance Property is well equipped and owners thoughtfully left torch . Beds very comfortable Our Qashqai negotiated the rough track . Probably not for elderly infirm or very young children due to steps outside back door and unevenness . Would go back without hesitation .

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback following your stay at Bluebell Down Farm. We are delighted that the whole family had a lovely time, what a treat for Delilah's first holiday! Due to the property's rural nature, we try to advertise the narrow, unmade track in the property description as it may not suit all cars and drivers, but it is great to hear your car navigated this well. We also display the property's wide stone steps up to the entrance in the photographs, and recommend that children are supervised at all times. We hope to welcome you back to Bluebell Down Farm again soon. Katy, Customer Services.

Overall a good holiday, Bluebell Farm is quaint and pretty with good views on a clear day, however we wouldn't return due to a few issues, mainly cleanliness and some TLC needed to improve the experience.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed the great views from Bluebell Down Farm. We are sorry to hear that there were a few issues you found with the property, and we would have loved to have had the opportunity to put these things right for you had you got in touch with us during your stay. We never expect any guests to have to clear up on arrival, and would have been happy to get the housekeeper to return to the property for you. We hope we can welcome you back in the future. Very nice cottage, but a little remote. Ideal if you enjoy walking

We had a really wonderful stay at Bluebell Down Farm. The location is beautiful looking out across farmland to the sea. The accommodation was lovely and very well equipped. Nice touch to have lots of DVDs, books and board games to choose from. The bed was very comfy! Beautiful beaches near by and St Ives in easy reach. We were a little concerned by some reviews which said road access was tricky unless you had a 4x4. This really isn’t the case! It was absolutely fine unless you have a crazy low car. No problem at all. When we arrived two lightbulbs were out but we were very impressed by how quickly a handyman came out and rectified it. Communication from Aspects was fantastic. As a family with a toddler (crawling) Aspects had said we could fit a stair gate. However the stairs are very narrow and our stair gate didn’t fit. We made do. We’ll definitely come again but maybe not for a few years when our little boy is bigger and so the lack of stair gate etc isn’t a problem.

Best accommodation I have stayed West Penwith. We loved the home comforts, the books, guitar, games etc. location is fantastic - apart from the farm track, but it wouldn’t deter us from staying again. The views are the best in the area, and Portheras is magnificent. Only grumble was having to deal with an issue with the water supply - an alarm was going off for a part that needed replacing, and according to the display had been beeping for 26days. We had to accommodate the engineers visit at a time that was bit inconvenient. These things happen, but we were suprised not to hear from either the owners or the agency to ask if everything was ok.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are glad to hear how much you had liked it there, but sorry that we had not been previously made aware of the warning message and for any confusion over communication following this. As soon as you had reported it, we contacted the relevant company, informed you that it was still perfectly safe, but an engineer would be attending and would not require you to stay in the property. The team had not followed up knowing that the engineer visit would resolve it, but we do usually try to follow up after any report from guests, so we are sorry that it hadn't been done on this occasion. A beautiful holiday home full of character. Very well presented with comfy beds, luxurious bathrooms and a wonderful kitchen. The welcome pack is super and board games are provided, as are books. Would recommend for an older family with a four wheel drive car.

Bluebell Down Cottage is the perfect getaway in West Penwith. A beautifully renovated old cowshed with views down to the sea. Plenty of walks direct from the cottage, up the hill to Chun Quoit or down to the beach at Portheras Cove. Sitting out in the evening with a glass of wine and just the rabbits and foxes for company was a joy. It feels remote but in reality you are never more than 20 minutes from civilisation. Will definitely be back.

Bluebell Down Farm is a lovely place to stay. The location is super. So peaceful and the views are just stunning. We took a walk to the secret beach which is amazing and just 50 minutes each way. If you want a break away from the stresses of modern life Bluebell Down Farm is perfect !

A beautiful property overlooking the sea with the sounds of birds and cows for company. If you want a getaway from it holiday, this is the place to be. Lots of walks from the doorstep and a stunning sandy, dog friendly cove nearby. An amazing place!

Bluebell Down Farm is a delight - it's location is amazing. If you're tired of the masses of people thronging St Ives or other similar locations, then try the Zennor/St Just coast. Comfortable dog friendly cottage with great walks on the moors behind. There's a large window looking out over the sea that's perfect for a glass of wine and a rest. Just be aware that the track up to the cottage requires a more rugged vehicle (don't bring your Porsche!) and there isn't an enclosed garden. Our dog loved it as there was no-one else to bother and he could roam around.

Lovely peaceful location off the beaten track but not so far from towns/villages as to be properly remote. Perfect spaniel friendly location with loads of great walks both inland and coastal.

All in all a great place to relax and unwind. A robust car a benefit to get to the Barn.

Beautiful views, what a fabulous place to stay. Plenty of walks to enjoy, the secret beach is well worth the trek. We’re already planning our next stay.

Without doubt the most peaceful setting you could wish for and as for the beds… i have never felt so comfortable and rested on 25 years of travelling. Highly recommend this cottage.

We had a great second stay at Bluebell Cottage, very cosy and ideally located in the wilds of the remote far West. Would stay again.

Had such a lovely stay at bluebell down farm. The cottage is stunning and in a beautiful remote location with views of the sea and countryside. Just a short drive to some fabulous beaches and to St ives, Mousehole and Marazion. Loved it!

Just spent a week at Bluebell Down Farm at the end of October - myself, my wife and out flat-coated retriever Fiver Lovely location, tucked away from it all but close enough to all the delights West Cornwall has to offer. Cottage very comfortable and well furnished. Weather very kind to us. Sea and the waves were amazing - storm/wave watching in Sennen and Portcurno, tackling the waves at Praa, finding our way to the secret beach near the cottage and marvelling at the location/atmosphere at the Minack Theatre were a few of our daily adventures. Took advantage of the log burner most evenings making the cottage warm and cosy especially welcome after our daily battering from the waves. Most people say 'we hope to go back' but we can say 'we will be going back' as we've booked for 2021 already!

Quiet and secluded location in the beautiful countryside of Cornwall. Fantastic walks all around the property too. Cottage was spacious with a really cosy feel to it. Loved the week we spent there

Bluebell Down Farm is in a great location ideal for coastal walks either from the doorstep or just a short drive. Penzance was approximately 15 minutes drive away and a lovely coastal drive took you to St. Ives in around half an hour. The farmhouse offers cozy, rustic and very comfortable accommodation with good facilities. During the current Covid situation we felt very relaxed and comfortable would definitely like to return.

Lovely isolated cottage, ideal if you want to really get away from it all. The drive is very bumpy - we had a 4X4 but even so it was a bit precarious! Nearest shop is the Spar at Pendeen which also, helpfully, sells logs and kindling. Be sure to make the effort to walk up (15 mins) to Carne Castle and the burial chamber behind the cottage - very impressive. A longer (40 mins) walk (cross country footpath by the farm) takes you to the almost deserted, and stunning beach below Morvah (Penberth Cove). Alternatively park at Pendeen Lighthouse or the farm car park for a shorter walk). Good and very safe restaurant at Gurnard’s Head. (Need to book)

Thank you for your comments. We are very pleased to read that you had a wonderful holiday at Bluebell Down Farm and the property is ideal for getting away from it all. As you have rightly said, the drive is very bumpy due to it being a narrow, unmade track so we would ask that guests take care when making their way up to the property. The property is surrounded by so many great places to visit, by car and by foot and we hope that the track would not stop you from coming back to Bluebell Down Farm. Thank you again for your review. Lucy, Customer Services

A lovely setting with beautiful views. Comfy beds and a homely feel. A nice big kitchen with all the mod cons you would need. A central location means all the beaches and main tourist attractions are within a short driving distance. Highly recommended.

Remote location with superb views. The property was very clean. We would definitely return.

We had a lovely short break in February and found the cottage very comfortable and perfect for our needs. It is very private and quiet and ideal for a relaxing break with lots of books, games and DVDs to borrow. Even the dogs are catered for. The bedrooms are lovely and the beds extremely comfortable. We will definitely be back.

Had a fantastic time celebrating the new year, great location, beautiful cottage .

Just returned from a long weekend at Bluebell Down Farm with our little boy (2) and two dogs. Such a lovely cottage in a great location & very private. The cottage was a perfect size and would work really well for two couples. The garden was a great size for the dogs too! It is down a long lane but we knew that from the description- which was very accurate. Good WiFi but no phone signal which was perfect for a quiet time away from work! Great walks around the area and a short drive from some amazing beaches and views! Overall, we were really happy with the property and are planning to return next year. Also a lovely added detail with the Christmas decorations! Very cosy and comfortable, thank you!

We absolutely loved our stay at Bluebell Down Farm. The location was perfect (only 15 mins to St Ives) and the views from the cottage were stunning. The open fire was lovely and although it was cold outside, this cottage was so cosy. Lots of games and lovely touches throughout the cottage too. We are already planning our trip back here next year!

We had a wonderful stay at Bluebell Down Farm Cottage. The property has been beautifully renovated, is well equipped and provides an excellent base for exploring this part of Cornwall. The views are amazing and it is very peaceful. I would very much recommend this property as a holiday let. It is worth noting that the road/track to the property is currently rather bumpy and there is also a shepherd's hut in front of the building which is also available for rental.

Had a pleasant short break in this quirky cottage in early September with good weather, so were able to enjoy views and walks in fields. A good bolt hole for a few days, may not be so enjoyable if weather isn't good.

We (family of 4 plus our dog) stayed here during August. We were delighted with the cottage and found it to be a charming and cosy cottage with all the contemporary comforts. Idyllic location set back from the stunning coastal road. We would definitely recommend and are likely to stay here again when we revisit the area.
