Holidays in Lamorna

Lamorna Cove is a beautiful and secluded area of Cornwall sat between the pretty harbour town of Mousehole and the glorious Porthcurno beach. You can walk the coastal path to both of these locations, or if you’re feeling adventurous, walk all the way to Land’s End! Lamorna Cove is the perfect base to enjoy a self catering holiday and to explore the further reaches of West Cornwall.

The cliffs around Lamorna Cove are beautiful. The cove has been known for fishing and quarrying in the past. It was also a haunt for artists such as 'Lamorna Birch', particularly in the 1930s. The Cove also has an arts festival and a flourishing village hall, in which you might see international performers from time to time on the Carn to Cove Rural Touring Circuit. The cove lies at the end of a woodland valley, as does St. Loy, a little further south along the coast.

Top tip

Walk the coast path from Lamorna to Mousehole for some truly breathtaking views!

Things to do at Lamorna

When the tide is out, Lamorna Cove sports a small sandy beach, but its rocky nature means the area is better known for diving and snorkelling. A nearby beach café serves hot and cold snacks or park up and enjoy an ice cream while looking out to sea. In the summer season you can hire motorboats and kayaks or if you’d rather something less active, the blue waters are perfect for bathing. If a day at the beach is your thing, check out our guide to Sandy beaches in West Cornwall for other beaches in the area which are well worth visiting.

With the harbour town of Penzance just a short drive away, there's plenty to keep you entertained on a self catering holiday in Lamorna. For ideas on what to do during your stay with us, check out our blog post on Days out around Penzance.

A trip to the stunning tidal island of St Michaels Mount is a must if you're in the area.

A true story...

A lot of famous people holiday in the hills and coves of Cornwall. In the 1970s, three locals (an out of work actor, a DJ, and a young writer) decided to start a hospital radio station, named Duchy Hospital Radio. They set up in a caravan in a car park behind West Cornwall Hospital in Penzance. The actor and writer were particularly interested in spoken word programmes and secured an Uher, the must-have portable reel to reel audio tech of the day. The actor discovered that a famous person was getting away from it all at Lamorna Cove Hotel.  An interview with George Harrison would get Duchy Hospital Radio noticed! The famous Beatle was only too pleased to help and invited them to join him at the hotel for a cream tea. For an hour or more the actor and writer chatted amiably to George about being famous, hiding away in Cornwall, what the other Beatles were like, and the price of tea and chips. Back in the Duchy Radio caravan, the novice reporters soon discovered that in the excitement of meeting their hero, the actor had forgotten to press ‘Record’!

Lamorna cove is a great place to swim and fish explore. Highly recommend it!

Piran Cottage was a great holiday home. We stayed two weeks and it was absolutely amazing. The view was fantastic and the garden was in great condition. The house was exactly as depicted and super clean! We miss waking up to the sound of the sea and can definitely recommend Piran Cottage.

Fantastic cottage in a fantastic, quiet location… the perfect place to escape to

Piran cottage is in a beautiful location and is a perfect place to relax or to get direct access the coastal path. The cottage has a beautiful garden with a lovely variety of plants and flowers and you can sit and soak in the views. There is a dedicated garage for parking that is fine if you reverse park into it.

Idyllic cottage in a beautiful spot. The location is fantastic; lovely views from outside, walks right from the doorstep and not far to drive to places like Mousehole or even St Ives. Cottage itself is beautifully laid out. Really comfortable place to stay and really clean. Secure garden too for our dog to run around in. Extra touches like scones with jam and cream were a lovely surprise when we arrived. A real treat! Thank you!

Lovely cottage in a stunning location. Please aware that the path up to the cottage is quite steep for the less active individual but otherwise perfect!

Piran Cottage is absolutely beautiful, the location is breathtaking. We loved everything from the secret nooks in the terraced garden (which the children played hide and seek) to the amazing Aga in the kitchen. The walk from the garage to the cottage was 2 minutes. Being right on the costal path, it's great for walks to Mousehole or Porthcurno and beyond. The beach at the Lamorna Cove is beautiful with clear water perfect for swimming, just check the tide times. In the evenings we were lucky enough to see the local seal and if you like stargazing, the Milky Way is an unforgettable sight. We highly recommend Piran Cottage and looking forward to visiting next year.

A splendid cottage in a beautiful setting.

We loved Piran Cottage and it’s location as we wanted a quiet holiday. The cottage is well equipped and cosy, especially with the Aga and the log burner.

Although the garage is tight we did park the car in it overnight each day to avoid car parking charges in the harbour.

Good tip - don’t take too much luggage as difficult to carry up to the cottage although a wheelbarrow is provided.

Overall a beautiful place to stay.

Beautiful property, beautiful location, garden was great especially for the dog.

If you have a dog, this cottage has a safe, ideal and secure garden. The cottage itself is lovely, so thoughtfully decorated, fully equipped with everything you'd need. It was lovely to sit with a drink after dinner on the small decked terrace away from the house, which over looks the sea. Lots to see from there, the cruise liners, small fishing boats and little sail boats. If you are lucky and have binoculars, a buzzard can be seen in sky above.

Really great location. Clean and newly furnished cottage. Not luxury but newish fittings and clean.

Beware the Aga - trying to cook local seafood on something with no temperature control and which cooks pasta by basically staring at it until becomes soft is a challenge. Bring a small portable BBQ like we did.

Very atmospheric place though.

Daniel

Aga's do take a little bit of getting used to, but once you are used to using them and with some patience, they are great and add to the lovely character of the place. We are glad that you enjoyed it all here despite the pasta staring challenges! Tanya, Customer Services

Excellent location

We absolutely love the location of this beautiful cottage and the views are wonderful. Our second visit to this magical place.

Location, outdoor space and view from the garden out over the cove are stunning whatever the weather, although ensure you dont overpack as not the easiest transfer of luggage from garage to front door. Try the local Lamorna Pottery cafe for gorgeous home-made cakes and curries served by friendly and welcoming staff.

Wonderful location. Cosy cottage with everything we needed for our stay. Amazing sea views from the cottage and gardens. Stunning costal walks on the doorstep. The perfect place to unwind and enjoy this part of Cornwall.

Second time we have been to Piran. Lovely cottage, great location and would highly recommend it.

Perfect cottage in Lamorna Great views of the sea and coastline, coastal walk to Mousehole is well worth the effort

Really enjoyed cooking on the Electric Aga facilities in cottage superb

Piran Cottage is set in a beautiful location, surrounded by well maintained landscaped gardens, with many little nooks and crannies each enhancing the wonderful views of Lamorna Cove. The cottage is equipped with everything you need for a very relaxing holiday or short break alike. We very much enjoyed the coastal Cliff edged walks on both sides of cove. However be mindful on the steep steps up to the property if walking difficulties are of a concern. Overall a lovely break away.

Lovely cottage in a fantastic location overlooking the sea at beautiful Lamorna Cove. Gorgeous garden but some facility for shade would be welcomed. It was a shame that the sun beds were broken and could not be used.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are glad that you enjoyed your time here though very sorry that the sun beds were broken. Now being aware of this, they have been removed, and the owner has had your suggestion of a parasol passed on to them, for their consideration. It is really useful to hear what facilities guests would find beneficial to be added or changed in properties, to make them more comfortable or practical, so thank you for that. We hope to see you again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Beautifully located cottage with stunning views The cottage is very well presented with everything you need for a wonderful break

For peaceful views of ever changing sea from a varied garden only five minutes from the cove shore, this cannot be beaten.

Everything about the cottage was as advertised. It was a great base to stay, and to explore from. We unreservedly recommend this property - and for September, the weather - we were very fortunate! Thank you to the owner and Aspect. A&J

I would have loved to stay longer in Piran Cottage as we were only on a short break. Located in a quiet picturesque cove this 2 bedrooms cottage did not disappoint, everything catered for I loved the Aga in the kitchen, the rooms were spacious and a well thought out layout. The weather was not warm enough to sit in the large well looked after garden and I will look forward to this next time as the views are amazing. This is a place I would love to return too.

Piran cottage is idyllic surrounded by beautiful gardens .The cottage itself has everything needed for your break ,loved going down to the beach with the dog and wonderful coastal walks .We had a lovely relaxing break .

Really enjoyed holiday will book again

We had a fantastic time, the cottage, gardens and the views are perfect for a relaxing time away by the sea. Wonderful walks on the doorstep and a good pub nearby is a bonus.

Piran Cottage is in a fantastic location. The cottage itself is well cared for and is everything you can expect from a Cornish cottage in a lovely, secluded cove. Booking was easy and the team at Aspects were on hand to ensure we got the best out of the cottage. We will definitely use Aspects again and will be back at Piran Cottage next year.

This cottage is in a very special spot, a minute from the beach and stunning views. We absolutely loved it. Super comfortable beds, spotless and tasteful interior. So peaceful, left bedroom window open and listened to the waves as at night. The garden is beautiful.

Delightful cottage in an enchanted location.
