Your holiday starts as soon as you approach The Shippon, along the quiet, private lane. Set in a tranquil spot in West Cornwall, you’ll be perfectly placed to embrace the relaxed, slow pace of Cornish living. Breathe in the scent of a flower-filled garden and enjoy a dreamy Cornish sunset, or snuggle up by the flickering flames of the woodburner. The two elegant bedrooms provide sanctuaries of slumber, where guests can enjoy a restful night’s sleep. Start the day with an invigorating shower in the master suite and enjoy your morning coffee on the patio, taking in the fresh, countryside air.

The Shippon is just a short distance from both the north and south coasts, with the coastal towns of Hayle, Marazion, St Ives and Penzance within easy reach. Explore the miles of glorious coastal pathways or learn to surf on one of West Cornwall’s golden, sandy beaches. The hustle and bustle of everyday life will seem far away as you listen to the birdsong each morning and enjoy the kaleidoscope of colours as the sun rises. The spacious garden is perfect for enjoying picnics on the lawn, or enjoy a glass of something chilled in the summer house, which is tucked away in a peaceful spot at the end of the garden. In Hayle town you will find a range of shops and bars, a supermarket, charming local pubs and the ‘famous’ Mr B's ice-cream parlour, providing you with a wide range of options for a self catering holiday. The King George V Memorial Walk can be found in the centre of Hayle and is a lovely, level walk, planted with a wonderful selection of unique trees which creates a leafy canopy around the edge of Copperhouse Pool, a large tidal water now a site of special scientific interest. Hayle is renowned for its 3 miles of golden sands, which stretch from Hayle Estuary to Gwithian Towans and Godrevy Point. With good surfing and great views, this safe, unspoilt beach is popular with kite buggies and sand yachts, but as it is lifeguarded in Summer, is a great place to spend a family day out. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall.  The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.

Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

The Shippon is such a lovely cottage, tucked away from the hustle and bustle yet only a few minutes away by car from Hayle and St Ives . We had a lovely relaxing stay here. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable and restorative stay.

Aug 2020

My family have just returned from a wonderful short break at the Shippon. The cottage is beautiful, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The location was great for exploring much of Cornwall, we visited Porthcurno, Praa Sands, Tanglewood Gardens and Mousehole all in one weekend! We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend booking this lovely cottage.

Aug 2020

We had a lovely stay at the shippon, it was very peaceful and a lovely house to stay in, The garden was really nice also plenty of room for parking, we enjoyed many coastal walks which were at the most 30 minutes away by car. I would love to use the shippon again and will definitely suggest it to family and friends.

Aug 2020

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Shippon! Cottage is absolutely beautiful, very well equipped and everything is of a very high standard too! It has everything you could possibly need. The added feature of a parking space and back garden was a great bonus too. We loved the welcome basket too... Thank you! Location is great... It's close enough to enjoy Hayle and St Ives at just a short drive away, but far enough to be away from the hustle and bustle too and just sit and listen to the birds and cows mooing away.

We will definitely be booking here again!
