October 2023

Loved our stay @ Schooners. It was a perfect mix of seclusion and tranquilly, yet still ideally based for local amenities and days out. The house itself has everything you’ll need for your stay and was a joy to come back to after a day of exploring. Have stay in a number of properties in Cornwall and this is definitely one we would return to.

Holidays in Gwithian

Gwithian is a beautiful area of Cornwall and is home to the beautiful Gwithian beach, a popular location for beach sports and surfers. This impressive stretch of sand is immensely popular with sand yachts and kite buggies as well as being a real hot spot for surfers of all abilities.

Gwithian is a coastal village situated in a conservation area and close to National Trust areas. Here you will find a friendly local pub, three cafes offering delicious refreshments and a surf academy. Being just a short drive to the harbour and beach towns of St IvesPenzanceMouseholePorthleven and Marazion, self catering holidays in Gwithian make for a fun packed holiday for all!

Did you know...

Gwithian forms part of a 3 mile long beach that stretches from Hayle Estuary to Godrevy!

Things to do in Gwithian

Surfing

With great surf all year round, it's no wonder it's a popular surf spot with both locals and visitors. Perfect for beginners and advanced surfers, Gwithian is an ideal place to learn and progress. With a local Surf school operating from here, first timers will be up and riding in no time.

Beaches

Gwithian Towans, Hayle Towans and Godrevy offer three miles of golden sands and the most dramatic coastline stretching across to St Ives Bay. At low tide, with such a vast amount of sand, there is plenty of room for everyone – even horses getting their daily exercise. There are large areas of rock pools and intriguing caves which are great for kids to explore. Visit in the evening and you may be treated to a stunning sunset. Read more about Gwithian Towans and other beaches in the area on our blog. It's also worth visiting the rugged cliffs at Hell's Mouth, which is just a 5 minute drive away, where you can park your car for free and enjoy a delicious cream tea in the cafe.

Foraging

Foraging is popular in Cornwall, and Gwithian Towans offers an ideal place to give it a go. Foraging lessons are available, during which you'll discover everything from how to make seaweed crisps, to picking edible flowers. It's certain to be a fun day out for the whole family. Check out our blog post on Wild Food Walks in Cornwall to find out more.

St Gothian Nature Reserve

What was once a commercial sand quarry, this site has since been declared as a nature reserve. The habitat has been improved with the addition of a large pool and other smaller pools which have been fenced off, creating a safe place for wildfowl and waders. Perfect for bird watching. Dog walkers are asked to keep dogs on a lead so as to not disturb the wildlife.

Walking

From Gwithian, you can walk the South West Coast Path all the way to St Ives, and experience some beautiful scenery along the way. Pass through Hayle and Lelant before finally arriving at St Ives Harbour. The walk takes approximately 6 hours so be sure to bring supplies!

Lovely property in a good location. Wheelchair friendly which was great for my mum. 10 minute walk to the beach. Enjoyed our holiday here. Do take capsules for the coffee machine.

Schooner is a superb accommodation, it has everything you could need, spacious and great terrace. Fabulous hot tub! Bedrooms and en-suites were lovely and a surprise hidden den which the little granddaughter loved!

My partner and I took my mother to Schooner - Sandy Acres, for a staycation, choosing it for the location and the fact that it is totally accessible with a wheelchair and electric scooter, due to her mobility issues. The property felt homely, yet lovingly furnished, we loved the quirky lighthouse clock and who doesn't love a colourful Smeg fridge! we highly recommend it for being immaculate, well located and somewhere you look forward returning to, after a day out exploring beautiful nearby destinations.

Thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend at this property. It was warm, clean and modern with comfy beds and high quality kitchen appliances- including a Nespresso pod coffee machine. Being accessible with downstairs bedroom and wet room was perfect for our party. The drinks and scones alongside the jam, cream, milk, tea and coffee was a thoughtful touch. Enjoyed dog walks down to Gwithian beach and the hot tub was a big hit. Hope to visit again soon and will always try to book with Aspects as they are always such a good company to deal with. Thank you.

Incredible accommodation for a week away. House was well equipped and modern but felt comfortable and relaxing. Noise from other houses didn’t travel so it felt peaceful. Hot tub was great and location to the beach and surrounding towns was perfect.

The most stunning property we have ever stayed in. Cannot fault anything. Loved having the hot tub and the location was wonderful. Aspects are a pleasure to deal with and we really appreciated the extra effort the staff went to with Prosecco and balloons for my husband’s 50th birthday. Thank you.

Rockall at Sandy Acres was a wonderful holiday home, we loved every minute of our time there and would love to come back - the accommodation is first class in every sense - and the location was perfect, we love walking and we love beaches, Hayle beach is glorious! Hayle is also ideally situated for trips further afield such as the Minack, Lands End and St Michael’s Mount - just the best and loveliest time - thank you!

Loved the location, the cleanliness of the house and how pet friendly it was (gated decking and no carpets). The house is beautiful and very functional (unlike some other holiday properties). The bluebells at the rear of the property were beautiful and we loved watching the bunnies and foxes go by. Excellent location and short 5-10min walk to the beach which is dog friendly. We would definitely return!

We enjoyed our short break at Sandy Acres. The cottage was lovely exactly like the pictures. Had everything you needed. We loved to take our dog to the beach which was a short walk away and then relaxed in the hot tub afterwards Would definitely recommend it

Perfectly peaceful - lovely week, Gwithian beach walks top.

Wonderful location for a dog-friendly holiday. A fabulous house in our favourite part of Cornwall. And almost on the doorstep miles of beautiful beach and the Beachside cafe in the Sandy Acres carpark (formerly Blue Bay cafe) for the best homemade cakes (and other yumminess).

We had a wonderful week at Rockall, it was the perfect place for my husband, 8 month old baby and dog to have a lovely relaxing week by the sea in what has been a crazy crazy year :)

Awesome location. Nothing better than a warm up in the hot tub after spending hours in the surf!! Perfect getaway from it all and easy access to a perfect surfing beach a massive plus (although save some energy for the walk up the dune afterwards!!!) Cottage perfect place to zone out from modern day stresses. Hayle is also a welcoming town - for surfers “down the line” surf shop were awesome getting us a replacement fin and great for local surf forecast. Cottages are well equipped and have nice added extras for example nespresso compatible coffee machine. Loved it so much back in October!!!!

We have spent the last 3 years at Sandy Acres and loved it every time. We hire wetsuits for the girls from the Shore Surf School and have spent hours in the sea every day. Just make sure the legs are strong for the walk back up the dunes. But the hot tub makes it all worthwhile as well as sitting on the balcony with a drink. And after 3 years we have completed the coastal path from St Ives to Lands end those dune hills have paid off.

Fabulous, luxurious accommodation close to the wonderful Hayle and Gwithian beach. We loved it here and will definitely be coming back. Our girls had great surf lessons and the beach cafe did lovely food. We would highly recommend to families.

We stayed at the beginning of July 2020 just after lockdown was lifted for taking holidays. The house is great had everything you could possibly need....... It is walking distance to the beach but maybe not with all your stuff, there is a car park there just make sure you have a permit from the house owners , to get down to the beach it is down a very steep sand dune and have to climb back up it which is tuff with all you gear ! Lots of different beaches further up the cost little easier to get on to ..... Highly recommend this place ........

A lovely few days enjoying the fabulous lodge and hot tub. We loved coming back and warming up in the tub after the beach and sea.
