Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall.  The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.

Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

We have just returned from a week in Carbis Bay Beach apartments and can only say a big Thank You to Aspects Holidays for their friendly and polite welcome on arrival at the Hayle Office. When we arrived at our apartment, we were delighted with the space, cleanliness and superb views. The grounds are beautifully maintained making this feel home from home. The facilities offered in the apartment are excellent and the welcome pack on arrival is a lovely touch, being able to enjoy a fresh cup of tea or coffee with a treat on the balcony was very appreciated after a long journey. The weather was very kind to us, making this a fabulous weeks break. We are already looking to come back later this year.

Beautifully located apartment with sea views that take your breath away every morning! So well equipped to ensure a convenient and comfortable stay. Can't wait to come back!

Jul 2017

Really good location, handy for St Ives and surrounding areas. Wonderful view from the apartment. Very comfortable and clean accommodation. Lovely beaches all around the area, the apartment is only minutes from the sea. Bit of a climb for those less mobile but there is a short cut through the garden.

Sep 2016

Perfect apartment, wonderful sea views, could want nothing more.

May 2016

The accommodation is first class and helps make the holiday special.

Mar 2016

This is a lovely apartment and the only reason we've booked Sandy Bay for next year instead is because we like the idea of being on the top two floors! It was spotless and decorated in a very welcoming way, with superb views. The welcome hamper and flowers were lovely touches. The only two very small things that would have made our stay ever better were a firmer mattress and a music system that either played CDs or had an ipod dock. However, I can imagine that everyone has their own ideas on how firm a mattress should be, and other guests might find this one perfect for them!

Sep 2015

Beautiful, well equipped flat with stunning views that you could never tire of. The real thing is even more impressive than the pictures . Got quite emotional when we were leaving . We had 2 amazing weeks that I will never forget. Thank you .

Jul 2015

Very comfortable apartment. Sandy, spacious beach with turquoise blue sea. Dreamy.

Jun 2015

I can only repeat what I said earlier that 205 Carbis Beach is a "Lovely apartment that meets al expectations for enjoying a great holiday".

May 2015

We spent a very enjoyable week in this apartment, which enjoyed uninterrupted views of the beach. It was lovely to lie in bed and hear the sound of waves. We have booked another week later in the year and look forward to returning.

Mar 2015

Fantastic sea views, could not fault the apartment, everything is there that you need, a lovely weekend break.

Feb 2015

High class accommodation in a superb position
