December 2023

Absolutely beautiful home and perfectly situated just a 5 minute walk from the beach. The owners had baked a cake to welcome us which was a lovely touch. Thoroughly recommend staying here, very clean and had a south facing garden where we enjoyed dinners a few of the nights. A short drive from Bude too! We will be back!!

Holidays in Widemouth Bay

Widemouth Bay is a beautiful beach, just three miles from the town of Bude. With one and a half miles of golden sand, it’s the perfect place for a relaxing holiday within easy reach of the facilities at Bude.

Situated on the North coast, Widemouth Bay is an open, exposed stretch of coast, ideal for surfers. Equally enjoyed by families, children can explore the rock pools exposed at low tide. With beach cafes, parking and seasonal lifeguards, it’s the perfect day out.

Though Widemouth Bay appears to be one large beach, it’s divided into two beaches. Blackrock, the south end, is privately owned and is dog-friendly all year, perfect if your pooch is joining you on holiday.

Did you know...

Widemouth Bay is the landing point for communications cables linking the UK to other countries?

Widemouth Bay Beach

Of course, the best part of Widemouth Bay is Widemouth Bay Beach - 1.5 miles of glorious sand.

Though it appears to be one large expanse of sand, the beach is actually divided into two sections: the North Beach and the South Beach (also known as Black Rock). This division comes in the form of a barrier of natural rocks - the largest being the landmark known as Black Rock. At low tide, hundreds of rock pools are exposed - perfect to keep the children (and adults) entertained.

Ample parking is available at Widemouth Bay, but if you don't fancy getting your toes sandy, you can park at one of the free viewing areas!

There is a seasonal dog ban on this beach from the 15th May to the 30th September between 10am and 6pm. Outside these hours and from 1st October to 14th May dogs are allowed.

Things to do in Widemouth Bay

If you fancy a change from rock-pooling and making sand castles on the beach, you might like to try surfing. Don't worry if you're a beginner you can take surfing lessons with Freewave Surf Academy or OA Surf Club

There are lots of lovely walks in and around Widemouth Bay. You could try walking to Bude, via Philips Point Nature Reserve, over Efford Down, to the watch tower at Compass Point and then follow the canal into Bude.

If you're looking to explore further afield, check out our blog about things to do in Bude.

Places to eat in Widemouth Bay

There are several eateries in and around Widemouth Bay.

Firstly, The Bay View Inn provides a selection of seasonal classics and food with a twist. They have three separate indoor dining areas, several alfresco dining areas and spaces available for private hire. In peak season, they open a snack shack, serving a variety of take away foods.

Close to the beach, you'll find Black Rock Cafe and Bistro, serving freshly-cooked artisan food. You can enjoy your food inside, or on the deck soaking up the views.

With direct access to the beach, Widemouth Bay Cafe serves all day breakfast, fish and chips, burgers, cream teas and other light snacks.

Slightly outside of Widemouth Bay, Elements Cafe Bar and Restaurant serves a selection of food, specialising in pizza and pasta. The restaurant has beautiful views to enjoy while you dine.

Amazing property in great location. Can’t wait to return. The property is great for a large group and has everything you need.

Have been going to Cornwall for years and this is one of the best properties we have stayed.

From the minute you walk in the door St Padarn feels something special. It is a very well equipped 4 bedroom house. The welcome pack with gorgeous Lemon drizzle cake, Cornish biscuits, local butter, milk and tea saved us going shopping after a long drive. Only a 10 minute walk to Widemouth bay beach. Good waves for bodyboarding. The cleaner arrived early on the day of departure and waited patiently for us to finish packing. Had a lovely chat with her.

Absolutely beautiful property. Loads of space for big families. Eight of us and we never felt cramp or on top of each other. The kitchen diner was perfect to create meals and chat at the same time.

Really short walk to the beach which when you get past the pebbles has amazing rock pools and swimming area policed well by life guards. If you want a peaceful beach holiday then you can’t go wrong.

The Monster Slip n Slide nearby is great fun too.

St Padarn was exceptional. A beautiful property with everything you could want/need. Fully equipped and very well thought out in terms of everyday living cooking, cleaning. Furnished to a high standard, bright, clean and welcoming, a joy to stay in. We are a family of 7 (5 children ranging from teenagers down to toddler) the house provided ample space and amenities for all. The welcome pack and home-baked caked a lovely touch and very well received.

A lovely week with the family. House is spotless and the wonderful goodies, on arrival, went down a treat! The outside space is brilliant - the shower, BBQ, seating area were well used! The twin beds are really small - something to consider. All-in-all a fantastic property in a superb location!

St Padern is a beautiful property, offering everything to make a wonderful stay.

We stayed with 6 adults and a 3 year old. Plenty of space and such a great location, so close to the beautiful beach.

I was fretting about open stairs, should the little one wander at night in strange surroundings. But even that was thought of, retractable stair gates top and bottom, marvellous! (And very unobtrusive should you not have children with you. )

The welcome pack and home made Lemon Drizzle Cake & bottle of wine on arrival were the perfect touch!

We definitely recommend this property & had the best time!

Fantastic property very close to the beach. Very well equipped, comfy beds, very quiet. Great attention to detail. Lots of space, we were 2 families staying together and had ample space for us all. We hope to be back in the summer!

St Padarn is a wonderful house in a perfect location - less than 1 minute walk to the beach. So much space and felt such a treat to stay there. It has everything you need with a taste of luxury. Amazing kitchen with all you could need, comfortable beds and bedding, waterfall showers, plenty of storage space. Thoughtful welcome pack with the most delicious homemade cake too. We didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to go back.

St Padarn was absolutely perfect for our group of 8 - everything that we could possibly need, or think of (!), had been provided. The owners have clearly thought carefully about what a holiday house should have and there were many very thoughtful touches. The location, with a 5 minute walk to the beach and a drive of less than 10 minutes into Bude, was also perfect. We will definitely return!

This property has everything you need, they have thought of everything . There was 7 of us staying and there was plenty of everything for our needs . The beach is at the bottom of the road , and luckily we had great weather all week . Excellent base to explore surrounding area . Bude only 5-10 minutes drive away where there are plenty of shops and supermarkets . Nice restaurants to eat as well . St padarn is an excellent property, with an outside shower to clean off when you come back from the beach and utility room right next to the back door, outside space to eat with gas barbecue. Welcome pack was excellent to get you started ( milk tea bread etc ) . Couldn’t fault anything about the property or service from Aspects

St Padern was by far the best holiday let we have had the pleasure to stay in. A warm welcome awaited us on our honeymoon from both the property owners and the Aspects Team who have been amazing throughout. Thank you. Regarding St Padern, every detail has been carefully considered and thought about from the soft furnishings to the wider decor. The kitchen was equipped to a very high standard with high end crockery, cutlery, coffee machine and a wide range of utensils that left you wanting for nothing. A utility room provided a separate area with a washing machine, dryer and a cleaning sink. An open plan kitchen fed into a large dining area adjacent to a large patio window letting in plenty of light and air. The living room area included two large sofa's and two relaxation chairs from which to view the TV or simply lose yourself in glare of the log burner. Digitally, the house was equipped with Wifi, Sonos and a high spec' TV upon which most platforms could be obtained. The bedrooms were furnished with crisp white linen with the most comfortable mattresses providing the best nights sleep we had in a very long time. The bedrooms were impeccably clean with deep pile carpets and included plenty of storage in wardrobes and drawers. Externally, three tiers of the garden included patio furniture and seating areas with umbrella's, a BBQ, a warm outdoor shower for after the beach and open areas to relax or play with the family. The property is located approximately a 3 minute walk from Widemouth Beach where we spent many happy hours either playing on the beach or watching the most beautiful sunsets. A short journey into Bude takes you past Elements, a great Italian Restaurant and then into the small fishing town where there is plenty to do and see. I genuinely looked really hard at this property and simply could not fault it or negatively critique it in any way. We simply did not want to leave at the end of the week and will surely be back again.

If your thinking of a family holiday you couldn't do any better than staying at St Padarn, beach and restarants all within walking distance GREAT.

St Padarn is a lovely, spacious (indoor & outdoor), well equipped holiday home in a great location. We all had a fabulous week.

This was an amazing house to stay in for the week. It has everything you need and is like home from home. The location is fab with the beach as your door step and Bude just a 10 minute drive. Honestly didn’t want to come home.

We had a super week here at St Padarn with friends. Everyone one of us impressed with the house etc, location for walks and eating out. Gorgeous house. So much thought has been given to clients comfort. Fabulous decking and garden area - a real sun trap, so lovely to relax in. Take in surrounding views.

Super home in a super location.

Had a fantastic stay. The property was equipped to a very high standard and we wanted for nothing. The attention to detail made our holiday extremely comfortable. Would definitely return and would highly recommend St Padarn
