Lovely location if you want some peace and quiet. Comfortable house with the added addition of a log burner in the dining room, We spent most evenings sat around the table playing games and chilling out. It rained all week but that didn’t stop us from going off to Padstow and Wadebridge. We would definitely recommend this house to friends in the future.

December 2023

This was our second stay at Waverley Cottage and we will be rebooking for next year. It’s a lovely, comfortable cottage which is very well equipped.

The games room at the top of the house is particularly welcome to keep the children amused when the weather isn’t the best!

Sadly the Cornish weather wasn’t great this year but we had a wonderful holiday and can highly recommend the cottage.

Holidays in Wadebridge

Making the most of its picturesque location on the river Camel, the charming market town of Wadebridge is a captivating destination for a Cornish holiday.

The scenic town is popular with walkers and cyclists, with idyllic coastal and countryside walking and the Camel Trail cycle route on the doorstep. With some of Cornwall's most beautiful beaches just a short drive away and a fantastic selection of independent boutiques, art galleries, and eateries in the town itself, you’ll have everything you’ll need for a memorable holiday in Wadebridge.

Wadebridge also boasts a whopping events schedule with one of the biggest and best agricultural shows in the south west topping the line-up. Wadebridge is very dog-friendly too, thanks to the South West Coast Path offering excellent walkies, dog-friendly beaches, and a selection of superb local eateries welcoming every kind of patron – dog or human!

Top tip

Hire a bike and cycle the Camel Trail to Padstow and back.

Beaches in Wadebridge

Wadebridge might not be slap-bang on the Cornish coast, but it still enjoys a close proximity to some of North Cornwall’s most beautiful beaches.

Rock – Popular with locals, visitors, and even royals, Rock beach should be top of anyone’s list when visiting Wadebridge. Lie back and enjoy the view from the golden sands, venture into the waters for some refreshing fun, or hop on the water taxi and visit Padstow for a bite to eat and a wander!

Daymer Bay – Lined with dunes and sand hills, and dog-friendly all year round, Daymer Bay has become a popular haunt with families looking for somewhere to let the pack go wild. Although there are no lifeguards here, this sheltered bay is great for swimming, while Braey Hill provides a jaw-dropping place to soak up the surrounding views.

Polzeath – A good one for those wanting to try their hand at surfing, Polzeath combines sand and surf for maximum effect. Visiting this dog-friendly beach at low tide will reward you with an insane amount of sand to enjoy, perfect for some beachside ball games with the family.

Things to do in Wadebridge

Whether you fancy a bit of retail therapy or you want to swap the shore for the sea and head out on an exhilarating boat trip, there is much to see and do in Wadebridge during your stay.

The Camel Trail

Connecting Wadebridge, Padstow, and Bodmin, this scenic cycling trail has been created on the old railway line. The whole trail is 18 miles long and is totally traffic-free and quite level ground, making it ideal for every ability. Hire bikes in Wadebridge and cycle alongside the estuary to Padstow, or through countryside and woodland to Bodmin.

Walking

Wadebridge is home to Saints Way, a 16-mile cross-country walking route that was forged in ancient times by Celtic saints between Padstow and Fowey. The walk takes you past pretty creeks and villages, and through the ancient town of Lostwithiel. Bodmin Moor and the South West Coast Path are also nearby, both of which are fantastic for walking and well worth an exploration or two.

Boat trips & Watersports

The river Camel estuary is a playground for activities on the water, with boat trips running between Padstow and Rock, speedboat tours, and watersport lessons and hire. You can have a go at stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, water-skiing, or banana boating, which is exactly as fun as it sounds!

Shopping

Wander the streets of Wadebridge and you'll be spoilt for choice with independent shops, boutiques, and galleries - not to mention a cracking line up of antiques shops. Pop into Winifred and Mabel for some handmade gifts, Quirky Boutique for a new look, or Wadebridge Bookshop for something to read on the beach. And if you’re looking for a one-stop-shop for all your retail needs, a trip to Hawksfield is a Cornish must, which boasts clothing, art galleries, eateries, and even vintage vehicles!

We stayed in Waverley cottage for approximately 5 and a half hours before deciding to drive the 6 hour trip back home. These 5.5 hours generally consisted of us trying to find reasons to stay. The description of entering Waverley cottage was inaccurate as it had not detailed the correct amount steps which needed to be climbed to gain access to the property. In reality there were more steps involved which proved too difficult for our relative who is mobility wise limited. (Since complaint about this the description has been rectified). The shower (of which there were no photos of in the advert) was less than satisfactory. It is accessed by going through the dining room and the kitchen into a type of conservatory room which could be viewed by from outside. The shower itself we refused to use. Upstairs in the front bedroom we found a pile of dead wood lice underneath the bed which really was the last straw. Aspects holidays representative (Sharon) was very helpful but it did not make up for our holiday being completely ruined . It was our decision not to stay in the property and although we did not wait for resolution to the problems we encountered there was no chance any of us were going to use the shower!

We are very sorry for the error in the written description. There were several photos that clearly showed these steps and the pathway, but we completely accept that the written description was not accurate, and we are very sorry if the access was not what you had expected as a result. We changed this as soon as you made us aware, just in case other potential guests do not look at the photos. We have passed on your feedback about the shower room, to the property owner, for their consideration, and passed on your comments to the owners housekeeper as well, to ensure that they fully check the property during a clean. We would always advise that guests with any mobility considerations or health concerns that could impact upon your choice of property, contact the team before booking, so that we can help you in selecting the most suitable property to meet all your requirements, so if you are ever booking through us again, please do not hesitate to get in touch so that we can help. Sadly the Cornish weather wasn’t great this year but we had a wonderful holiday and can highly recommend the cottage.

Fab holiday in this spacious cottage just outside of Wadebridge.

I loved Waverley Cottage and I felt unbelievably relaxed during my stay. The bed was really comfortable, there was constant hot water, a spacious kitchen diner and inviting lounge, both with log burners. The area was peaceful but within east access to pubs, restaurants, shops and beaches. I loved everything about the cottage including all the pretty decorations within the property and the wealth of flowers and plants in the sunny garden. It was my birthday when I was there and the owners even arranged for some fizz and chocolates to be delivered. I couldn’t fault my stay and I look forward to returning to continue my discovery of Cornwall! Thank you so much! X

House was very warm, good quality bedding used. Down stairs shower area lets the house down a little would be better in the large upstairs bathroom Bring your walking boots as there are lots of good walks in the area Be prepared for the narrow lanes in the area when traveling in the car.

Waverley Cottage... On our way home after a lovely stay in this charming and surprisingly warm cottage. Really nice towels and bedding provided. Stone floors downstairs makes it ideal for a dog stay in Winter! As a townie, I really loved coming back from a long walk to a wood burner. Stunning beaches nearby. We also had a visit from the resident peacock that's been in the village for the last couple of months!

Had a lovely week at waverly cottage the house is beautiful great location just a very narrow road to get to the cottage

Comfortable cottage. Huge bath, lovely location very quiet Sunny front garden Enjoyed our stay very much

We have just returned from a super stay at Waverley Cottage and will be booking to return next year.

The cottage was a hidden gem and very tranquil and well-appointed. Very comfortable, plenty of books, games and kitchen equipment to satisfy foodies and young children. As other reviewers have mentioned the kitchen worktops are weirdly high, but that didn’t spoil our week. There were some minor maintenance issues on arrival but these were quickly resolved.

The stairs are steep and there are different levels between bedrooms and bathrooms which might be challenging for very young children (fine for ours at 6 & 8).

A great location for exploring the surrounding areas, access to Wadebridge and for beaches.

A point to note, we put the cottage postcode into the satnav and got directed down some VERY narrow lanes - should have put in Wadebridge to start with and then found the cottage.

We are glad to hear how much you liked Waverley Cottage, so much so that you are looking to return. Unfortunately, Cornwall is notorious for its narrow country roads and satnavs will often take you down the shortest routes, not considering that they are generally slower due to the narrow width and delays from stopping to let other vehicles pass. The team who are local to the properties, write the directions with their knowledge of the best and easiest routes, so it is always worth following these, rather than just using the postcode to find a property. Hopefully that will help to make the arrival a little easier and less stressful. Thanks for your helpful comments and we hope to see you back again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

A lovely week at Waverley cottage! The welcome pack was a treat and the beds very comfortable. Great location for visiting the coast. Only an hour and a half from Porthcurno and an hour from Falmouth so plenty to do and see whatever the weather. Great to have use of attic space with x-box! There is limited hanging space in 2 of the bedrooms however and not much furniture/lamps or bins in any of the rooms so it can feel a little stark when the weather is gloomy. The wood burner is fabulous though in the lounge! Kitchen well equipped and there’s even games to play on wet evenings. Good cupboard space for groceries and a fab fridge/freezer. Downstairs shower does need a little refresh but use of such a large utility room was great for drying wet clothes! The driveway of the house behind does run right up to the kitchen wall but you don’t hear or see anyone so it’s not a problem- more of a surprise when you see the car tail lights! Good heating & hot water- easy to use or to add an extra hour as house doesn’t get a lot of natural daylight due to its stone cottage thick walls. Would visit again.

Waverley Cottage is certainly in a great spot for exploring Cornwall; we are glad that you enjoyed it there. We have passed on all your feedback and suggestions to the property owner for their future consideration. Thanks for sending these in, and hopefully we will see you back here again soon. Fantastic pet friendly cottage. Wadebridge is lovely. Lots of dining options nearby, including gluten free.

Lovely cottage

We had a fabulous stay at Waverley cottage it’s warm and cosy and lovely spacious rooms. Drive way was plenty of room and the welcome pack and information was fab thank you

Great location for biking/walking. Lots of places nearby to visit. Very nice clean property with everything you would need.

Lovely spacious cottage, very peaceful. Need to be prepared to go out by car most days as very little in the way of walks from the cottage.

I wish we could give a good review of this cottage but we were very disappointed. On the plus side it was very clean on arrival, the living room is comfortable, the fridge/freezer is huge, there is ample room for food storage and the dining table gives plenty of space for meal times. However other issues really let this cottage down. The only shower is accessed via the kitchen and utility area which are both very over looked by the property to the rear and there are no privacy blinds. The kitchen equipment is of low quality and the worktops are extremely high - chest height for a 5 foot 4 female. The parking is fine for one car but unless cars are smaller than average it would be extremely tricky for 2 cars.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are very sorry to read that you were disappointed on this occasion with your stay at Waverley Cottage. As per each description, we do our very best to write the walk through in a way that guests will know exactly where each room is and with this property, we make it clear to any guest wanting to book the cottage, that the shower room is located through the kitchen and to the other side of the utility room. With having no previous comments regarding the shower room being overlooked and upon speaking with the owners, we can see that there is a 6ft fence that is placed on the raised patio which would avoid any overlooking into the bathroom area. If you are in fact meaning that the exit to the utility into the kitchen is something that is overlooked, which we understand has no blinds and is therefore overlooking the rear of the property, the owner is taking this into account and looking to get blinds installed to that area of the property. When it comes to the parking, the owner has taken the time to contact us to confirm that they have had an Audi Q3 and Landrover Discovery parked beside each other in the space that is available to guests and having seen the images to help reassure us of this, we are confident that the space is to an appropriate size for 2 cars. The kitchen worktops are of a slightly higher height than most standard kitchens, but the owners will certainly keep this monitored moving forward. We thank you again for your feedback and hope to see you again soon. Lucy, Customer Services

Love Waverley cottage and it’s quiet location but only 20 mins drive to so many places and some lovely walks from the doorstep.

Lovely spacious property. Very peaceful. Beautiful local walks.

Beautiful cottage in lovely, peaceful village location and well provided in terms of equipment. Comfortable bed with lovely fresh linen and towels provided and thoughtful welcome package on arrival (milk, tea, coffee, wine and nibbles). Nice specification throughout although disappointed with the shower room and parking could be tight / difficult for 2 cars. Lots of nice coastal walks to be had in surrounding areas and lovely front garden.

Beautiful cottage in a quiet location, really enjoyed our weeks stay to wind down and relax after a hectic year.

Waverley cottage was welcoming but driveway was was tight if you have big cars and more than one be aware as there isn’t any off street parking . The location was excellent with beautiful little village shops . We used Waverley cottage as a base which was excellent however if you have dogs please be aware the garden isn’t dog proof .

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed Waverley Cottage. It certainly is in a great location isn't it? Ideal for exploring this beautiful part of the country! It is definitely worth bearing in mind that the garden is only partially enclosed, if you are bringing your dog with you. We try to make this as clear as possible within the description, so we do hope that this was what you had expected. The access to the parking is on the narrow side, which could prove more difficult for some. Our Property Manager for that area will get some measurements next time she is over that way, so that we can better advise guests in future. Thank you for your helpful feedback on this. We hope that we will see you here in Cornwall again soon and thank you again for your review. Lucy, Customer Services

The property is well located and has had some modernisation with a good kitchen and dining area. All of the property needs finishing off to this standard.

A very attractive and well-appointed house in excellent condition. It was very comfortable, lovely finishing touches, clean and well equipped. The welcome pack was a lovely gesture and went down well with everyone! The ‘games room’ was a great additional benefit which the boys made good use of and gave us adults some peace and quiet! The location was quiet and tucked away but everything is just a short drive away. There are also some lovely walks to be had from the house which Lola our Labrador especially enjoyed. The owners have taken real care and consideration and this shows in every detail including the comprehensive information booklet.

Waverley Cottage is in a stunning location and provides a very comfortable, spacious and relaxing space for a family holiday. It is exceptionally well kept and clean, especially as it is pet friendly. It was a pleasure every time we came back from a day out to look up and see the house and front garden area, we were sorry to leave and can’t wait to return again soon.
