Great little find! Would definitely recommend and come again. Porthtowan is a small seaside village which doesn’t have all the trappings of some of the larger Cornish locations, but that is exactly what we wanted for our week away. The accommodation was lovely, very clean and more than enough room for the five of us to have a comfortable stay!

August 2023

Very nice house, clean and tidy and equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We are a family of 8 and had plenty of room. Loved the open plan kitchen/dining and living room….meaning quality family time. We made the most of the outside area to the front grassed area. There was a small yard at the back for privacy if needed. A 5 minute walk to the beautiful beach and a bar. There is also a park area. When the tide was out there is a rock pool and little beaches to explore. Just to warn you there is an uphill walk back up to the house. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would go back.

Holidays in Porthtowan

Porthtowan is the ideal location to enjoy a self catering holiday in Cornwall. With scenic coastal path walks and a tidal pool hidden in the cliffs, Porthtowan proves to be the perfect base to explore the surrounding north coast. The village provides your daily essentials and there is a charming pub, beachside bar and surf hire.

Situated between St Ives and Newquay, Porthtowan is well located for those looking to visit these popular coastal towns. It’s also secluded enough to escape the crowds and relax in a hidden area of Cornwall. Close to Perranporth and St Agnes, Porthtowan is perfect for exploring the sandy beaches in this area and enjoying the stunning views along the South West Coast Path.

Did you know...

'Porth' means 'beach' and 'towan' means 'dunes' in Cornish.

Surfing in Porthtowan

Close to the rugged cliffs and a stunning sandy beach, yet sheltered by adjoining rolling fields; Porthtowan is in the heartland of traditional Cornwall. There is a vibrant surf scene in the village with a nearby surf school, surf hire facilities and lots of opportunity to enjoy outdoor pursuits. Although secluded, you’re also close to Newquay and Portreath which are both renowned surf spots. Read more on our blog about surf spots in Cornwall.

Eating out in Porthtowan

The Blue Bar beachside restaurant sits literally on the beach and serves delicious meals and bar snacks. There is plenty of outdoor seating where you can enjoy watching the waves and is exceptionally beautiful in the evening as the sun sets.

Nearby, you also have two pubs; the 17th century Victory Inn, and the Unicorn, both serving up fresh local food.

Walks around Porthtowan

Situated on the South West Coast Path, Porthtowan is ideal for those looking to explore. Coastal walks in this area offer stunning ocean views but venture inland and you’ll find many examples of Cornwall’s mining heritage. Take the circular walk from Porthtowan to Chapel Porth and you’ll find Wheal Coates engine house and the mining remains of Chapel Combe.

There are seasonal dog restrictions on Porthtowan beach between 15th May and 30th September between the hours of 10am and 6pm. Outside of these hours it is dog friendly as well as being dog friendly between 1st October and 14th May. If you do bring a dog, the nearby beach of Bassett’s Cove is to the west of Porthtowan and allows dogs on the beach all year round.

We have been going on holiday to porthtowan for 40 years and are so happy that we have found Towan Valley. Ding Dong had everything we needed for a great holiday.

Good size , close to the beach, very well equipped

Ding Dong is lovely. We had a super time and will hopefully go back very soon. No complaints at all just perfect. It’s on a steep hill so if you have difficulty with your mobility it might be a bit hard going. If you want a lovely holiday this is the place to go. Fully equipped everything you need.

Highly recommend Ding Dong as a property and in terms of its vicinity to the beach.

Great location for our family holiday. The property made for a very comfy and enjoyable stay. Lovely being able to walk to the beach and bars. Plenty of space in the accommodation. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic service for booking to leaving the property, highl yrecommended, great location and everything you need. Family 7 adult with two small children. Plenty of space for all.

We had an amazing time at Ding Dong! Porthtowan is such a brilliant little place that we can't believe we didn't discover sooner! It has everything you need from a fabulous beach, Fish and Chips, Two Pubs, a cafe, a lovely little village store, a gift shop, ice cream and even a park for the kids.

Ding Dong it's self was just perfect. It was really clean and spacious, it had everything we needed and more. The beds were really comfy too, especially the Super King in the master Bedroom! It was modern and spacious enough for all of us and the location was perfect.

The Owners have nailed it!

We will definitely book again! Thank you!

We stayed at Ding Dong a few weeks ago! What cam I say it was so much more than we was expecting! Clean, comfortable and very spacious! Great location as well! We will definitely be rebooking

Excellent week at Ding Dong, very well equipped property, excellent location. Weather was fab for September, short walk to the beach downhill (seamed further going back uphill ??) and great bodyboarding conditions. Great little surf shop and gift/beach shop near the beach plus ice creams and coffee. Booked to return next year.

Had the most amazing weeks stay at ding dong, the apartment was to the highest standard, clean and well kept up, was well equipped and it was home from home, thank you so much for a perfect holiday

Expectations are often high when booking holiday accommodation, but in the case of Ding Dong, everything promised - and more - all met with our high hopes which in tern ensured our holiday was fully enjoyed.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Ding Dong for a stay in Cornwall.

Excellent location and house had everything we needed. Quality of all furnishings and equipment in house was first class. 5 minute walk to beach and easy drive to the rest of the coast. Some lovely coastal walks from Porthtowan. Would recommend Blue Bar for eating & drinking. Small menu but food and atmosphere excellent. Much better than The Unicorn which we found to be overpriced for average quality food. Catch the sunset from the Blue Bar - gorgeous.

Spotlessly clean property. Very quiet location. Local beach 5 minute walk downhill (slightly longer coming back up the hill). Excellent base for exploring other parts of Cornwall. Would definitely go back

Had a great week down at ding dong, lovely accommodation comfortable and well equipped. Only a shot week down to the small beach which grows to a good size when the tide is out. Ideal for surfing.

Only a short walk down the beach didn’t find the hill too bad to walk.

Excellent accommodation, finished to a high standard

Fantastic location, close to the beach and facilities

Highly recommended

Up a quiet, one track lane, Ding Dong is one of a group of similar properties. Convenient parking and welcoming home for the week (or so!). Lovely, clean house with the majority of things you may need for cooking, etc. We had a comfortable stay and look forward to returning! (If you can, do watch the sunsets at one of the nearby coasts. Incredible!)

A really enjoyable stay,i would recommend Ding Dong for anyone looking for a value for money holiday in Cornwall.

Ding Ding is a well equipped ,spacious property in a quiet ,peaceful valley with a lovely beach a short walk of around 5-10 minutes away. The property has everything you need for your holiday and very comfortable beds! There is a slight incline walking back from the village / beach to the property but it is not far. We all had a lovely time in Porthtowan staying at this property.

This was our first holiday booked with Aspect Holidays who were very efficient and professional from start to finish.

Perfect space for a family to spend time together. Fabulous location with the beach a short walk away.
