Holidays in Newquay

Holidays in Newquay are all about stunning scenery, beaches, and, of course, waves. As it’s the surf capital of the UK, you’ll find an abundance of surf shops and schools allowing you to immerse yourself in the surfing culture from the moment you arrive, whether you just want to watch or get stuck in.

However, if surfing isn’t for you, there are plenty of ways to fill the days while staying in the stunning beachside town of Newquay. Head to one of the many beaches for a family day on the sand - picture rock pooling, picnics, and sandy toes! Or, if you fancy a bit of retail therapy, the bustling town has a selection of independent shops selling an array of goods including clothes, artwork, and delightful handmade treats – not to mention a mouth-watering selection of cafés, bars, and restaurants for a mid-shopping or post-beach refuel.

Newquay also has a selection of attractions and events, perfect for the kids (and big kids) from a wild and wonderful zoo to a round of golf by the sea. There are also some great walks in the area thanks to the beautiful South West Coast Path, perfect for a dog-friendly Cornish getaway.

Did you know...

Newquay has nine sandy beaches to choose from!

Beaches in Newquay

When staying at a holiday cottage in Newquay, you won’t be short of aquatic adventures, with lots of sandy beaches on your doorstep. All of Newquay’s beaches are lifeguarded in the summer, providing a safe place to spend the day soaking up the sun.

Fistral beach – What do you call the best beach for surfing in the UK? Fistral! With the most consistent surfing in the country and great swathes of golden sand, there’s little doubt as to why surfers flock here from all over the place. You’ll find a surf school and wetsuit hire for those wanting to travel light and it’s dog friendly all year round for those travelling with furry companions.

Watergate Bay – Second on Newquay’s surfing scoreboard, Watergate Bay offers a seriously spacious alternative to Fistral whether you fancy a surf, a stroll or a hot chocolate in the beachside café.

Crantock beach – If you prefer a quieter beach backed by sand dunes then Crantock beach won’t disappoint. Dog-friendly and perfectly sheltered on the southern end, this sandy haven is popular with families and anyone looking for a place to doze in the sand.

Newquay Towan – Right in the centre of the town, Newquay Towan is great for quick dips and sandy escapes while you explore the surrounding shops, attractions, and perhaps even a bar or two!

Great Western, Porth, Whipsiderry, Tolcarne, Lusty Glaze, and Mawgan Porth are also fantastic beaches in Newquay. Read all about them in our extended guide and discover your favourite!

Things to do in Newquay

With quick access to the rugged north Cornish coast and some fun-fuelled attractions and activities, there are lots of great things to do in Newquay.

Surfing & Watersports

Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, the beaches of Newquay offer something for every ability, weather forecast, and tide. And it’s not just surfing on offer either. Bring your own seafaring devices or hire kayaks and paddleboards from one of the many rental shops around.

Attractions

With such an abundance of attractions in and around Newquay, it’s the perfect place for a family holiday at any time of year. Newquay Zoo offers a great day out, as do the nearby Screech Owl Sanctuary and the Blue Reef Aquarium. For those who love animals and theme park rides, Dairyland Farm Park is the place to be while Trerice Manor House offers a beautiful walk through history.

If you fancy something a bit different, fishing trips and sea safaris are available, from which you can take in the scenery from a different angle. You may even be lucky enough to catch a sight of seals and dolphins!

Newquay Golf Club overlooks Fistral beach and is regarded as one of the best golf courses in the county, providing a different challenge every day depending on the weather, all with incredible sea views.

Shopping

From beach supplies to holiday mementoes, Newquay’s streets are lined with lots of interesting shops from big names to independent favourites. Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of surf shops where you can fill up your beachy wardrobe including Married to the Sea, Boardwalk Surf Shop, Watershed, and Ann’s Cottage – some even have surfboards too so you can really kit yourself out. Razzmatazz is an eclectic mix of fun, holiday take-homes and Lucky Go Happy provides a lovely selection of ethical bits and bobs for the whole family.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, a trip to Roly’s Fudge Pantry or Cornish Cream will see it satisfied as you’ll find a fantastic array of Cornish chocolates, fudge, and even Cornish cream tea hampers (which make for the ultimate beachside picnic).

Walks

With the north Cornish coast right on your doorstep, it will come as little surprise that Newquay is jam-packed with incredible walks. Walk around Park Head (which you might recognise from Poldark) and Pentire Steps for some stunning coastal views or trudge along to Lappa Valley where you can swap the rippling blue of the sea for the dappled shade of the woods. You’ll also find a lovely area around the Porth Reservoir and surrounding wildlife reserve, giving wildlife watchers plenty of opportunities to whip the binoculars out.

Dining out

Newquay's vibrant foodie scene has grown and grown over the years, with the town now offering something for every taste and occasion. If you want to eat out, you’ll find a huge selection of eateries, including many beach cafés and restaurants serving up locally caught seafood with incredible sea views. Or, if you fancy something special after a day surfing the waves, check out the many fantastic fine dining options or cocktail bars for a relaxing drink.

If you want to stay in and make the most of your lovely home from home, there are some excellent farmshops and delis in the area, including the welcoming Trevilley Farm for all your locally-produced needs or Malcolm Barnecutt Bakery for some seriously moreish fresh bakes.

Dog-friendly Newquay

If you want to bring your four-legged friend with you on your Cornish holiday, you couldn’t pick a better spot than Newquay where you’ll find plenty of great dog walks.

Dog-friendly beaches

Fistral beach – Surf, sea, and sandy paws, it’s all waiting for you at Fistral beach 365 days a year.

Watergate Bay – With miles of sand and lots of rockpools and caves to sniff out at low tide, this dog-friendly beach is a favourite with dogs and humans alike.

Whipsiderry beach – Considered a hidden gem by many, dogs are welcome throughout the year on Whipsiderry so why not take a dog-nap in the sand before checking out those rock formations!

Mawgan Porth beach – with Bedruthan Steps a short walk away and lots of sand for zoomies, the beach at Mawgan Porth is great for tuckering out the pooch (and the kids).

You can also see these beaches from the water, as many of the boat trips in the area welcome seadogs aboard!

Dog-friendly pubs and restaurants

When it comes to dinner time, there are plenty of dog-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafés where the whole pack can shake the day off and refuel.

Lewinnick Lodge – Perfectly placed up on the cliffs on the Pentire Headland, Lewinnick Lodge offers sea views with your meal, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or evening drinks with the pooch by your side.

Lakeside Café – Another dreamy spot for a bite to eat, Lakeside Café not only provides delicious treats for its human guests but for its doggie guests too – homemade dog ice cream should get those tails wagging!

The Old Albion Inn – 400 years old with no signs of slowing down, The Old Albion has truly perfected its welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy the thatched roof as you enter and the fully-stocked bar when you’re inside.

What's on in Newquay

Whether you love music and surfing, beer or food, there’s a festival in Newquay for you…

Hitting the cliffs in June, Cornwall’s inaugural Street Food Festival brings cuisines from all over the world together as people celebrate great food and great views.

Boardmasters

This surf and music festival seems to get bigger every year as thousands descend on Newquay's Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay to watch surf competitions and live music while sampling all that Newquay has to offer.

Newquay Beer Festival

What our guests say...

We know how important honest reviews are when it comes to booking your holiday. To help you choose the right property for you, we publish all reviews left by guests who have stayed here in the past, with the few exceptions stated in our Review Guidelines. Please bear in mind that some facilities referred to by past guests in reviews can be removed or changed at any time.

We’ve just returned from our second stay here and enjoyed it just as much as the first. The extra touches are very thoughtful and much appreciated. We’re already working out when we can return next year.

We've been to Newquay area many times and this apartment I would say is one of the best we have stayed in. I would certainly recommend it to future guests and I would return without hesitation.

Returned for another stay in this lovely apartment, just love the view and area and all the little extra’s that the owner leaves for you on arrival. It’s beautifully furnished and comfortable and in an ideal location close to bars and restaurants and some beautiful walks along the coast

Absolutely perfect apartment, ideal location, everything within walking distance, beautiful views. Blown away by the extra attention to detail. Very clean. Beautifully decorated. Can’t wait to visit again. Didn’t want to leave! The owner was very friendly & chatty.

Beautiful place to stay, ideal for Fistral beach and town itself. This appt is like a home not a holiday let. There is everything you need to stay here and also things you didn’t think to bring! I personally found the bed a little hard but that’s just my preference as my husband loved it. Beautiful views, don’t forget your binoculars!!

We Absolutely Love staying at no6 harvest moon it's an amazing apartment to stay in, it's like home from home. The owner is lovely too. We Love the little extra touches of treats, pamper packs and the cream tea for us humans and then our little pooch has treats left for his stay too. There is a Beautiful view of Towan Beach from the balcony. Perfect location, less than 10 mins walk to both Fistral and Towan beach. Pubs , shops, cafes and Sainsbury's all within 10 minutes walk. We only have to wait 6 weeks, then we return to this beautiful home from home apartment. Thank you for our wonderful holiday.

We booked this place because of other’s reviews, so now we have the opportunity to share our incredible experience in 6 Harvest Moon. In short, it’s a little gem. From the moment you open the door, you are wrapped in warmth and comfort, like a big, fluffy blanket. The attention to detail is remarkable, like nothing we have ever experienced before in a holiday letting. The accommodation is fully equipped to meet almost everyone’s needs, with additional extras and treats (we especially loved the scones ??). The location of the apartment is just perfect, we didn’t have to touch the car once as everything is in walking distance, and the view is breathtakingly outstanding, the best way to start the morning and finish the night. We are definitely returning and can’t wait to do so. ????

6 Harvest Moon is a wonderful apartment. Very spacious and decorated well. Everything was provided and lovely welcome gifts for the kids and dog. It's a very quiet area except for the seagulls, they are the noisiest around. Local shops and beaches are in walking distances. Only the sofas are the only thing to moan about. The are on the low side for us and the cushions kept sliding forward. But all in all, we would love to return again.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your lovely feedback, it's great to hear you had such a great stay you'd love to come again. While some may find the sound of seagulls to be part of the Cornish experience, we do appreciate that the local wildlife can make themselves heard on some occasions! It's a shame that you found the sofas to be uncomfortable and low. It is incredibly difficult to find furniture to suit all comfort preferences, but we will continue to monitor feedback on this over the coming months so thank you for letting us know. Katy, Customer Services.

The accommodation and attention to detail were brilliant. Loved the sea view and its proximity to the best beach in Newquay Fistral was ace. Loved all the extras - milk, scones, jam and cream - very thoughtful The cleanliness was brilliant could not fault it.

Lovely, well equipped apartment. Very homely, spotlessly clean and well presented. Very good location, close to beaches and town.

We had a fantastic stay at Harvest Moon. Everything about it was perfect. On arrival we had Easter treats and pamper packs and our dog even had his own treats, blanket ,food and water bowls. The cleanliness was 100% and it had everything you need to make it a proper 'home from home'. The views and location were amazing. We will definitely be booking next year.

Absolutely amazing appartment , every detail thought about and cleanliness was of exceptional standard . Lovely little extra touches of treats and pamper pack, was extremely thoughtful and much appreciated . Beautiful view of the sea on the balcony , where I spent every morning with a cuppa. Perfect location, less than 10 mins walk to both Fistral and Towan beach. Pubs , shops, cafes and Sainsbury's all within 10 minutes walk. Concrete waves skate park, leisure centre, trampoline park and zoo all in 10 minutes drive for the kids. Will definitely recommend to all and return for another holiday . Thank you for our wonderful holiday .

We’ve been going to Newquay for nearly 20 years and this has to be one of our favourite places to stay. It was lovely to walk into somewhere so comfortable and relaxing and all the little touches and extra’s really made it feel homely. The beds are comfortable and the apartment is nice and spacious, quiet too. Plenty of parking at this time of year. Ideally situated for getting to all areas of Newquay. We didn’t want to come home, we will definitely be back.

Everything you could wish for a relaxing holiday home. All amenities close to the apartment. And all the little things that make your arrival so nice. Coffee, tea, milk and of course the scones. Definitely one we want to book again

Absolutely fab apartment. 3rd time staying. Love it ??

This is our 3rd stay in 6 harvest moon and we've many more visits to look forward to in 2023.

The apartment is perfect in every way if you are looking to stay in Newquay. The apartment is amazing it’s a little piece of heaven and feels like home away from home, it’s situated brilliantly and within walking distance to all shops, bars, restaurants. The welcome tray which consists of a "cream tea," and a stocked fridge consisting of milk, and cream for the scones and coffee and tea was a lovely added extra and our little dog was treated too with little doggy nibbles, bowls and a little blanket. To me it showed me that the owner knows how to take care of her holiday makers and furry friends. The apartment was central to all the beautiful beaches that Newquay has to offer. Parking was never a issue either. There is nothing negative to say about 6 harvest moon. It's Simply a Wonderful apartment.

Roll on 2023, as I can't wait to return.

On arrival the apartment from the outside doesn't look much, but once you open the door and walk in, wow what a lovely surprise. Very spacious, lovely decor, and a amazing view from the balcony and bedroom window. We found the location perfect, close to pubs, restaurants, shops, beaches all in walking distance. The lovely touch of the welcome pack was very much appreciated by us all, thank you

A beautiful apartment central to Newquay town and beaches. Everything from booking to arriving and staying was straight forward. A lovely welcome package of essentials and an afternoon tea to welcome us as a family and even the dog was left a welcome pack. Everything you need is in the apartment and all to a very high spec. Added bonus of a parking permit within the grounds. Beautiful views from the balcony.

Lovely apartment. Lots of additional touches including a welcoming cream tea . Lots of attention to detail . Beautiful balcony . Great location, fabulous view. Only a few minutes from the town and beaches. Would highly recommend.

Excellent property in great location, lovely decorations and furnishings, booked again for next year, only suggestion would be summer duvets as the winter duvets were very warm for our June stay

We have stayed in quite a number of properties in Cornwall but we liked this one the most. Really high quality furniture/furnishing. Lovely touches - chocolates, milk in the fridge and a cream tea on arrival! Very spacious and homely. Great view and great location! We will be back??

We have stopped in many apartments all over Newquay over the years, mostly on Headland rd. As a family, we all agreed that Harvest Moon was one of our favorites We will be looking to return in the future. Thank you for the little touches that made a difference. Including the items for our Dog Hurley The Orton Family & Hurley

6 Harvest Moon is a beautifully decorated apartment with some really nice touches, some of which were so nice that we copied them for our house when we got home. Exceptionally clean and a high standard of equipment throughout. The lovely seaviews from the balcony where perfect for sitting out at the bistro table with a glass of wine in a quiet area of the town, perfect location for Fistral Beach and the harbour, would definitely recommend. The cream tea and stocked fridge was a really nice extra from the friendly ladies we met as we arrived, thank you for everything.

We just spent an amazing week 11-18th September at harvest moon..

The apartment is amazing it’s a little piece of heaven and feels like home away from home, it’s situated brilliantly and within walking distance to all shops, bars, restaurants and take away if required…

We had the pleasure of meeting Lorraine the owner and she’s a very warm&caring person who takes pride in her apartment making it feel homely and relaxing with all the special little touches she’s added…

Our wee Lhasa apso settled in straight away which never happens anywhere we go he takes a few days to settle but not here he was right at home as soon as we got through the door..

So if your thinking of booking don’t hesitate or your required dates might be gone!

Lorraine thank you again for everything you did to help us when we arrived and on leaving ???? We will be returning to this amazing apartment and location ?????? ?? xx

Marie, Phil & Max ??

Dont hesitate to book this lovely apartment it as everything you could need. Lovely decoration and full of personal touches. Easy walk to town and a lovely walk down to the beach and the fistrel beach bar and various eateries. One of the best places we have stayed. One thing to note it's not really suitable for the infirm as steep steps up to entrance.

What a fantastic apartment 6 harvest moon is. The apartment was spotless and very well decorated we immediately felt at home. The welcome tray which consists of of a "cream tea," was a lovely added extra and our little dog was treated to little doggy nibbles, bowls and a little blanket. To me it showed me that the owner knows how to take care of their holiday makers and furry friends. The apartment was central to all the beautiful beaches that Newquay has to offer and central to the shops and restaurants and of course the legendary and well known "Red lion" pub, where we spent most of our evenings. Parking was never a issue either. There is nothing negative to say about 6 harvest moon. It's Simply a Wonderful apartment and I've already booked up for 2022. And I can't wait to return. Even the cleaner who we bumped into on the day we arrived was chatty and happy.

Just returned from a fabulous holiday at 6 Harvest Moon. Spacious and very clean apartment, one of the best we've stayed in, will definitely return! The little extras that were left for all members of the family were greatly received - even the dog enjoyed his bag of treats. Thank you very much!

The location was excellent but that’s about it. The apartment was a great size too. But we had countless issues with cleanliness, decorations falling off and hitting my 1 year old and bad communication from the company also.

Delightful well equipped apartment in an excellent location. The apartment was beautifully decorated and maintained and the cream tea awaiting us was just what we needed after a long journey. The little extras went down well with my two teenage daughters. The car park can be tight at busy times so please be considerate.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 6 Harvest Moon. It is beautifully furnished and decorated to a high standard. The owner has thought of everything possible for the comfort of their guests. The personal touches on arrival of a cream tea and little chocolates & pamper packs in each bedroom really made the welcome special. The views from the apartment of the beaches are stunning. The apartment is the perfect place to go out and explore all Cornwall has to offer.

Beautiful apartment, fab location and great to have parking when it’s so central and there was always space. The photos don’t do the size of the apartment justice - there was lots of space and great storage. Decor really lovely as well and maintained to a high standard. Great holiday and can’t wait to come back

This is a fantastic property, close to town and beaches, but tucked off the main road so quiet; it is beautifully furnished and has everything you would need, the views from the bedroom and living room speak for themselves, a welcome cream tea and milk in the fridge plus treats for our dog, loved it so much we booked again 1 hour after unpacking, can’t wait to go back x

Excellent location for all surrounding beaches

Excellent property, excellent location. Didn't want to go home.

Absolutely fantastic apartment - so clean and homely. 5th time of staying in Newquay and this apartment was by far the best one. Would definitely stay again

What a fantastic place 6 Harvest Moon was and the owner has provided everything and more than you could want The apartment was spotless and very well decorated we immediately felt at home The welcome tray and extras shows that the owner knows how to take care of her holiday makers The views are beautiful and I feel like saying it was awful so no one else can book but us but theres nothing negative to say Simply Wonderful

The apartment was in an amazing location and having a parking space made it perfect the furniture is very comfortable and we felt at home the hole week and the little touches made it feel like a home from home with everything you need in the kitchen we will be back!

Absolutely stunning accomadation, well presented, very clean and spacious. The location is ideal and excellent for all amenities. A credit to the owners who know what you want on holiday.

Brilliant location, so near to Fistral Beach. Fantastic view across the harbour from our balcony. Wonderful host who left us scones and jam! what a treat.
