Holidays in Bude

Carrying the title of Cornwall’s northern-most coastal town, Bude is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the north coast’s beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Bude has so much to offer when it comes to things to do, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants – not to mention the wildest live music venue in Cornwall. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, stretch out on one of the many beaches, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area.

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily accessed from Bude. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline – it’s also a great dog-friendly day out!

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Top tip

Take a dip in the historic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach!

Beaches in Bude

Each with its own character and charm, the beaches in Bude are great whether you’re a swimmer, surfer or sand-snoozer.

Summerleaze Beach – Boasting the iconic sea pool, and only a five-minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf, and sun. Clean, safe, and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers, and families. However, it’s the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and watersports so definitely swing by if you love a hands-on holiday.

Crooklets Beach – At low tide, you’ll find a huge expanse of golden sand along with lots of rockpools to explore, making it very popular with families. There’s also decent surf and lots of amenities nearby including a beach café for those all-important ice creams and even a skate park.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rockpooling and getting back to nature!

Northcott Mouth Beach – Three miles North of Bude is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, which is owned by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rockpools dotted all around - perfect for exploring with the dog all year round.

Bude Castle

Ordinarily, a castle built on the sand might not seem like the best idea, but Bude Castle has really stood the test of time! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It’s now a heritage centre with lots of fascinating exhibitions and art galleries, making this impressive feat of architecture an interesting day whatever the weather.

Why explore the beautiful surrounding area of Bude on four wheels when you can head out on two! There’s a great selection of bikes available for hire around Bude, which suit all ages and most abilities – saddle up!

Bude Sea Pool

Opened in 1930, this partially man-made tidal swimming pool in the rocks of Summerleaze beach provides a lovely, safe place to swim, perfect if you’re not ready to swim in the sea. The pool is open all year round, but of course, it depends on the tide and weather, so always check before heading out.

Surfing & Watersports

Based near Summerleaze beach, Bude Surfing Experience provides water sports equipment hire and watersports lessons so you can hit the waves running as you try your hand at surfing and stand-up paddleboarding!

Alternatively, Freewave Surf Academy at Widemouth Bay offers surfing, coasteering and SUP lessons, while Big Blue Surf School offers a range of surfing lessons, from complete beginners to advanced.

Head to Banford’s Bude, Jemima Rainbow, or Wildwood Cornwall for unique Cornish gifts, or you can stop by the Refill Shop for some environmentally friendly supplies. You’ll also find popular big names from FatFace to Ann’s Cottage, which houses all the top surfing brands.

Walks

With lots of stunning walks in and around Bude, walkers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to scenic routes. Head out onto the South West Coast path for dramatic coastal paths or head inland and explore the many walkways, which take you across crisscrossing fields, through woodland trails and even past Bude’s historic aqueduct.

Dining Out

After a day frolicking in the sea, we often find ourselves in need of a big feed, which is perfect when you’re surrounded by all the great places to eat in Bude. Head to Life’s A Beach for epic food and relaxed vibes or live out your dream of feasting on the water at The Barge! If you’re looking forward to a cosy evening in, then a visit to the Little Pig Farmshop will see you kitted out with everything you could possibly need for an evening of foodie delights.

Lovely holiday again, our second time here would definitely recommend to others! Fantastic views, well equipped and very welcoming.

We stayed at Seascape House in May 2023 (2 adults and 2 children 4 years old and 2 years old) and we had an amazing time. The house itself is brilliant and the location is just as good. We all loved every minute of our holiday.

Lovely cottage

Loved the house. Extremely comfortable and very well equipped. Fantastic views from the balcony. The location was perfect for cliff walks and access to Northcott Beach. Secure dog friendly garden. We really appreciated the welcome gift and lovely flowers.

What a beautiful property! We felt so comfy and at home, and we were all transfixed by the view. The house has everything you could need (and more!) and is in great proximity to Bude and other beaches. Would wholeheartedly recommend, and we hope to visit again soon.

We had a great Christmas week at Seascape House. It was comfortable and warm. Great to have 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms! The house was well equipped and we did not have any equipment missing to cook over the festive period. The views of the sea in this upside down house was a special treat enjoyed from the kitchen and sitting room. We didn't use the terrace due to the weather but it was a reasonable size! Thank you for sharing your lovely home at Christmas and for the welcome messages and beautiful Xmas tree.

Location was amazing as was the view from the lovely balcony. Bedrooms all beautiful and comfortable and everywhere really cosy. Owner very helpful when we needed to contact her. Spent our week on the amazing beaches which are on the doorstep, as the weather was very kind to us for October! Would return in a heartbeat!

A lovely property, well located for sandy beaches at Bude, Northcott Mouth and Sandymouth (which has a fabulous cafe!). A quiet location but with most amenities a 5-10 minute drive. Seascape is very comfortable and well equipped with everything you could need for a family holiday. We would recommend it to others

I booked the property again on the day I returned home. I think that sums up my stay quite well ??

This holiday home was perfect. There was 7 adults and a dog and there was more than enough space. The views are amazing, good walks to the beach and short drive into bude and dog friendly beaches. Would definitely reccomend this place.

Our stay at Seascape house was wonderful. We will go back in the future

Lovely house with plenty of space for us all (4 adults and 2 children) lots of equipment and toys for the kids to use a really nice place, we are looking to return next year! Lovely balcony with brilliant views. The only thing we didn’t do was walk to the beach as we had two prams and the roads are very small but this didn’t bother us.

Stunning very well equipped property with most excellent views, watching the sun go down on the balcony is a must.

Great views and accommodation . Slightly out of Bude and about a mile walk to the coastal paths.

Wow what a fantastic place to stay, we were so lucky to have found such an amazing Website, easy to use, great communication and information at hand or a phone call away. Seascape house was more than we imagined, lots of personal stuff to use at our leisure was a lovely bonus.. Many thanks to all at Aspect Holidays and the owners of Seascape House. We would definitely recommend and would be happy to return one day in the future.

Lovely house, everything you could want including a bottle of Proseco and Cornish shortbread. It was great to sit on the balcony and watch the sun go down.

Seascape is a great property, with everything you need and a great quiet location.

Seascape House was lovely and the views from the living area are lovely, however the bedrooms need a good airing!

You had everything in the house you could ever need and the garage was a treasure trove for things like beach chairs etc.

Amazingly equipped and beautiful house and a lovely walk into town (around 30 mins). Small country lanes so not perfect for young children if walking into town etc.

Overall. A wonderful place. Good location. A sun canopy on the balcony please

The views are amazing especially from the balcony. The best equipped house we have stayed in. Great to have such a beautiful enclosed back garden especially with my dogs. Beautiful rural setting but only a few minutes drive into Bude or a half hour walk. We loved it thankyou.

Stayed in Seascape House 3rd week in June. The views from the balcony are brilliant, you can see Boscastle & Tintagel very clearly.

The living area is very comfortable & the kitchen is well equipped.

The bedrooms are clean & comfortable with good storage space.

The lane is quite narrow, but it's walkable to both Northcott Mouth & Crooklets beaches in about half an hour. There is a nice tea room & garden at Nortcott Mouth beach where cream teas & sandwiches are made to order.

We chose Seascape House as a family get together to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary, & it worked really well for us

We had a wonderful few days, the position of the house was perfect. A quiet location, we never got tired of the views and we were able to walk from the house most days, even managed to pick up supplies from the supermarket and walk back from Bude along the beach! The house was really comfortable, lovely furnishings, comfortable beds, well equipped and the welcome treats were much appreciated. Party of 6, there was plenty of room for us all to have our own space and we would all love to return for another stay.

The house is very comfortable and is well stocked with kitchen and dining ware. The views from the lounge and kitchen are beautiful. We booked a table at the Preston Gate Inn in the village for our first night and were very pleased with the reasonable prices and very friendly staff. Portions were quite generous too. Thank you for the Prosecco, chocolate, Cornish tea bags, milk and flowers they were a nice surprise when we arrived. As a group of 6 this house has been the best one for size and facilities that we have stayed in and we will definitely be keeping it on our favourite places to stay list.

What a fabulous house Seascape is. The kitchen and the lounge are so light with fantastic views. The balcony a real sun trap to sit enjoying a drink and the garden for a BBQ. Only a few minutes drive from Bude and the lovely pebble Crooklets beach down the Lane but quite a walk (we drove). Beds so comfy and the house well equipped. We are a family of 6 and we all loved it, would highly recommend.

Seascape is perfectly equipped for a very enjoyable family holiday. The views to the coast and the rear are exquisite and the house is furnished to a very comfortable and high standard. The beach is within walking distance, although it is mostly up hill on the way back! We really enjoyed our time at Seascape and look forward to returning in the future.

Lovely cottage , All the family enjoyed our stay at seascape it is an extremely well equipped cottage , in a great position for the beach and the A39 which we seemed to use everyday

This is a lovely comfortable place to stay: full of light and plenty of outside space. There are gorgeous views of the sea and surrounding countryside and Northcott mouth cove is easy to reach along a quiet country lane. A perfect spot to relax and unwind.

A lovely holiday house with everything you could need for a brilliant seaside holiday.
