Holidays in Bude

Carrying the title of Cornwall’s northern-most coastal town, Bude is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the north coast’s beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Bude has so much to offer when it comes to things to do, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants – not to mention the wildest live music venue in Cornwall. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, stretch out on one of the many beaches, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area.

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily accessed from Bude. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline – it’s also a great dog-friendly day out!

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Top tip

Take a dip in the historic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach!

Beaches in Bude

Each with its own character and charm, the beaches in Bude are great whether you’re a swimmer, surfer or sand-snoozer.

Summerleaze Beach – Boasting the iconic sea pool, and only a five-minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf, and sun. Clean, safe, and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers, and families. However, it’s the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and watersports so definitely swing by if you love a hands-on holiday.

Crooklets Beach – At low tide, you’ll find a huge expanse of golden sand along with lots of rockpools to explore, making it very popular with families. There’s also decent surf and lots of amenities nearby including a beach café for those all-important ice creams and even a skate park.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rockpooling and getting back to nature!

Northcott Mouth Beach – Three miles North of Bude is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, which is owned by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rockpools dotted all around - perfect for exploring with the dog all year round.

Whether you love spending your time surrounded by the coast or countryside, there are plenty of exciting things to do with the whole family in tow.

Bude Castle

Ordinarily, a castle built on the sand might not seem like the best idea, but Bude Castle has really stood the test of time! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It’s now a heritage centre with lots of fascinating exhibitions and art galleries, making this impressive feat of architecture an interesting day whatever the weather.

Why explore the beautiful surrounding area of Bude on four wheels when you can head out on two! There’s a great selection of bikes available for hire around Bude, which suit all ages and most abilities – saddle up!

Bude Sea Pool

Opened in 1930, this partially man-made tidal swimming pool in the rocks of Summerleaze beach provides a lovely, safe place to swim, perfect if you’re not ready to swim in the sea. The pool is open all year round, but of course, it depends on the tide and weather, so always check before heading out.

Surfing & Watersports

Based near Summerleaze beach, Bude Surfing Experience provides water sports equipment hire and watersports lessons so you can hit the waves running as you try your hand at surfing and stand-up paddleboarding!

Alternatively, Freewave Surf Academy at Widemouth Bay offers surfing, coasteering and SUP lessons, while Big Blue Surf School offers a range of surfing lessons, from complete beginners to advanced.

Shopping

There is a range of lovely shops in Bude where you can stock up on all the usual holiday essentials. Head to Banford’s Bude, Jemima Rainbow, or Wildwood Cornwall for unique Cornish gifts, or you can stop by the Refill Shop for some environmentally friendly supplies. You’ll also find popular big names from FatFace to Ann’s Cottage, which houses all the top surfing brands.

Walks

With lots of stunning walks in and around Bude, walkers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to scenic routes. Head out onto the South West Coast path for dramatic coastal paths or head inland and explore the many walkways, which take you across crisscrossing fields, through woodland trails and even past Bude’s historic aqueduct.

Dining Out

After a day frolicking in the sea, we often find ourselves in need of a big feed, which is perfect when you’re surrounded by all the great places to eat in Bude. Head to Life’s A Beach for epic food and relaxed vibes or live out your dream of feasting on the water at The Barge! If you’re looking forward to a cosy evening in, then a visit to the Little Pig Farmshop will see you kitted out with everything you could possibly need for an evening of foodie delights.

Lovely cottage, just a short walk from coast path and all the facilities of Bude. Warm and cosy.

Oyston Park cottage is in a good location - close to Bude town, local pub and two beaches. The cottage had all the facilities we required and was very comfortable and clean. The stairs were quite steep which could be a problem for those with mobility issues. Although it is close to the road we did not notice any noise and if the weather had been better would have made use of the small outside area. We enjoyed our stay and would return to this cottage.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are so pleased you enjoyed your time at Osyton Park Cottage, and that you made the most of the local pub and facilities in Bude. While this traditional cottage is not advertised as accessible, we can appreciate the stairs may be an issue for some so if you ever have any questions regarding mobility do feel free to ask our bookings team and we'll be more than happy to advise on suitable properties. It's great to hear that you did not hear any noise from the nearby road, but it is a shame the weather prevented you from enjoying the outside space! We hope to welcome you back again soon. Katy, Customer Services.

Really lovely cottage. Very clean, cosy & warm, excellent shower, comfy beds, very well equipped . Great day room to catch the sun & relax in. Easy on site parking. Very short walk to canal, beaches & bude town centre with lots of shops. An excellent property in a great location, wouldn’t hesitate to re book or recommend to friends.

The location was superb and it only took 5 minutes to walk to the beach and the town. The property itself was extremely clean and had everything you could want in a holiday property. Overall the property and location reached our expectations and will be looking to book again in the future.

Great location and lovely apartment with really good parking. I have a Mini Clubman. Not too difficult getting car out of the parking bay once you use the mirror and wind window down. Found it easier to turn right. Location is perfect for very easy walk to the beach or into the centre. Apartment is really comfortable with all the facilities that you require. This was our first stay in this apartment. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

Absolutely lovely cottage with off road parking. Clean and comfortable with everything you need. The road noise takes a little adjusting to as the property is lower than the road so seems more intense but got use to after a while. With being out during the day wasn’t a problem and quietened at night. We will be returning, as love the area.

The website gives an accurate description of the cottage which was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. If you have any mobility issues, take into account that the bathroom (great shower) is downstairs.

Beautiful, light and comfortable cottage! Beds like clouds. We loved the conservatory as you it floods light and air in. We spent a lot of time in here! Well equipped, clean and a great location for the cost. Yes the road is pretty busy but for the price and location you cannot complain. 5 minute walk to beach and 10 to shops (though convenience shop is a fair walk we did a supermarket delivery on day of arrival which was a godsend) We thought the downstairs bathroom would bother us but we left a downstairs lamp on and our children were fine. We adored this cottage, definitely book! Blessed with a holiday that was hard to leave Brendan Arms at the bottom of the road is great for drinks and food. The best food we ate was at The Deck and The Beach (15 min walk)- top notch sea food.

Top tip from other reviews..definitely reverse onto the drive

Property in great location for walking to Bude and also coastal path. Perfect for our stay of a week. Small front patio area which was fine for us as we have older teenagers .It is noisy when sitting out but you have to expect that being on main coastal route- didn't bother us. Well equipped, clean and nicely decorated. Lovely touches with flowers and snacks left for us .look forward to coming next year

Despite the rain we had a great time at Oyston Park Cottage,it’s so good to be able to walk everywhere,we hardly used the car.Beach, shops,Canal all 5 mins. walk away.Bude is a special place in Cornwall. Cottage is cosy and well equipped.

Good parking, convenient for canal, town and summerlees beach. Road noise during day, but this almost vanishes during night. Property has a downstairs bathroom. Also has an induction hob.

This cottage is very comfortable and extremely clean. Well equipped with everything you need. 5-10 minutes to all amenities. Would definitely recommend Oyston Park Cottage, and would stay here again. Great communication from Aspect Holidays, very well informed.

This is a lovely small cottage in a great location. Local eateries, Bude town and beachs all within walking distance. The kitchen is well equipped if you want to eat in. Off road parking, would advise reversing onto the drive for ease of getting off. Over all a pleasant second stay and we would book this cottage again.

Ideal cottage close to town, canal walks and beaches- we parked the car and walked into Bude everyday. The cottage is light and airy and stayed cool during the hot weather- we would have used the outside seating but needed a parasol/sun shade for the table, which was not available. The kitchen has everything you need for self-catering. Overall we had an enjoyable stay

Beautiful quirky little holiday cottage in a great location close to town and beaches . Will stay again . Thank you for yet another great relaxing stay

Lovely house with easy access to bude town centre and beach

Great location everything you need for a fantastic Holiday.

A lot of facilities are within a few minute walk. The town shops, Brenden Arms pub, Summerleaze Beach and the supermarkets are a 5 minute drive away. If you are more adventurous Widemouth Bay is a couple of minute Drive and Boscastle, Tintadgel, and Padstow are well within range. Go to Rock and get the ferry to Padstow, great fun and quicker than driving the long way round. Don’t forget Crocklets Beach the other side of town and you can walk along the cliffs from Summerleaze in about 15 minutes. Great Beach Cafe on Crocklets beech.

You can’t help enjoying a break in this area and Aspect Holidays are the icing on the cake.

Lovely well equipped and comfortable cottage. Beautifully clean and really appreciated the real Christmas tree. Bude is our favourite place and had a memorable Christmas.

The cottage is in an excellent location and with easy parking. So nice to be able to walk into town and enjoy all the Bude has to offer.

Just returned from a wonderful holiday in Oyston Park Cottage. Location excellent, so easy to walk to the canal and then onto the beach even with a 4 year old. Cottage was very comfortable and cosy and had everything we needed and more. Just take note that the toilet is downstairs so a bit of a treck during the night and there is a small step near the entrance which is easy to miss and fall down (which unfortunately is just what my daughter did when unloading the car resulting in a badly sprained ankle). Despite this would highly recommend.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Oh no! We are sorry to hear of your daughter's fall and hope that she is now on the mend! It is always nice to escape the familiarity of our own homes when we go away, but on the flip of that, each property has its own little quirks and things that we are not used to! We hope that you were all still able to make the most of your time here in Cornwall despite this, and still enjoyed everything at this lovely property. Tanya, Customer Services

A very cosy cottage - really comfortable beds. Very convenient for walking down to the canal. The voucher and wine were much appeciated - thank you. I also managed to turn my car on the drive. The stairs are quite steep - but I got used to them! Really good bathroom and splendid shower. I had a problem opening the key safe on arrival and phoned the local office who were very helpful. I eventually opened it by giving it a thump!. I can recommend The Olive Tree by the Canal to eat - lovely food and perfect location.

We were a little bit disappointed when we arrived. Like in all Aspects apartments everything was clean and well-equipped, however the beds are not very good, the living room does not invite to cozy TV evenings. It's as if you stay in things someone else does not want anymore. Perfect location though.

Thank you for letting us know. Getting mattresses and furnishing a property to suit the different tastes of individuals, can be quite a challenge for owners, but we will certainly check on the mattress on our next inspection and monitor for any further feedback. We try to show the style of decor and furnishings as best as possible within the photos, so that guests will know what to expect from a property. The owners had tried to make it cosy and welcoming for their guests, but of course, everyone's ideas of cosy and welcoming will be different. We have passed on your feedback to the owners, for their consideration. We do hope that you still had a great time here. Tanya, Customer Services

Great for a young family holiday.

A lovely cottage, very close to town beaches and cliff walks. The beds were comfy. It wasn’t noisy inside and the road didn’t bother us. Really liked having the tv in the main bedroom. The shower was great and nice to have a bath too. Appliances were high end and the kitchen was well stocked, large fridge/freezer. Appreciated the voucher and Prosecco left - thank you. We were a little apprehensive about getting on and off the drive, but with one car this was fine and we were able to turn on the drive to face the right way to drive off. Hadn’t realised when booking that the only bathroom is downstairs. We enjoyed our week and would return. Very good location.

Lovely cottage with private outside space. Main road so you do need to reverse your car into the drive. Walking distance to beaches and shops and cafes - such a lovely area. We will definitely go again!

Nicely presented property, but the noisy road outside was unbearable, constant cars, lorrys and motorbikes zooming past all day with lorrys also during the night, very hot week but couldn't open windows or patio doors when at the property because of the noise and being on a hill vehicles going up even louder due to getting up speed Wouldn't recommend to friends or people with children

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are sorry if the location on this road was not what you had expected. It can be quite busy at times, being on the main coastal road between Bude and Widemouth, so we try to make this clear on the map that is included on the website, which also shows it as being on the bus route with the bus stops shown near to the property. The location however along with parking right outside, makes it a perfect and convenient location for not only being able to easily walk into Bude town centre but also easily get out and about to explore the many beautiful places that are slightly further afield. we are sorry that it wasn't what you had hoped but do hope that you still enjoyed this lovely area of Cornwall. Tanya, Customer Services

Aspect Holidays kept us up to date, and well informed of all relevant details.

Regretfully this cottage was not for us and we will not be staying here again.

However we still love Bude and will continue to holiday here again.

Kind Regards,

Peter and Wendy Rea.

Beautiful cottage friendly staff so welcoming

This was our second stay at Oyston Park Cottage and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. It was good to be able to walk into town for shopping, dining and the beautiful beaches. The cottage is very clean and cosy, beautifully decorated and furnished.

I’ve booked a few cottages with aspect holidays before ,and find the whole experience from searching to booking to the finer detail on arrival , very easy and stress free , 10/10 to aspect holidays . Oyston park cottage is exactly how it described ,and I would book it again in a “ heartbeat”

Great location and spotlessly clean . Very comfy bed and cosy stay on a whole . Lots of kitchen /cookware . Will be returning again , thank you for a great break away ??

Oyston Park is a little gem of a cottage - ideally placed for exploring the Cornish coastline or Bude. The accommodation was very comfortable, and spotlessly clean. I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage

This cottage was very comfortable and very clean. The cottage had everything we needed. The welcome pack of Procesco and voucher was a lovely welcome surprise. It is in a good location within walking distance of the town, pub and beaches. It was a good base for exploring the wonderful North Cornish coastline.

Just had a long w/end at Oyston Park Cottage. It was a trip down memory lane for us,as we used to live there,we holiday let the big house.Loved being back, cosy and comfortable,Bude is a special place,Wilf our dog loved it,the beach,Clifftop walks, amazing.

We will be back one day.

A great area for a holiday. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. It was in an excellent location for both easy access to Bude, and in close proximity to may walking routes, including the SW Coastal Path.

Perfect dog friendly cottage with all town facilities just a short walk away. Lovely food at a great pub at the bottom of the hill, again very dog friendly. Top tip to reverse into parking space as quite busy road when coming out! Gift voucher for local post office stores a very thoughtful surprise upon our arrival, used to try out the local cider!! Perfect holiday??

Lovely cottage, super conservatory and little garden a real sun trap. The cottage is very well kept, and very well equipped for self catering. Lovely comfy bed, large white fluffy towels, we had a lovely few days, even the sun came out for us ! Would thoroughly recommend to others. Just a few minutes walk to the centre of Bude, private parking space...... what's not to like !

Lovely well equipped cottage in a great location, approx 10 minute walk into Bude , great for walks along the canal and coastal path. Everything you need in the kitchen if you want to cook, nice to have the added extra of a dishwasher. Small enclosed outside space and lovely conservatory for eating breakfast or enjoying a glass of wine. Off road parking for two cars, would suggest reversing onto drive so it's easy to pull onto the main road. A great find and would recommend.

Perfect little cottage, ideal for a family of 4 with a pet dog. We had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The cottage is very well equipped and impeccably maintained. The location is very convenient, within walking distance to the beach and cliffs, as well as shops and restaurants. It is located on a busy road and we always had to make sure our dog was on a lead when leaving the house, but we did not find that to be a problem at all. We hope to visit again soon!

Oyston Park Cottage is a great base for access to Bude, the coast path and the beech. The cottage itself is on a relatively busy road which can cause issues. The outside area is untidy which makes it a little less appealing to use. Beds are very very soft, which is not my personal preference.

Great location. Clean and well equipped. Outside space in not secure and noisy. That said had a great comfortable holiday.

First time booking through Aspect .Very efficient and helpful service.

Beautiful quirky , spotlessly clean cottage in an excellent location . A fantastic relaxing comfy break away with our dog , thank you ??

Oyston Park Cottage is a lovely, light filled cottage, within walking distance of town and beaches. The bathroom has a choice of bath or shower and the kitchen is well equipped. The bedroom was very comfortable, with plenty of storage. Bude itself is a charming town with independent shops for food and gift shopping. There is plenty to do in the area, heading in all directions. All in all, a great holiday, with the intention of returning!

Good location near to beach and centre of Bude. Equipment in kitchen is very good, nice big walk in shower as well as bath. Beds really comfortable, nice sunny aspect to front of cottage. As cottage is right on the road getting on and off drive is difficult.

We had a wonderful time at Oyston Park Cottage. Lovely, cosy little place with everything you need for a perfect break. In an ideal location a few minutes walk to the canal wharf side and beach, with a brilliant pub ‘The Brendan Arms’ at the bottom of the road. We loved it and will be returning next year, thank you.

Lovely, warm and comfortable cottage which is very well equipped. The location was perfect too with a short walk to beach, shops/restaurants and canal. Loved it!!

We had a lovely stay at Oyston Park Cottage. It is well situated for easy access to Bude and everything it has to offer - beaches, canal, coastal walks etc. Definitely recommend.
