Holidays in Bude

Carrying the title of Cornwall’s northern-most coastal town, Bude is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the north coast’s beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Bude has so much to offer when it comes to things to do, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants – not to mention the wildest live music venue in Cornwall. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, stretch out on one of the many beaches, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area.

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily accessed from Bude. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline – it’s also a great dog-friendly day out!

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Top tip

Take a dip in the historic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach!

Beaches in Bude

Each with its own character and charm, the beaches in Bude are great whether you’re a swimmer, surfer or sand-snoozer.

Summerleaze Beach – Boasting the iconic sea pool, and only a five-minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf, and sun. Clean, safe, and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers, and families. However, it’s the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and watersports so definitely swing by if you love a hands-on holiday.

Crooklets Beach – At low tide, you’ll find a huge expanse of golden sand along with lots of rockpools to explore, making it very popular with families. There’s also decent surf and lots of amenities nearby including a beach café for those all-important ice creams and even a skate park.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rockpooling and getting back to nature!

Northcott Mouth Beach – Three miles North of Bude is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, which is owned by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rockpools dotted all around - perfect for exploring with the dog all year round.

Bude Castle

Ordinarily, a castle built on the sand might not seem like the best idea, but Bude Castle has really stood the test of time! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It’s now a heritage centre with lots of fascinating exhibitions and art galleries, making this impressive feat of architecture an interesting day whatever the weather.

Opened in 1930, this partially man-made tidal swimming pool in the rocks of Summerleaze beach provides a lovely, safe place to swim, perfect if you’re not ready to swim in the sea. The pool is open all year round, but of course, it depends on the tide and weather, so always check before heading out.

Based near Summerleaze beach, Bude Surfing Experience provides water sports equipment hire and watersports lessons so you can hit the waves running as you try your hand at surfing and stand-up paddleboarding!

You’ll also find popular big names from FatFace to Ann’s Cottage, which houses all the top surfing brands.

Walks

With lots of stunning walks in and around Bude, walkers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to scenic routes. Head out onto the South West Coast path for dramatic coastal paths or head inland and explore the many walkways, which take you across crisscrossing fields, through woodland trails and even past Bude’s historic aqueduct.

Dining Out

After a day frolicking in the sea, we often find ourselves in need of a big feed, which is perfect when you’re surrounded by all the great places to eat in Bude. Head to Life’s A Beach for epic food and relaxed vibes or live out your dream of feasting on the water at The Barge! Our second visit to this fantastic property, Whoever books it won't be disappointed,,its caters for our growing family with ease.

Fairway house Bude was superb Well equipped couldn’t ask for anything better Great family time making memories

Very spacious, dog friendly holiday home. Great proximity to Crooklets Beach and the centre of Bude. Amazing ratio of bedrooms to bathrooms - only two rooms haven’t got an en-suites! Clean but had a relaxing, ‘lived in’ feel. Well equipped kitchen but rubbish bin is in a really weird place - you will have to book to find out where! If you want board games please bring your own as the selection provided were all broken with missing pieces and instructions. Just a little more tlc and this house would be absolutely perfect.

Lovely houses within a couple of minutes walk to the beach. Loads of space. Lovely kitchen area and two large sitting areas. Highly recommended.

A great location close to the beach and town centre, perfect if you don’t wish to get in a car for your stay. The facilities in the house were ideal for entertaining large family groups.

The house is a lovely house with plenty of space for larger groups. The bedrooms are spread out and a very good size. The kitchen and sitting rooms have plenty of space and are well laid out. There are several steps inside and out so would not suit all groups with very young or very old. Easy walk into town or to the sea front or coast path

Check before going exactly what is provided and what isnt - hairdryer, dishwasher tablets, toilet roll, BBQ charcoal etc

Photos are representative of how it looks

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Fairway House and found the property to be spacious throughout. The property is not advertised as being accessible, but we always recommend getting in touch before booking a property if you have any accessibility requirements or questions and we'll be happy to advise.

There should be enough of the basic items to get you started with your stay, such as tea, coffee, milk, dishwasher tablets and toilet roll, but again, if you ever have any questions before you arrive do let us know and we'll be able to help. Not all property owners provide hairdryers, but we will pass along your feedback so they can take this into consideration. Katy, Customer Services.

Perfect property for large groups. Great location for both beaches and the town. The kitchen is very well equipped. Comfortable seating in both the dining area and lounge. Pool table was used frequently and there were board games provided. The garden is small and concreted so not ideal for toddlers. Worth taking a trip to Widemouth Bay Cafe (5 mins away) if you enjoy a cooked breakfast!

Fantastic house within a great location it bettered our expectations. Everything was 1st class. Can't wait to return.

loved the location and with the added bonus of parking space for 2 cars. House could do with a few extras. ie hair drier and better kitchen utensils. but overall a lovely house and would definitely re book

Thank you for your helpful comments, we will have a look at the utensils when we go over to inspect the property. We will also suggest a hairdryer to the owners. Not all property owners provide hairdryers, but we know that they are always a very welcome addition in properties. Thanks again and we hope to see you back again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

The best equipped kitchen I’ve ever used in a holiday home, everything we needed for varied styles of meal prep. for a large family group. Very comfortable beds and beautifully appointed bathrooms.

Really appreciated the fans supplied during the hot spell. Thank you to Aspects staff for lending their office fan too, service above and beyond!

A lovely holiday was had by all 11 adults and 2 toddlers, so close to the beaches and town, we would go back when the children are older as some steps down to the kitchen and out to the garden are quite dangerous to little ones . All in all a great house that’s very well equipped and beautifully decorated.

We are glad that you liked this lovely property. It certainly offers a great light and airy space for the whole family to enjoy. We try to show the steps that you mention, as clearly as we can in the photos so that guests can decide if this will be suitable for all their party, so we do hope that this was what you had expected. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to this lovely property once again in the future. Tanya, Customer Services

This house is excellent for families or groups of friends. All the bedrooms are very roomy with virtually a bath/shower room per bedroom. The ground floor is vast, with a comfortable lounge/games room and fully equipped kitchen overlooking the dining/TV area. A bonus is the hot tub and parking for 2 cars. It’s within a 5-10 minute walk of the beeches and shops. I would certainly book to stay here again.

What a fab location! And a fab house! Such a lovely large space. And so we’ll appointed, it had everything you could need for your stay. Aspects holidays were great at sorting out any issues too ??

Excellent spacious property for large families, in a great position with beach and town in easy reach, comfortable, warm and very well equipped, great hot tub and welcome pack was a lovely touch, would definitely return .

A beautiful property in short walking distance to both the beach and town. The living spaces are large which made our stay very comfortable. We particularly appreciated the two sittings rooms, pool table and hot tub. A large and well equipped kitchen made cooking at the property very convenient. All of the bedrooms are sizeable and have individual bathrooms or ensuites. The bedrooms at the front of the property had scenic views of the golf course and beach. There is some parking on the street at the front of the property in addition to the 2 allocated spaces at the back. We had a couple of issues during our stay however aspects tried their best to resolve these.

We had a wonderful stay at the house. It was big enough for our whole family and we were able to enjoy the house and the area in luxury.

A very high spec property in a great location for beach, shops and cafes. Exceptionally large kitchen and living/dining area. Kitchen is equipped with absolutely everything you need and more, I especially liked having a nespresso machine for a great coffee in the morning, and skyQ in both living areas, the pool table was an extra treat for entertainment. A very well kept property with a large hot tub that’s perfectly maintained. We enjoyed our stay that much we booked an extra 2 days!! We didn’t want to go home!! Aspect holidays are the best in the business in my opinion, nothing is too much trouble with amazing friendly staff!! Thankyou so much xx

We were due to go to France but due to Covid restrictions, like everyone else, decided to holiday in this country. We have not used Aspects before but can thoroughly recommend them and their holiday lets. The house was spotlessly clean, in a prime position close to the beach. We had a couple of very small niggles but these were dealt with immediately. Would thoroughly recommend this house for a large family. There were 9 of us, friends rather than family, so the mixture of twin rooms and double rooms was ideal. Even better in that all but one room had an en suite but the one that didn't had a family bathroom next to it so not an issue. We will definitely be revisiting!
