October 2023

Our stay at Honeysuckle cottage was very enjoyable. We had a wonderful relaxing time as a family, the cottage was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The location was ideal for our trip to the Eden Project and was a short car journey away to some loving beaches and other local attractions. A lovely village location, the children enjoyed looking out of their bedroom window to see horses and cows and other wildlife. Would recommend.

Holidays in Mid Cornwall

Believe it or not, Cornwall’s not all about the coast; there’s some stunning scenery inland just waiting to be explored. Whilst Cornwall is known for its rolling coastlines and sweeping sands, some of the best and most beautiful parts of the county can be found inland. Including quaint villages and country pubs, golden fields strewn with hay bales, woodland walks with meandering streams, rocky moors and heritage mines.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of winding through country lanes, trees arching above and Cornish hedgerows lining either side of the twisting lanes. Deep in the countryside, you’ll find old Cornish villages, each with their individual characteristics, and usually home to the village pub and church. With interesting names and a unique history, the villages of inner Cornwall differ quite significantly to their nearby coastal villages.

Whether it’s rural farmland, gorse and heather covered moors or mining relics, there’s an abundance of things to do and see. That said, if you do fancy a day at the beach, you’ll never be more than a short drive away from the coast wherever you choose to stay. You’ll also have the added benefit of being close to both coastlines, which whilst very different, are equally beautiful; head to the south coast and discover green hills that roll down to the shoreline, sandy coves and bays and exotic sub-tropical gardens, or explore the north coast, where you’ll find rugged cliffs hugging spectacular beaches and landscape transformed by tin and copper mining.

Did you know...

that Cornwall is so narrow that even our most inland properties are no more than 15 miles from the sea?

Things to do

Truro

Truro is Cornwall’s only city, it’s the most southern city in Great Britain. Truro is easily accessible by Train from a number of stations in Mid Cornwall, such as Redruth, Camborne, Par, and St Austell. This direct line from London Paddington arrived in Truro in the 1860’s. With a selection of high street and boutique shops, it’s the best place to shop in Cornwall. Why not consider booking tickets for a show at The Hall for Cornwall while you’re in Cornwall?

Tehidy Country Park

Tehidy has over 9 miles of paths and 250 acres of woods and lakes to explore. Stop off at the café after your walk for a coffee and a slice of homemade cake. Tehidy was formally the estate of the Bassets, it was sold in 1915.

Retallack Aqua Park and FlowRider

Located at Retallack Resort and Spa, the aqua park is a total wipe out style inflatable obstacle course – perfect for a fun packed afternoon (re-opens Saturday 31st March 2018). Retallack is also home to the county’s only FlowRider, bringing you perfect waves, every day of the week!

Eden Project

One of Cornwall’s most famous attractions, and home to two biomes housing a rainforest and Mediterranean eco system. Visit the Eden Project and you’ll also find sculptures, outdoor gardens, trails and children’s activities, ice-skating (Oct – Feb), Hangloose adventures (including England’s longest and fastest zip wire) and a selection of cafes and bars.

The Lost Gardens Of Heligan

One of the most popular botanical gardens in the UK, The Lost Gardens of Heligan was opened in 1992. The members of the Tremayne Family created the gardens from the mid-18th century to the beginning of the 20th century, the gardens are still part of the family’s estate today.

Lappa Valley

With three trains on site, including a steam train, and many other activities, this is sure to be a delightful day for all the family.

Bodmin and Wenford Railway

With a full size steam train, visit Bodmin’s famous train line to travel through the countryside by steam!

The Camel Trail and the Bissoe Trail

For those feeling more adventurous, try out one of the cycle trails in mid Cornwall for a fun and active way to explore the countryside.

Stithians Outdoor and Active Centre

Try a range of water sports activities at Stithians Lake, from paddle boarding and kayaking, to wind surfing.

St Nectan's Waterfalls

In an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is this hidden gem, a spectacular 60 foot waterfall set into the rocks. Take the time to visit this magical place and explore the woodland walks.

For those seeking an element of culture, there’s a range of different cultural attractions throughout Cornwall, well worth visiting, including: Pencarrow House and Gardens, Lanhydrock House, Bodmin Jail and Poldark Mine.

We had a lovely short break at this beautiful cottage. The views from the property are wonderful, even in Winter! it is also very peaceful. The cottage is beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. Everything you could need in the kitchen has been thought of and a welcome pack of essentials was much appreciated. Polgooth is well positioned for day trips throughout South Cornwall. Thank you to all concerned for a very happy stay.

It's a beautiful place all the little touches are fantastic would recommend to any one with or without children.

We have just returned from a lovely week at Honeysuckle Cottage. The cottage is perfectly placed in a very quiet location yet only a short drive from lots of lovely villages, beaches and attractions including The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. It is very well equipped and the beds are very comfortable with good quality linen. I popped into the Aspect Holidays office in Mevagissey on the Saturday afternoon that we arrived as we had a couple of queries and Michelle could not have been more helpful, even writing down local places that she recommended that we visited.

We had a lovely week at Honeysuckle Cottage. It was very well equipped, and we were particularly pleased with the super king size bed and the big bathtub. The cottage is far enough from other properties to offer good privacy but a short walk from the local pub which does pretty decent meals. Our only complaint would be that the local footpaths are difficult to find, even using the OS map - signs are non-existent or have been removed.

Nice quiet location but close to amenities. Good eating within walking distance and in next village(Sticker). Both are happy to take dogs. Near to lots of beaches. V. Good, quiet, dog friendly beach with on site parking at porthluney Cove.(PL26 6LY).

Having just returned from a fantastic week in the cottage I can highly recommend it. It was cosy, comfortable and had an extremely well kitted out kitchen which is a rarity. I would note the ceiling in the front living area is much lower than the rest of the cottage and the WiFi blocked booking of websites if it contained alcohol in the title which made booking day trips and tickets challenging. We would definitely return there though as we had a most enjoyable week.

A most beautiful cottage in a lovely area, so much to do and see within easy reach. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equiped. We very much hope to return.

Great location, kitchen and master bedroom. Cottage is very dark with little natural light. The garden is dark and damp and can be difficult with dogs especially at night. All in all the cottage was comfortable but would not book again.

Beautiful cottage, wonderfully appointed, in a perfect, tranquil setting. We have visited many times and are always very sad to leave.

Honeysuckle Cottage is a charming place to stay with good location. Comfy beds and a nice bath tub

We had a very happy 2 weeks here. The cottage is extremely comfortable and spacious. Polgooth has some lovely local walks, a shop and a pub. A visit to the Lost Gardens of Heligan is a must if you enjoy walking. We would stay here again.

Nice cottage in a quiet location and a short distance to a very popular pub, quite central for North Cornwall, just over 1hrs drive to lovely coastal towns in South Cornwall, some lovely walks nearby for your dog, would revisit again

I would recommend a stay at honeysuckle cottage it is a beautiful cottage in a good position but needs a little TLC in certain places.
