Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Enjoy harbour views and artisan foods at Mousehole Deli & kitchen, afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room or sit down for an evening meal at 2 Fore Street, a French bistro-style restaurant on Mousehole harbour front. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Visit at Christmas and experience the magical Mousehole Lights display!

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

This was an amazing property with a truly amazing view across the harbour. The apartment was warm and cosy with everything you could possibly need to have a great self catering holiday. The wine and biscuits were much appreciated too!

Lamorna was idyllic, stunning, relaxing and with views to die for, we loved it so much we’ve already booked for next year.

Love this apartment and have stayed several times. Worth a premium for the location. But don't stay here so it's available when we want it!

We had a lovely stay - we’ve stayed here several times. It’s a magical location with wonderful views.

Lamorna offers the best view over beautiful Mousehole. Lovely apartment and well equipped with everything you need for your holiday.

Everything perfect, high standards through out, would be a little difficult for wheel chair l managed with walker, with help,,,best place to rent in Mousehole, just watching the harbour was a great past time for me,,,and wonderful swimming if you had children,,,we had a wonderful week,,

Lamorna is undoubtably in the best position in Mousehole - overlooking the delightful harbour and close to all the amenities including the wonderful bus that takes you into Penzance and from there all over Cornwall. You don't need a car at all. It's stylish, high quality and well equipped on the whole. There are 4 relaxing seats for watching TV etc but if there are more of you, you'll need to squeeze in a couple of the dining chairs. In the summer months it would be a very comfortable stay. In the winter be prepared for damp smells caused by unreliable heating in the back two bedrooms.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are glad that you had a great time here; those views are truly spectacular, aren't they? We were sorry to hear of the problems with the heating in the back bedrooms though. This isn't an issue that has been highlighted in the colder months previously, but looking into the details of your report, I can see that the location of the thermostat was causing the heating to cut out before the bedrooms had warmed up, resulting in not being able to dry out the ensuite bathrooms and towels in those rooms, so trades were sent over to move the thermostat. We hope that this helped, but we will keep an eye on this and discuss it with the owner if it continues to cause any problems. Thanks for letting us know. Tanya, Customer Services

Beautiful apartment with the most amazing views overlooking the harbour. Prime location in Mousehole to all amenities.

Exceptional property overlooking Mousehole harbour. All as advertised. Big thank you to Aspects who were first class in responding to any issues, thank you.

Well positioned Delightful views

Lamorna is one of the best located and appointed flats around the harbour in Mousehole, and we have stayed in most of them. 3 double bedrooms, a huge dining/reception room right on the waters edge and views all round regardless of the weather (including the sunrise every morning).

Lamorna is a fantastic property located in the heart of the village and harbour. The apartment is beautiful and well equipped. I never got bored of looking out over the harbour and the sea. Walking distance to great restaurants. Mousehole is a great starting place for coastal walks and also has a lovely beach. This is our second stay at Lamorna and we will definitely return.

Our first visit to Lamorna in beautiful Mousehole. We have stayed in Mousehole before but never at this apartment. Already booked Lamorna for next year. The apartment is very spacious and has 3 good sized en-suite bedrooms, fantastic views over the harbour from the living room and master bedroom. Decorated and furnished to a very high standard, with every appliance you might need. The village itself has everything you might need and Lamorna is situated with excellent access to the restaurants and harbour.

Excellent location and stunning views of Mosehole Harbour. Apartment spotlessly clean, furnished to a very high standard, equipped with everything you could need and very comfortable. The only negative was a horrendous smell coming from the drains in the master en-suite bathroom. This was reported to Aspects who very swiftly sent someone to pour cleaner down the drain unfortunately this did not help. I believe the owner is aware and has had a professional look at the drain. Not ideal as bathroom leads directly on to main bedroom but apart from that we had an excellent stay.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry that you had experienced that smell while you were here. It is not something that the team here at Aspects have been aware of, but having checked with the owner, he has had feedback on it before, though it seems to be very intermittent. He had sent someone over to check on the smell after receiving your review and it was no longer present, but if it occurs again, a specialist will be arranged to investigate. Thank you for letting us know and we hope that you still had a great time here despite this. Tanya, Customer Services

2nd stay at Lamorna and booked to go again. We loved it.. location is fab right on the Harbour.... We'll equipt with everything needed for a great stay. Aspect holidays are very friendly and efficient in making everything run smoothly, they are even posting me the things that I left behind in the property. I would recommend them to anyone wanting an exclusive property to holiday in.

What a amazing place great views over the harbour massive house close to everything very comfortable with loads of room everything you want there and more .been there a week parked car up and used the great bus service to go every where and cheap for the week .

The location of this property is perfect, right in the middle of Mousehole and an amazing view over the harbour. I never tiered of the view. We went swimming in the harbour and did a couple of really good coastal walks. There are at least three great places to eat in Mousehole itself. Close to other good beaches. The Minack Theatre is a must!! The apartment has everything you need and is a great place to stay.
