Surfside enjoys a great location, just a stone's throw from Widemouth Bay beach. All the rooms are spacious and well presented with guest comfort in mind. There is a first-floor snug, which is the perfect place to enjoy the sea view and enjoy a drink, whilst watching the sunset in the evening, after a busy day at the beach. All rooms are on one floor, apart from the snug and there is a pretty rear garden, with a patio and grassed lawn, as well as an outside shower, which is perfect to rinse off your salty toes, wetsuits and beach kit, following a day at the seaside.

Surfside is in a group of properties, slightly tucked back from the main Widemouth Bay, and perfectly placed for friends and family to enjoy a fun holiday, close to the ocean. Black Rock beach is dog friendly all year round, so your pooch can enjoy the beach experience too. Bude is only just over three miles away, where you can find a variety of shops, coffee shops and eateries. Widemouth Bay beach is a short two-minute stroll, there is a small local shop at the Beach House, which sells local produce and general convenience items. There are three pubs, all within minutes from the property, serving locally brewed ales, ciders and homecooked food.

Despite stormy weather we enjoyed a wonderful week at Surfside. The property was spotlessly clean, comfortable and had everything we needed as a family of two adults and three young children. The property is bigger than it appears in the photos and the location is unbeatable, just a couple of minutes walk to the beach. The property owner provided a warm welcome and checked we had all we needed.

Holidays in Widemouth Bay

Widemouth Bay is a beautiful beach, just three miles from the town of Bude. With one and a half miles of golden sand, it’s the perfect place for a relaxing holiday within easy reach of the facilities at Bude.

Situated on the North coast, Widemouth Bay is an open, exposed stretch of coast, ideal for surfers. Equally enjoyed by families, children can explore the rock pools exposed at low tide. With beach cafes, parking and seasonal lifeguards, it’s the perfect day out.

Though Widemouth Bay appears to be one large beach, it’s divided into two beaches. Blackrock, the south end, is privately owned and is dog-friendly all year, perfect if your pooch is joining you on holiday.

Did you know...

Widemouth Bay is the landing point for communications cables linking the UK to other countries?

Widemouth Bay Beach

Of course, the best part of Widemouth Bay is Widemouth Bay Beach - 1.5 miles of glorious sand.

Though it appears to be one large expanse of sand, the beach is actually divided into two sections: the North Beach and the South Beach (also known as Black Rock). This division comes in the form of a barrier of natural rocks - the largest being the landmark known as Black Rock. At low tide, hundreds of rock pools are exposed - perfect to keep the children (and adults) entertained.

Ample parking is available at Widemouth Bay, but if you don't fancy getting your toes sandy, you can park at one of the free viewing areas!

There is a seasonal dog ban on this beach from the 15th May to the 30th September between 10am and 6pm. Outside these hours and from 1st October to 14th May dogs are allowed.

Things to do in Widemouth Bay

If you fancy a change from rock-pooling and making sand castles on the beach, you might like to try surfing. Don't worry if you're a beginner you can take surfing lessons with Freewave Surf Academy or OA Surf Club

There are lots of lovely walks in and around Widemouth Bay. You could try walking to Bude, via Philips Point Nature Reserve, over Efford Down, to the watch tower at Compass Point and then follow the canal into Bude.

If you're looking to explore further afield, check out our blog about things to do in Bude.

Places to eat in Widemouth Bay

There are several eateries in and around Widemouth Bay.

Firstly, The Bay View Inn provides a selection of seasonal classics and food with a twist. They have three separate indoor dining areas, several alfresco dining areas and spaces available for private hire. In peak season, they open a snack shack, serving a variety of take away foods.

Close to the beach, you'll find Black Rock Cafe and Bistro, serving freshly-cooked artisan food. You can enjoy your food inside, or on the deck soaking up the views.

With direct access to the beach, Widemouth Bay Cafe serves all day breakfast, fish and chips, burgers, cream teas and other light snacks.

Slightly outside of Widemouth Bay, Elements Cafe Bar and Restaurant serves a selection of food, specialising in pizza and pasta. The restaurant has beautiful views to enjoy while you dine.

Fantastic location. Spectacular views!

Lovely holiday accommodation. Perfect location and beautiful view of the sea and the waves. Peaceful and comfortable but lots of little touches which make a difference. I would recommend.

Surfside is a great place to stay with access to the beach in a few minutes. Clean and comfortable and lovely sea view from the lounge window. Great to have hot shower outside after surfing and the football table was a hit with the kids. Bude is only a short car ride away and a lovely place to visit. Would recommend a stay to anyone.

Fabulous place to stay, ideal location, 2 mins walk to the beach.Booked already for next year!!

What can I say..... the house was amazing, the owner was extremely helpful and very friendly. I would return in a heartbeat. We didn't want to leave. Thank you for an amazing 2 weeks.

Great location, excellent specification with a great second floor space with views out to the Bay

Surfside was a wonderful place to stay. We loved our time there and will be going back. The beach is close by and easy access. Highly recommend

Surfside was far larger than we had anticipated from the descriptions. It had all that was needed for a family on holiday. As a couple we had more than enough space and with everything you need at hand it was a great stay. The best feature for us was waking up to the view of crashing waves. The beach was literally over the road from the property and is truly amazing. For kids there were many board games available and a table football room as well as a snug upstairs that had another TV. The property had sky tv and a 65" tv which is very unusual for rental properties around Cornwall. WIFI again was very good although there is no mobile signal in widemouth( no fault of the property/ owner) Met and had a chat with the owner who was really great, very friendly and helpful. All in all we will return again next year although the bookings for this property are already filling out.

Loved the location, absolutely superb, met the owner on arrival; she was just wonderful. Very helpful, with loads of info to share.

We had a lovely week at Surfside, excellent location close to Widemouth Bay beach/facilities and also as a base for exploring the local area. Bungalow was spacious and spotlessly clean. Would definitely like to return in the future.

We had an excellent two week holiday at Surfside. Everything we wanted, great accommodation, great location and great weather. The football table was very entertaining! Thankyou.

Fantastic house, fantastic location, so close to the beach. Would highly recommend.

We absolutely loved Surfside, it was super clean, well equipped and furnished. The view from the lounge window is fantastic. The beds were very comfortable with good quality mattresses, so all slept well. Popped over to the beach most evenings with a glass of wine to watch the beautiful sunsets.

Great location. A few minutes walk from the beach and also beach bar and bay view inn within walking distance. Bungalow was comfortable with everything included for a fantastic holiday.

Brilliant beach location for body boarding and surfing just a couple of minutes walk with hot outside shower for when you return. Football table and upstairs den area was a hit with the kids. Highly recommend staying at surfside.

Good location, spotlessly clean, very comfortable. Ideal for a family.

Although our last visit to Cornwall was 3 years ago due to Covid we have been coming to this area for over 15 years. The property is in the perfect location for a quiet beach holiday. We walked down to the beach most evenings and had family time playing games in the snug. The boys loved the football table too! The Weir is a lovely walk with fantastic food, a lovely view and stuff for the kids. We’re all looking forward to our next visit ??

We have just returned from a week's stay at Surfside .Although we have been to North Cornwall many times this was our first trip to Widemouth Bay and the Bude area. Widemouth Bay is beautiful excellent for dog walking surfing or watching the world go by at the cafe drinking a coffee and chilling. Surfside is a credit to the owners .Well equipped clean comfortable with a pretty garden and amazing sunsets to be seen from the property .I fell in love with the little snug upstairs didn't want the holiday to end but I am sure we will be back.

Lovely comfortable and spacious. Perfect location near the beach with amazing views. We enjoyed a lovely week at surfside and look forward to hopefully booking again

We have just returned from a week at Surfside. The house is in a fantastic position with sea views from the lounge window. Just 2 minutes walk to the beach. Perfect for taking our dogs for a walk on the beach. The house is fully equipped with everything we needed. Booked for next Easter while we were there!

Comfortable and light property in a great location. Plenty of seating in the living room with a good view of the sea. The top snug has the best views in the house and is a great place to have your morning cuppa.

Would recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit this beautiful part of Cornwall.

Surfside is a great holiday location. Close enough to Bude, but with the beach a stones throw away we spent a lot of time there. The garden is perfect for the dog. The beds are very comfortable and the views out of the window are great. We have already booked next year.

Great location, comfy beds huge TV and a fantastic hang out space for younger guests. If booking for those with mobility issues the inner doorway into the extension was tricky as it was an external door originally and wider and higher step than expected. Furniture comfy but quite low for people with mobility issues. Anyone booking will have a lovely holiday, just sit watching the waves and the surfers riding the waves.

Surfside is a lovely property a stones throw from the beach with lovely views. The property was immaculate throughout and a safe and secure garden for our dog. The bedrooms are amazing with the most comfortable mattress's. A lovely welcome pack including wine we received on arrival. We loved Surfside so much we are booking for next year. We had a fantastic holiday and wish to Thank Aspect holidays and the owners of Surfside.

Excellent property, very spacious and well equipped, good location to beach.
