We have stayed at Vine Cottage before and found it on both occasions to be the perfect holiday cottage for our family. Located moments from the harbour the position offers a quiet, hidden retreat just steps away from the water. The cottage offers plenty of sleeping space for a larger family and the owners have equipped the cottage with everything needed during a stay. We stayed over Christmas and were touched by the thoughtful welcome pack and decoration that we were met with on arrival. We have recommended this property to friends and hope to visit again ourselves soon.

This is a lovely cottage for a family holiday. Located close to the harbour, it provides good access to the beach and car park. With comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen this property offers a great base. There are some low ceilings and steep stairs/steps to be aware of. The description and photographs online are good and the house was just as we had pictured. We look forward to returning soon.

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

A tucked away but all the more charming cottage. A bit too narrow in the kitchen for 7 people if everyone wants to have breakfast together. Furnished with love and well maintained. Access is not or only partially suitable for people with walking disabilities. The children really liked the rear access directly to the port. We would book the cottage again. The property has character and flair.

Very well equipped, home from home type cottage, just as expected as well as being central to the village, so exploring is easy. We are repeat guests and have no hesitation to recommend.

We adore mousehole and have stayed here several times now. The cottage is familiar and comfortable. There are some basic improvements that I have emailed the letting agent about separately but they don’t distract from the pleasure of our stay in this lovely corner of the world.

Lovely cottage, clean, tidy, well equipped kitchen, well positioned in the village. Having Aspect provide weekly parking in the local school was a bonus during the Easter holidays. We were a family of 4 adults and 3 children, children all under 10. The cottage was fine us, but for 7 adults it would feel a little cramped.

Whilst this property can sleep 7, with 2 double bedrooms and a third bedroom with a bunk and single bed, the space may not suit all parties of 7. We try to show the available space and facilities as best as possible within the photos and website description, so that guests can make an informed decision on its suitability, so we do hope that this was what you had expected. Well presented equipped character cottage, fresh decor, ideal for families, nice welcome basket, clean and we would recommend for a village located holiday.

We have stayed at vine cottage before and look forward to returning again.

Mousehole is a lovely place and the cottage is in a great location. Parking can be difficult when it is busy. The cottage was clean. We were very happy with the service offered by Aspects staff to help resolve an ant problem. We were not very sure about having to dispose of waste left by previous guests and would rather have known about this in advance of booking. However overall we had a lovely holiday and this cottage was a good base.

Great holiday Lovely welcome and place Would return Loved it

This is our 4th year staying at Vine Cottage and we absolutely love it. It’s a real home from home, always so clean and beautifully decorated. We’ve already booked again for next year!!

We had a wonderful week at Vine Cottage this July (2021). The cottage is an absolute gem and the photos on the website do not do it justice! The outdoor sitting area is very cute and was the perfect private spot for a glass of wine in the sunshine. Its hard to see it on the photos but it is a table and two chairs with an addition two stored away so you could easily eat out there with the family. The second thing I want to let everyone know about is the secret door to the beach....it is super cute and utterly brilliant. Through the covered outdoor area is a door which leads to an alley which takes you straight to the beach. It was so close we couldnt believe it. Perfect for packing up a picnic and heading down to the sand for supper. The cottage is beautifully decorated and the kitchen was unbelievably well equipped. I have never stayed in such a well equipped place, the owners have certainly thought of everything, from tupperware for picnics to numerous sizes of pans, plastic plates and glasses for the children. Thank you for an amazing base for my family to make such wonderful memories. I would highly recommend this cottage.

We had a very relaxing stay here, the cottage was lovely, very clean with everything we needed.Perfectly situated very close to the harbour and just a 2 minute walk to find cafes/restaurants and gift shops.

Was quite dismayed to see the owner had left foodstuffs: flour, vegetable oil, tomato ketchup in half full containers in our food storage area. This is in clear breach of Covid guidance to have everything cleaned on changeover. Seems like you are having your cake and eating it as you expect us to leave an hour earlier and arrive 2 hours later to allow for the extra cleaning during Covid. Aspects did clarify it should not be like this and arranged for the housekeeper to remove these items. However, the owner's tea coffee and sugar were still left by the kettle! A further annoyance was that in the welcome back the code given for access to the WiFi was incorrect. We were effectively deprived of access to this for two days. Aspects claimed that the WiFi details were with the arrival details and included with the key safe details, which they were not. The most serious thing was that the smoke alarm had been disconnected On inspection the battery had a best before date on November 2019. It is possible that it had been left disconnected for all the lets since 4 July, potentially putting the lives of all holidaymakers since then at risk. It also means that the safety audits carried out by the 'responsible person' must have been fraudulent. The house was not clean - there were cobwebs in the lounge window. It was also apparent that there was an ant infestation in the kitchen, about whcih previous guests had written in the visitors' book. Top floor 1980s bathroom needs to be ripped out and replaced with something contemporary.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We would like to say how sorry we are that you have not had a satisfactory experience at one of the properties that we market. Whilst the Wi-Fi was working throughout your stay, with the correct password accessible on the router; it was completely our error that the code had not been on your arrival information and incorrectly printed in the welcome folder, which would understandably cause some confusion. We are very sorry for this error. We would like to reassure you that a full clean of the property had taken place and looking through all of the correspondence during your stay and since, it was understood that the cleaning had been to the expected standard, but the issue was with the condiments having been left in the kitchen cupboards. We instruct owners to not leave condiments, so we were disappointed to hear that you had found these items. They were removed immediately, and the owner has been reminded to not provide these going forward. Had we also been aware of an ant infestation, we would have done everything we could to help with this at the time, so we are very sorry to now hear of this. Regarding your safety concerns with the fire alarm, it is the responsibility of the owner to maintain these and as you will be aware, this has all been followed up and appropriate action taken, so we cannot really comment any further on this other than to reassure you that from our side of things we have always ensured that we have a record of all the relevant legal safety documents from the property owners including gas safety, PAT testing, fire risk assessment and a 5 year electrical safety certificate. Once again, we are sorry for any confusion and disappointment caused on our part and sincerely thank you for bringing the other points to our attention, so that we could follow up with the property owner and their housekeeper. Vine Cottage is the perfect place to stay in Mousehole, far enough away from the road and pedestrian traffic, but close enough to take a glass of something nice and sit on the harbour wall and watch the world go by.

Pictures and description accurate. Good location for harbour. Back entrance great and space for washing and airing wetsuits. Well equipped kitchen and nice bedrooms. Great walk in shower in ensuite. Liked the seaside decor touches and books, games etc Having 3 keys very useful and key safe. Felt safe in the pandemic - shared access no problem. Aspects easy to book and very helpful. Parked at school- worked well. All in all loved the cottage and our stay in Mousehole- would definitely return...

Modern tasteful decor. Warm and inviting. I have recommended Vine Cottage to friends.

Nice cottage, good location close to harbour and car park.Make sure you take a torch with you if going out at night, the outside light isn't working and the steps are in total darkness and can be quite dangerous.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are so sorry to hear that the outside light wasn't working. We have passed this on to the property owners who were going to look into this and hope to get it back up and running for guests as soon as possible. Thank you for letting us know. Tanya Customer Services

We had a really nice time and the cottage was cosy and very well situated.

We had a brilliant week, especially as the weather was amazing. Vine Cottage was a good base in a great location. Not quite right for a family of 5 adults though and a bit tired in places.

We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your time exploring Mousehole and the beautiful surrounding areas, and thank you for taking the time to send in your comments. As with a lot of traditional fisherman's cottages, the layouts can be quite a bit quirkier and smaller than what we are used to with more modern buildings, but full of character and charm. We always try to show this as clearly as possible within our photos, and hope that we have managed that in this case. The living area has two 2-seater sofas and a window seat, and the kitchen has the table and chairs pictured, plus a couple of seats at the breakfast bar. The layout may not suit every party, but we are glad that it worked perfectly for your family. Thank you for informing us about the linen; we are sorry if any of this had looked a little tired. The housekeeper was notified of this and was checking through it all so that any new sets could be arranged with the owners, if required. For anyone that may be interested in this property and would like any further details on the property and its suitability; please do not hesitate to get in contact with us so that we can answer any questions you may have. Tanya, Customer Services

The lovely cottage is very close to the habour wall (only 10 meters), so you can sit there in the dawn drinking your beer :-)

The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. We parked in the harbour which was less than a minutes walk from the back door and only £3 for 24 hours. Very convenient for all Mousehole amenities and the bus into Penzance was regular if you don’t want to take the car. All rooms were well decorated and comfortable and we loved the shower in the en-suite. Kitchen had all amenities you could require for your stay and little courtyard was a sun trap for enjoying a glass of wine in the afternoon/early evening. We would go back to Mousehole and if we did we would stay in vine cottage again. It’s conveniently located for some beautiful beaches and towns. Loved the scones on arrival too

A lovely well kept house that really feels like a home. In a great location for harbour/parking and beach. Much better location than appears on the website! There was a small problem (that would not have affected our enjoyment of our stay) but Aspects staff were so helpful in fixing this and ensuring we had a great holiday. Thanks!

Great location for a lovely holiday in Mousehole. Aspects were fabulous in sorting out any issues that arose.

Cosy little cottage with in a stone's throw from the sea

Great property, lovely scones on arrival, which was a lovely touch. Nice laid out property with lovely decor. Coming back again next year!

An excellent base for a great holiday in a perfect village. Pleased we got the parking at the school.

Fabulous location in lovely Mousehole
