Holidays in Sennen

Sennen is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt areas of Cornwall, famous for its unique location and beauty. Sennen is one of Cornwall's most popular surf spots, and its rugged scenery and many coves provide the perfect place to explore on a self catering holiday.

Sennen is the most westerly parish in the UK, nestled between Cape Cornwall and Land's End. Part of the village; the mediaeval church of St. Sennen with its low granite tower, the school, and the First & Last Inn are at the top of the cliff; with some older cottages 300 feet below by the quay, along with the Old Success, a seventeenth-century inn.

Sennen Cove is still a fishing village and home of Sennen Lifeboat. Established in 1853, The Royal National Lifeboat Institution`s Sennen Cove Station is situated just one mile northeast of Land’s End.

If you want to spot a bit of wildlife during your holiday in Sennen, basking sharks and dolphins are a common sight off the coast of Sennen. Join our friends in the water and head to Sennen Cove which is renowned for its great surf and friendly atmosphere. Or take a drive to Gwenver Beach, less than a mile from Sennen Cove and watch the sunset - a truly spectacular sight. Read more about Sennen holidays and Gwenver beach on our blog post about Sandy beaches in West Cornwall.

Top tip

Spend the festive season in Sennen and take part in the annual Christmas day swim!

Surfing in Sennen

Sennen is a prime location for surfing in Cornwall. With swell coming in from the Atlantic, the surf is good all year round and can be better than the more crowded surfing destinations such as Newquay. With two surf schools based at Sennen you'll be in good hands when it comes to learning the ropes.

Beach & coastal walks

Take a walk along the coast from Land's End to the beautiful and hidden Nanjizel beach; one of Cornwall's most spectacular beaches. Porthcurno is also only a short drive away with its beautiful beaches and the breathtaking Minack Theatre, showing regular outdoor performances throughout the summer months.

South from Sennen Cove you can walk the coastal path to Land’s End. Just over a mile as the chough flies, but all along the south-west coastal path you must allow for the uphill stretches and twisty bits of headland which make the walks longer.

Whitesand Bay, white as the name suggests, stretches northwards from Sennen Cove to Gwynver beach. Gwynver is accessible from Whitesand at low tide; and down steep steps from Trevedra Cliff at high tide. On New Year’s Day it’s become a bit of a tradition for hardy folk to jump into the Whitesand waves for a swim. The south-west coastal footpath runs along Whitesand behind the dunes. No dogs are allowed on the beach between 15th May and the 30th September, between 10am and 6pm.

Although it feels tucked away in the far west, Sennen self catering holidays are perfect for exploring West Penwith.

Things to do near Sennen

Roundhouse & Capstan Gallery
A unique circular gallery and converted netloft. It was originally used for housing a winch to haul boats up from the beach. Visit www.round-house.co.uk for more info.

Longships Lighthouse
The iconic Longships Lighthouse sits on Carn Bras, the biggest in a ribbon of jagged rocks just offshore. It appears curiously tall when seen from the road approaching Land's End. Just for a moment Longships seems to have landed at the holiday complex but it's all an illusion of topography. The galleon and helicopter might be set in cement in Land’s End square but the lighthouse is exactly where it should be, a mile off shore.

Land’s End:
Sennen Church is about a mile from the Land’s End Visitor Centre, where you can find Land’s End Hotel & restaurant, First & Last House, shops, cafe, exhibitions. It is famed for the signpost, at which you can have your photograph taken as one arm says Land’ End and the other your home town. There are weekly firework displays, special events and family entertainment. The best approach to the complex is via the coastal path, the sea views are magnificent. On an overcast day the visitor centre has much to occupy children.

Apple Tree Café, Trevescan
When self catering in Sennen, a place not to be missed is The Apple Tree Café at Trevescan, a left turn just before Land’s End. Home of Nick’s delicious home-made bread. It’s family friendly, amazing cakes, tea garden. A perfect place to meet before walking or after walking or probably before and after.

From the Apple Tree Cafe, you can walk into Land’s End; you can walk across the fields to the coastal path. All you need is the O/S Pathfinder or O/S Explorer 7 (Land’s End, Penzance and St Ives). If you can find one, get a copy of a book called ‘West of HayleRiver’ by Gerald and Sylvia Priestland. It is brim-full of walks, pictures and information about places and legends across the whole of West Penwith.

Farmers' Market
Every Tuesday, Sennen holds its very own farmers' market, perfect for stocking up on local produce when staying in a self catering cottage. Find out more on our blog: The Best Farmers’ Markets in West Cornwall

Wow what a view! The property is in a fantastic position to sit and look out over Sennen Cove. We spent hours watching the surfers on the beautiful blue water. The house is very well presented and the beds and furniture are comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

A lovely cottage with great views over the Cove. Well positioned for walking and touring. Local pubs are ok.

Seagulls is lovely and has been very nicely refurbished and is full of quality equipment and furnishings and the view of sennen beach stunning we sat for hours in the conservatory watching the surfers it was wonderful

Seagulls has spectacular views over the sea, is incredibly comfortable and fabulously well placed to access Sennen Cove. We have stayed in the property over many years and could not recommend it enough.

Seagulls is a homely, spacious seaside house with fantastic views of Sennen Cove from all of the front windows. Two separate seating areas outside to enjoy those views too. We had a lovely time walking the coastal paths from the door and enjoyed returning to Seagulls to snuggle up in front of the logburner each evening. Would recommend the property.

The position of the property the views are out standing this is why its our second time at 'Seagulls' and soon to have a 3rd visit in September 2023

This was our third stay at Seagulls and once again we were not disappointed. The property is well positioned to provide excellent views across Sennen beach and the surrounding coastline. The accommodation is spacious and well equipped, beautifully presented and very clean. An excellent stay was enjoyed by all. Dave Chapman September 2022

We had a really lovely holiday.

Seagulls provided us with best of everything that defines a perfect Cornish holiday - sea, sand, sunshine, marine life, cozy surroundings, fantastic views. We enjoyed some fantastic family meals on the decking, given it was a reunion with family from across the continents, after 3 long years. The sunsets were spectacular, and seeing dolphins and porpoises from the property was spellbinding. It felt like we were cocooned in a lovely nest, cut off from the world, but able to rejoin it when we wanted. Thank you for a lovely stay, and a chance to make some new memories ??.

Another great stay at Seagulls; we love this house and we love Sennen! The location is just amazing; just seeing the view from the garden relaxes you totally! We have stayed at Seagulls many times over the years and we always find the house warm, friendly and very welcoming - its great for people watching from the conservatory or the garden, and great to just sit and chill and relax. Its a great house with everything you need for a holiday! We are always sad to leave Seagulls and Sennen but we will be back again next year; can't wait!

We had a wonderful holiday at seagulls, our 3rd visit over several years. Amazing views from inside and out. We spent many hours just sitting in the conservatory or on the patio or decking gazing at the panoramic views. Enjoyed walking to Lands End and around Cape Cornwall.Hope to come back again soon

Great location with fantastic views. Very comfortable ideal for families,

Staying at Seagulls was a joy. The views are breathtaking and the house itself is comfortable, spacious and family friendly. There is lovely artwork to enjoy, with many paintings of Cornwall on the walls, and a good supply of books and games provided. A welcome cream tea was much appreciated! Location is great and although a car would be needed to access most local attractions, the open-top bus comes into Sennen Cove and the route serves most of the major local towns. The beach at Sennen Cove is wonderful for surfing, and the nearby Cape Cornwall has amazing views and seals to enjoy. It is worth visiting the Minnack Theatre during your stay for a unique experience, and the coastal path is readily accessible if you wanted to walk to Lands End. We would definitely consider returning in the future.

Second year running staying at Seagulls and will definitely return next year. Says it all really. Just perfect, thank you!

Lovely location amazing views and nice house but just a shame the house was filthy needs a good clean

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are very sorry if the standard of cleanliness was not to the usual high level that you would have expected from the properties that we market; we can only apologise if any areas had been missed. It is certainly not the norm for this property, and we would have loved to have been able to rectify any concerns at the time of your stay. Having now received this feedback, we will follow up on this with the cleaner, so thank you for your feedback. Tanya, Customer Services

Loved our stay for the Christmas week, the Christmas tree was a nice touch (thank you). It’s a beautiful and friendly feeling house with all the home comforts thought of. Waking up early and watching the sea from the bedroom balcony was a particular highlight. Looking forward to returning!

Seagulls- Sennen Cove

We stayed for a fortnight in November and thought that everything about Seagulls was fabulous. The views were stunning and it is a wonderful place to stay. Looking forward to going back.

This is a wonderful place to stay. The views out across the whole of the bay are spectacular. The house is spacious and has great facilities. The master bedroom with its balcony and vista is particularly lovely. I would highly recommend (unless you have mobility issues…there are a good few stairs to get down to the property).

Seagulls is situated in a stunning location. The views are terrific and the house takes advantage of this with wonderful picture windows. It is possible to sit all day and watch the coming and goings on the beach and the sea changing colour. We were so lucky with the weather and had warm sunny days to enjoy this spot. There are fantastic walks just a step outside the front door. Lands End is an easy walk and Sennen Cove and the beach is also just a 10 minute walk, although it is a steep climb back. There are so many lovely places to visit nearby, especially if you like walking. Penzance is not too far away but there are also other more local shops.

The house itself is quite quirky but has plenty of space for everyone. The extra bathrooms definitely help. There was a good supply of logs for the log burner and I imagine this would be cosy in the winter. If you like peace and quiet with a great view- this is the house for you.

Seagulls is a lovely place with amazing views and one of the best holiday cottages we’ve stayed in. We would definitely stay there again if it was free!

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Seagulls and its a lovely house in a lovely location. Its wonderful to be able to look out at the sea and the Cove and watch all the comings and goings! The location is great as you can easily access the shops in the Cove itself or on the main road above Sennen. Sennen Cove is a beautiful place, perfect for relaxing and chilling out, and the outside seating area is perfect for both.

As everyone says the views from the house are amazing especially the sunsets. The house was very clean ,well equipped and comfortable beds. Sadly due to covid the Old success Inn wasn’t serving food outside and was fully booked in the restaurant for evening meals the whole week we were there, which was a shame. Overall Seagulls is a lovely base for exploring that part of Cornwall.

Wonderful place. Amazing views V comfortable beds with spotless white bed linen Spotless white towels Showers great Lovely run from house along cycle path to Lands End and down coast road to Sennen Cove

Seagulls is in a spectacular location with fantastic views across Sennen Cove. Comfortable and spacious accommodation which is well equipped and very clean.

We stopped at Mousehole for a sandwich, bought some cards and then drove on to Sennen Cove. Already we felt like we were on holiday but walking into the sitting room and conservatory was an amazing experience because the whole of the bay was visible before our eyes - a panorama - what seemed like miles of smooth sand lapped by mischievous waves teasing visitors. Dogs ran frantically to and fro down to the sea and back again to their owners.

Early in the morning, I watched a lone fisherman in his little dinghy sail out over the bay. Nothing but an expanse of blue and him in it. I wondered where he had set off from? Where he would go? What he would catch? So I watched in the binoculars until he sailed out of view. I paused a while and ate my breakfast. Later, I saw the bus from St Just trundling down the hill bringing in early visitors to the town. Cars arrived spilling out children with excited parents scampering down to the beach. Vans brought bread, milk and sustenance. The new day was awakening. The sun would be rising. New days to be explored. New adventures to be had. Go to Sennen Cove, find a new horizon and explore it for yourself!

The next day we explored further afield and went to Porthcurno. Amazing beach! Lots of people with surfboards there because the sea is so renowned for good surf and of course the fluffy white sand. Beware it is a long walk down but you've got to go there and you can pull yourself back up the cliffs using the rope! The sea is so blue and if you turn around you can see the tiny play house which was once used by Rowena Cade's (Minack Theatre creator) nieces and nephews built into the cliffs! Don't forget to go to St Just as it looks just like a mining village which has been there since Poldark. It seems to have stood still in time!

If you're still fascinated by Cornwall pick up a book by Daphne du Maurier - either Rebecca, Jamaica Inn or Frenchman's Creek, you'll love it!

Lovely property with spectacular views. Comfortable with everything you need for a perfect stay. Thank you

Beautiful location. Perfect holiday house with parking, walking distance to beach if reasonably fit and amazing views from inside and out. We would come back every year if it was available. Comfortable accommodation, feels spacious, large bedrooms and multiple bathrooms make for family harmony. I never book anywhere without a good kitchen, dishwasher, strong WiFi and parking. This had all of it plus that view.

A lovely comfortable home, spectacular views. Be prepeared for a steep walk down and back to Sennen Cove, but great exercise! If taking 3 cars, the 3rd car needs to be small.

We will be back

This property has amazing views into the beautiful Sennen Cove and has a number of quirky characteristics you cannot help but fall in love with. Will return again for my annual fix of this wonderful place. Definitely worth booking!

Lovely house, well located with brilliant views of the beach and bay, yet away from the bustle. The house is very well equipped and very comfortable. An excellent base to chill out!!

Excellent location with fabulous views. Looking forward to being back here next summer.

You will have to travel a long way to find a better view than that from Seagulls- it’s truly breathtaking. If you’re lucky enough to catch a sunset on a clear evening you will be in for a treat!

Great homely feeling house with some great walks on your doorstep.

Nicely laid properties, with great views and easy access to the Coastal Path and cycle network. Recommended

Fantastic holiday house, great location for coastal walks, surfing and enjoying a peaceful break. The views from the house are amazing. The house is equipped to a high standard. I would highly recommend and love to return one day!

Fantastic house with an incredible view of one of the best places in Cornwall. We thoroughly enjoyed our week.

A well thought out property with plenty of space to relax, even on rainy days there is always something to watch in the cove from the conservatory. Even the steps up and down to the car park are evenly spaced and shouldn't put you off staying here. The view from the dining table is just like a framed picture of the cove. Well worth a stay.

Highly recommend to stay fantastic location and views comfortable house to stay in, enjoyed the walk back from the pub

Great and lovely house, position and view to go back for! This is an excellent holiday home, the owners have thought hard about the needs of visitors and we all agree the only problem is the week passed to quickly.

GREAT STAY IN PERFECT COTTAGE IN FABULOUS LOCATION

Fabulous views.

Lovely to have so many books & games in the house. Very well equipped

A well equippped cottage overlooking breathtaking views. Very well maintained and excellent service as always from aspects. Our comfort and experience were their ultimate goal. Thanks again

We enjoyed our time at Seagulls very much! Very comfortable and spacious for the eight of us. Having the extra bathrooms was a big help! The views are just amazing!

Beautiful views, great facilities and would definitely rent this property again.

Lovely house with fantastic views and house fully equipped .

Great spot with fabulous views of the bay, an amazing balcony to watch the waves from. Great outside seating areas to rest the surf weary bones. Outside shower was really handy to rinse wetsuits off. A great spot to stay, would love to come back again.

Very well equipped property with stunning views over Sennen Cove. Spacious master suite with balcony and more great views. The property is very convenient for walking to the beach and the steep walk back is good exercise. In fine weather the decked terrace is a good place for sunbathing and barbecues and in bad weather the conservatory is a lovely spot to sit with a drink and to take in the sea views.

We had a wonderful stay in a fantastic location. As an extended family group it was great to have so many bathrooms. Would definitely come back!

This is a brilliant house. The views are just fantastic and ever changing even when the weather is not so great. The house is well equipped and comfortable (full Sky and Wi-Fi if you need it). Location is fantastic and the walk up the hill will keep you fit when walking off your breakfast at the Little Bo Cafe, a few drinks or a meal at the Old Success, even the restaurant on the beach Ben Tunnicliffe, despite some mixed trip advisor reviews was perfectly acceptable. But this holiday was all about the house and those views. Even now looking at my phone pictures I realise how perfect this was especially the views from the upstairs balcony. Such a joy to be in such a wonderful house we only wished we could have stayed longer !! We are certain to return.
