The nearest garden is Trewidden lovely to walk round in the Spring and Summer great cafe which is open all year round and do a roast dinner on a Sunday. January 2024

The position of this property is perfect, with a fantastic view over the bay to St Michael's Mount. I know there isn't any parking but you can usually find somewhere in the nearby streets and you can pull up outside of the house to unload and load up the car. We walked most days along the front for a coffee at the Jubilee pool (menu for food not good) We discovered a gem of a cafe at Trewidden garden, you can use the cafe without paying to go in the garden (though the garden is wonderful and worth a visit) we went for Sunday roast twice was so good, advise booking. The Italian round the corner do lovely pizzas. I could wax lyrical for hours about Cornwall been coming for 50 years it's just the most wonderful place and l think Newlyn is our favourite.

Holidays in Newlyn

Newlyn is a traditional Cornish fishing town which is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK. Stroll along the pretty harbourside and you’ll be able to spot beam trawlers, long liners, crabbers and small open boats used for hand-lining.

Experience the buzz of a thriving, hardworking harbour and taste the freshest fish on offer in Cornwall. The harbour is overlooked by white washed and granite Cornish fisherman’s cottages interwoven by narrow lanes and cobbled alleys often too steep or narrow for a car so all you will find is the odd cat basking in the sunshine. Enjoy the buzz of Newlyn’s working harbour, visit Newlyn Art Gallery or the wonderful established gardens with breath-taking views across to the iconic Penzance Jubilee Pool.

Locally caught seafood can be purchased from the bustling fish market, fishmongers or at one of the fantastic harbourside eateries. Escape to Newlyn for a self catering holiday in a peaceful setting, within easy reach of Mousehole, Penzance and St Michael’s Mount.

Top tip

Be sure to treat yourself to a Jelberts ice cream when staying in Newlyn!

Newlyn art community

The Newlyn School is a group of artists who came to live and work in Newlyn or the surrounding area between the 1880s and the early twentieth century. They painted en plein air (in the open air). Perhaps best known are: Stanhope Forbes, Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Harold Knight, Laura Knight, Harold Harvey. There is much documentation about the school at Penlee House.

The collection is kept at Penlee House rather than the Newlyn Gallery because Newlyn Gallery maintains a tradition of showing modern art.

Newlyn Gallery & Exchange Gallery in Penzance Town Centre host the best of conceptual and modern art. Together with St. Ives Tate and Penlee House the four galleries host major national and international exhibitions, as well as showing the work of the Newlyn School of Art, who offer a wide range of high quality art courses run by some of the most exciting artists in the region. Read more about art classes at Newlyn school of art on our blog. Thus the area which has inspired so many artists celebrates its artistic heritage while maintaining strong links with the art world of today.

Lovely property. Nice to enjoy a sea view when it's raining and you don't want to go out.

Fantastic house, great position. This property has everything you could possibly want for a great holiday. The lack of parking could put some people off but we were able to pull up outside the property to unload and load up the car and then we always found a parking spot in the surrounding streets. Definitely booking for next year !!!

Great location and a lovely house. Would thoroughly recommend but be prepared to pay for parking.

We had a great time. Most of life's little luxuries are within a short stroll, there's great fish shops nearby, although one or two of the restaurants charge rather cheeky prices.Newlyn even has a cinema! Best of all, it's a proper community, not just a collection of holiday lets.

Cawdor House was a great place to stay, it was further from the railway station than I remembered. I cannot fault anything except the freezer in the cellar, and no designated parking, but we knew about that and parked in a side street. You cannot expect everything to be perfect and we have rebooked for next year.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you liked this lovely property, so much so that we will be welcoming you back again next year :-) The owners try to make sure that their guests have everything that they should need for a comfortable stay and have tried to make the best use of the space there by including a chest freezer in the basement, instead of using valuable space in the kitchen. We try to make this clear in the website description so that guests will be able to make an informed decision as to whether this will be suitable for them, so we hope that this was what you had expected. It is very common in this area for the traditional properties to not have allocated parking, but there are plenty of options nearby, which the team are always happy to talk through before booking. Though it sounds like you found this easily enough. Thanks for your comments, and we hope to see you back here soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Our second stay at this lovely property - will book again !

Overall a lovely place to stay with the only drawback being that car parking can be a problem.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your feedback. Cawdor House is such a great property in an amazing location, so we are glad to hear that you liked it. Lack of parking at the property is not something that is specific to just Cawdor House, it is something that is at a premium in many of the historic towns and villages here in Cornwall. Having kept a lot of their traditional charm, the roads and cottages were just not designed with cars in mind at the time but is part of what gives these towns and villages such character. Cawdor House benefits from being a stones throw from a pay and display car park and unlike many other areas, there is often free parking to be found in nearby residential roads. We are happy to provide further information on parking options, and it is always worth looking into parking availability beforehand on the local council website, particularly for peak weeks. Thanks for your comments, and we hope to see you back here soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Brilliant place to stay. Perfectly situated, great views. Stylish decor. Will definitely be back

Fantastic stay. We didn’t want to leave

Probably the cleanest house in Cornwall. Great view. Excellent bathroom and kitchen. Recommended.

I should write a poor review so too many people don't try and book this property but I can't. We've been there several times and have always thoroughly enjoyed our stay

This property is fabulas location, location location 5 star. The small village is walking distance to Penzance, however newlyn has some nice local bars and restaurants. Even during this difficult time of covid 19, we ate out every evening sometimes during day. Every place we ate was beautiful. Seafood restaurants amazing. Views were breathe taking walking or just looking out if window. You can drive to lots of other picturesque views. Property fantastic. We will be back and have already recommended to our friends and family. We live 8 hours away by car, worth the drive just fabulous.

Cawdor House is in a lovely location overlooking the sea at Newlyn, it has everything a family needs for a brilliant stay. We liked the location, it was easy access to the area for sightseeing. An easy walk into Penzance or Mousehole with plenty of eating places in both locations. We were lucky with the weather for September. We love photography and could not have been in a better place, we will come back again.

Cawdor House is a truly wonderful place to spend a holiday, well maintained, very comfortable and in a perfect location. It has everything you could need for a perfect holiday, so good that we booked again for next year within days of arriving. Highly recommended.

Delightfully comfortable house for our family of four. The location couldn’t be any better either right next to the beach, near a playground and very close to plenty of great eateries. We’ll be back!

We have thoroughly enjoyed all our holidays with Aspect holidays. All their properties are of an excellent standard and the service they offer leaves nothing to be desired

We enjoyed our stay at Cawdor House. It is well placed for exploring Newlyn which is a lovely village with a bustling harbour, good pubs and a handy Co-op nearby. We loved exploring the promenade and Penzance and it’s an easy walk to the iconic Lido. Bus links are good if you come without a car. Having the washing machine, freezer and access to the backyard through the cellar may not suit you if you are a bit older.

Great place to stay, close to everything in the town. Just a stones throw from the very active fishing harbour which is a joy to observe in the evenings. Excellent selection of fishmongers, very good cheese shop and a shop selling freshly made Cornish ice cream on a daily basis. The views from this cottage are a delight. Will definitely visit again.

Lovely well equipped property with fantastic views of the bay from the lounge and bedroom bay windows.

Lovely view and nice to hear the sea in the morning. Brilliant sunsets.

Great house in a wonderful position, amazing views over Mounts Bay

Superb location, great views, plenty of space.

Great location and good base.

Fantastic location but needs a bit of general maintenance

** Cawdor House changed ownership mid-2018 and the new owners have undertaken a considerable amount of maintenance and improvements over the years, including the most recent full refurbishment of the bathroom in 2021. The owners will continue to monitor feedback and listen to guest's suggestions, with the aim that their guests will always see improvements if they return

Ein gemütlich eingerichtetes Haus an der Strandpromenade in Newlyn. Wir fühlten uns sehr wohl dort. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Bushaltestelle in nächster Nähe.
