We loved our stay at Castle Cottage. It was our first stay in Port Isaac and the cottage could not have been better located. There are steep hills to climb pretty much anywhere you go in Port Isaac but as the cottage was less than 3 minutes from the harbour we couldn't have been better served. I'd also advise a trip to FEE's where you can get the most delicious coffee and cinnamon buns!

Holidays in Port Isaac

Port Isaac is a picturesque fishing village on the North coast of Cornwall, made famous by the popular TV series Doc Martin. With Padstow and Tintagel just a short drive away, you're well placed to explore the surrounding area, and with fine dining on the doorstep, Port Isaac is perfect for a self-catering holiday.

Situated in a National Landscape (formerly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), it’s clear why so many people have fallen in love with this traditional fishing village. Steeped in history, the harbour and many of the cottages date back centuries, with little unchanged by time. Today, visitors travel from afar to experience the quaint village with winding streets and narrow alleyways. Tucked into the rugged coastline, the harbour has always played a key role in the community, with fishermen still landing crabs and lobsters daily.

Did you know...

Port Isaac is home to one of the narrowest alleyways in Britain, named Squeezy Belly Alley.

Things to do in Port Isaac

Holidays in Port Isaac are all about the stunning scenery, right on the doorstep. Whether you choose to explore by foot, bike, car, or boat, this stretch of coastline certainly won't disappoint. Hit the Camel Trail for a cycle ride to remember, take a fishing trip and catch your own supper, or if that seems a bit too energetic, a dolphin-spotting trip can be just the ticket! What our guests say...

We know how important honest reviews are when it comes to booking your holiday. To help you choose the right property for you, we publish all reviews left by guests who have stayed here in the past, with the few exceptions stated in our Review Guidelines. Please bear in mind that some facilities referred to by past guests in reviews can be removed or changed at any time.

A nice period property located at the heart of port Isaac. However, be warned that the ceilings are low (I am 6’1” tall and found myself banging my head on the low ceilings beams). There is also no nearby parking, the nearest car park is the one on New Road which costs approximately £25 for a week. Unfortunately, the walk to the car park from the village is quite strenuous (depending on your levels of fitness) given the steep gradient of the roads in and out of Port Isaac. Trying to get back into the car park during the day can be a nightmare given the number of tourists visiting in the peak season so be prepared to arrive back in the village in the evening. The two bathrooms (one with a shower is a wet room) are quite bijou and takes some adjusting to when using them. There is hardly any mobile signal and therefore 4G let alone 5G internet coverage, so the WI-FI in the cottage is very much appreciated, especially given its strong signal.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your stay at Castle Cottage. Many of the traditional cottages in Cornwall retain their character and are often quirkier in terms of layout, with staircases steeper than more modern buildings and lower ceiling heights; so we agree it can be an important consideration for some guests when booking a property like this. Parking is unfortunately at a bit of a premium in Port Isaac, being a traditional fishing village, it was not designed with cars in mind at the time but is part of what gives it such a charming appeal. Whilst the New Road Car Park is a 10-minute walk from the property, we hope that you agree it is well worth the journey when you arrive to the property to find its proximity to the stunning harbour. We are glad to hear that you made good use of Wi-Fi, unfortunately mobile signal can be quite poor in many areas in Cornwall and varies from provider to provider, so a strong Wi-Fi signal is a bonus! Thanks again for your review, we hope you had pleasant stay. Lucy, Customer Services

A lovely cottage in an excellent location but note access is a struggle for loading and unloading but you can park on Rose Hill to unload and Fore Street to load.

Very good position, clean ,comfy beds, nearly everything you need. Spacious enough for 4 people

Had a wonderful time at Castle Cottage, Aspects holidays as always an excellent company to book with. Beautiful location, quaint cottage which was well equipped. We would definitely recommend to friends and family

Lovely cottage right in the centre of Port Isaac just a few steps from the main street. Open the windows and you can hear the lulling sound of the sea. Port Isaac is as charming as you can see in Doc Martin. We were lucky that filming for the last season were taking place. Also, you can be on the coast path in a few minutes. Do realise that you can’t park your car near the cottage and to walk to the long stay car park you have to walk steep hills.

Castle Cottage is in the perfect location next to the harbour in Port Isaac, the cottage itself is very cosy and has everything you could need for your holiday. There isn’t any parking in the village but the main car park is only a 10-15 minutes walk and if you follow the coastal path it isnt a very steep route. The only small issue we had was the hot water seemed to run out, we contacted Aspect Holidays and the owner contacted us directly and was able to sort the problem out remotely. Overall we cannot wait to visit Castle Cottage again in the future.

We are sorry that this issue with the hot water occurred, but glad that it was quickly sorted out for you and that you enjoyed your time at Castle Cottage. It is a beautiful part of the country there. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back here again one day. Tanya, Customer Services

Lovely cottage in an ideal position to explore Port Issac without being too close to the many tourists. Do be prepared for some steep hills as there is no flat route from the car park to the cottage.

Absolutely beautiful cottage in an ideal location, you can't ask for more. Just park your car in one of the car parks and leave it there all week, you won't need it.

Fantastic stay in castle cottage in port Isaac! Perfect location and beautifully decorated. All home comforts provided. It is situated on a steep hill and it’s difficult to park close to unload luggage but it’s a very small price to pay for such a lovely cottage. Beautiful views from the top windows. Only downside was no outside seating but the port is so close you can make the most of summer evenings by the port which is about a minutes walk! Will def like to stay again!

Excellent cottage and service. Very good location and we had a great holiday.

Great cottage in the heart of Port Isaac tucked away a little so you don't have other tourists peering in the windows. The access to the cottage is quite steep but don't be put off as we travelled with an older relative who although was a little worried at first managed quite well.

Lovely cottage, well equipped and very comfortable with nice furnishings. Very close to shops and restaurants. No parking space and car park is a few minutes walk away so can be tricky to unload/load luggage. That apart had a lovely stay in a beautiful cottage.

Castle cottage is a lovely place to stay right in the centre of town. Fabulous views from the top of the house. Great location and well equipped and maintained. Space is suitable for a couple or small family. I took my teenage son, so the internet connection was vital and happily was excellent throughout our weekend stay!

An ideal location in Port Isaac. Unlike some properties that were located right on the main street which can get quite busy with tourists this was set back so nice and quiet. Its worth noting that you can't take cars into the village so be prepared to walk a good mile from your car to accommodation. Some of it is quite up hill if you park in the main car park. We were fine but if you have mobility challenges it will be tough.

Thank you very much for your review. We were delighted to see how much you liked the more peaceful location of Castle Cottage; it is nice to be within walking distance of the harbour but away from the hustle and bustle. Whilst the car parking facilities maybe a fair walk from the property, we hope that you agree it is well worth the stroll when you arrive to the property and the lack of cars within the village helps to provide a special experience when walking around. Thanks again for your feedback, we hope to see you again soon! Ben, Customer Services

What a gem of a cottage. Stones throw away from the sea and a pub was perfect. Gorgeous bedding and comfortable bed. The views from the top bedroom was stunning and we often sat in the morning on the large stools with a coffee or a glass of wine at night to listen to the waves. Truly wonderful holiday.

We had a lovely relaxed break in Port Isaac and Castle Cottage. It was great being so close to the village heart, but also to step back in to your own space away from the crowds when you wanted.

We are not new visitors to Cornwall ( over fifty years!) However, this was our first stay in Port Isaac and it did not disappoint. Castle Cottage offers an excellent location; The Golden Lion is literally at the end if the path,as are the numerous gift shops and cafes. As with all quaint Cornish harbour villages be prepared for some steep climbs!

Typical Cornwall. Whats not to like. Enjoy.

Lovely place to stay, so near centre of Port Isaac. Very cosy and well furnished, loft studio ideal for someone who wants their own space. Would recommend you try and park nearby just for a few minutes to offload and load your luggage etc as very steep climb up and down to car park.

Beautiful cottage, in a great location.

Quaint cottage in fantastic location in port issac

Our 3 stay at Castle Cottage and we enjoyed every minute. The cottage is so welcoming, clean and comfy. The views from the top bedroom are brilliant and we even spotted Doc Martin being filmed outside his house from the top window! The new laundry room is very useful and shower is fantastic! It really is home from home. We love it here!

Castle Cottage is lovely. It's well equipped, located right in the heart of Port Isaac and has some lovely views. 100m from the pub too!

A cosy, warm and well appointed cottage. We had a very comfortable stay. The cottage has a lovely ambience and we felt really at home. The centre of the village is a very short walk away, so handy for the local pubs and restaurants. Would highly recommend this cottage.

The cottage was beautifully furnished, equipt with everything and perfectly situated. We couldn't have asked for more. The service from Aspect was faultless. Very impressed.

A lovely cottage to stay in - and in a good location, ideal as a base for day trips to St.Ives, Boscastle and Port Gaverne is worth a visit too - the pub is cosy and has a great view.

Would recommend castle cottage as a wonderful comfortable stay in a beautiful location.

We had a fantastic second visit at Castle Cottage. The location of the property is so convenient and it’s great to find a cottage in Port Isaac which is dog friendly. The house has everything you could want and more! The twin bedroom ond the third floor is beautiful and what a view too! The house was clean and beautifully furnished. We look forwards to coming back in the near future!

A very comfortable stay at Castle Cottage. The cottage was warm and welcoming. The views from top floor bedroom were fabulous. Great location in the heart of the village. A most memorable New Years break, looking forward to returning in May.

Great location for the pub, cafes and restaurants, as well as the fishing beach. Fun character property with quirky features and a great sea view from the top floor.
